Overview of the series
The 2021 JMC Vigus Pro is a pickup truck sold in Malaysia, assembled at the Tan Chong Motor Assemblies factory and distributed by Angka-Tan Motor Sdn Bhd. It is priced from RM 98,888, making it one of the more affordable pickup trucks.
Power system
The Vigus Pro tested shows poor acceleration performance. In the 0-100 km/h test, the nearly 2-ton truck takes about 15 seconds to reach 100 km/h. In comparison, the previous generation Isuzu D-Max 1.9 completes the sprint in just 12.7 seconds. Despite being equipped with ventilated disc brakes, the braking performance is not very noticeable.
Cons - Slow acceleration
The Vigus Pro tested shows poor acceleration performance. In the 0-100 km/h test, the nearly 2-ton truck takes about 15 seconds to reach 100 km/h. Cons - Cheap feel
The interior is filled with hard plastics, giving it a cheap feel, reminiscent of a car from 25 years ago like the Perodua Kancil. The gaps between panels are large, surface assembly is uneven, and there are issues like misspelled words. However, these may not be major concerns for traders and farmers who view the truck primarily as a work vehicle.
Cons - Poor ergonomics
The electronic shifter and two-spoke steering wheel are somewhat unique, but the steering wheel is large and cumbersome, making it less responsive. The driver's seat lacks height adjustment, and the handbrake position is not very convenient for shorter drivers or those with smaller limbs.
Pros - Unique appearance
The JMC Vigus Pro has a stylish appearance, resembling an SUV with a forward-leaning stance inspired by a tiger pouncing, and it doesn't feature the usual plastic cladding.
Pros - Surprise features
Priced under RM 100k, the Vigus Pro comes equipped with automatic (halogen) headlights, rain-sensing wipers, full-vehicle automatic windows, front and rear ventilated disc brakes, a reversing camera, and front and rear parking sensors. The overseas version also offers electric seat adjustment for the driver and a front-facing camera. While it lacks some features (no Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, only two airbags), the overall equipment list is impressive.
