Automobiles Ettore Bugatti was a manufacturer of high-performance automobiles, originally founded in 1909 in Molsheim, Alsace, then part of Germany and now in France. It was established by the Italian-born industrial designer Ettore Bugatti. The company gained renown for its beautifully designed cars and numerous victories in racing. Notable Bugatti models include the Type 35 Grand Prix cars, the Type 41 "Royale," the Type 57 "Atlantic," and the Type 55 sports car. The passing of Ettore Bugatti in 1947 marked a significant setback for the brand. His son Jean's death in 1939 further compounded the issue, leaving no successor to lead the factory. Despite producing only around 8,000 cars, the company faced financial challenges. It released one final model in the 1950s before eventually being acquired in 1963 primarily for its aircraft parts business. In 1987, an Italian entrepreneur purchased the brand name and revived it as Bugatti Automobili S.p.A.
