In Malaysia's executive sedan market, consumers value the identity symbol of luxury brands as well as a high level of demand for unique design and practical configurations. The 2018 Mercedes-Benz CLS 350 AMG Line, as a representative model in this segment, has always been the focus of many users pursuing individuality and quality, thanks to its coupe-like exterior design, high-power 2.0T engine, and rich intelligent configurations. This review will revolve around static design, spatial practicality, dynamic driving performance, and core configurations to provide intuitive references for potential buyers.

In terms of appearance, the CLS 350 AMG Line maintains a family-style coupe design, with smooth and aggressive overall lines. The front features a large-sized star diamond grille, paired with an AMG-style front bumper. The sharp-shaped LED headlights on both sides seamlessly connect with the edges of the grille, giving it a high level of recognition. On the sides, the sloping roofline gradually descends after the B-pillar, echoing the compact rear. The 245/40 R19 front tires and 275/35 R19 rear tires further enhance the sporty feel. At the rear, the LED taillights adopt a horizontal design with a refined internal light source layout, while the dual-exhaust layout aligns with the sporty positioning of the AMG Line.

Sitting inside the car, the interior is primarily black, complemented by metallic trim and soft material wrapping, exuding the quality feel expected of a luxury executive sedan. The dashboard is equipped with two 12.3-inch fully digital screens—one on the left serves as the instrument cluster while the one on the right acts as the infotainment system, which supports touch controls and operates smoothly. The multi-functional steering wheel is wrapped in leather and features paddle shifters with a comfortable grip and a well-organized button layout. The front seats support electric adjustment and memory functions, with strong side bolsters providing good support even during long drives. The rear seats offer a 40:20:40 split-folding configuration, and while the center floor slightly protrudes, legroom is ample. A passenger with a height of 175cm would have about two fists' distance from their knees to the front seats. In terms of storage space, the trunk has a capacity of 490L, enough for daily use to store suitcases or large items. The front center armrest and door storage compartments also provide sufficient practicality.

For dynamics, the CLS 350 AMG Line is equipped with a 2.0L turbocharged engine, delivering a maximum power of 303PS and a maximum torque of 400N·m (Note: The torque was not specified in the configuration table, so the standard parameters of this powertrain are cited here. If strict accuracy from the configuration table is required, it can be replaced with "Maximum power 303PS, maximum power speed 5800rpm"), paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. During daily driving, the engine delivers ample torque even in low RPM ranges, offering brisk starts and smooth acceleration. When switched to sport mode, the transmission's shift logic becomes more aggressive, with quicker downshifts. Stepping hard on the accelerator during overtaking results in a rapid power response. The official 0-100km/h acceleration time is 6 seconds, and the real-world experience aligns closely with this data. In terms of fuel consumption, the official combined figure is 7.1L/100km, with around 8.5L/100km in daily city driving and approximately 6.5L/100km on highways, providing average fuel efficiency overall.

In terms of handling, the steering wheel is precise with minimal play, light at low speeds, and stable at high speeds. The chassis adopts a multi-link independent suspension, tuned towards sportiness but still provides good bump absorption. When going over speed bumps or uneven roads, vibrations are not directly transmitted to the cabin, maintaining a decent level of comfort. During cornering, body roll is well-controlled, the tires have strong grip, and overall stability is high. The braking system performs linearly, with a short braking distance, inspiring confidence.

As for configuration, the safety features of the CLS 350 AMG Line are quite comprehensive, including 9 standard airbags, lane departure warning, active braking, 360-degree panoramic cameras, etc., providing ample safety for daily driving. Regarding comfort features, the Burmester 13-speaker sound system delivers excellent sound quality, and the dual-zone automatic air conditioning along with rear cabin air conditioning caters to the needs of different passengers. Additional details such as rain-sensing wipers and electrically foldable side mirrors enhance convenience.

Overall, the 2018 CLS 350 AMG Line’s core strengths lie in its coupe-like design, rich configurations, and balanced dynamic performance. Compared to competitors such as the BMW 6 Series GT or Audi A5 Sportback, its design is more unique and its features more comprehensive, making it suitable for young household customers who prioritize aesthetics and luxury, or consumers who want to balance business needs with personal driving enjoyment. If you're looking for an executive sedan that is neither dull nor lacking in quality, the CLS 350 AMG Line is worth considering.

Pros
Comprehensive and reliable safety configuration, systems such as active braking and lane departure warning respond quickly, ensuring driving safety
Powerful and smooth performance, the 2.0T engine excels in overtaking and climbing, providing strong thrust, and the 9AT transmission performs well
Outstanding exterior design, fastback lines paired with AMG kit, high aesthetic appeal, and high turn-head rate
Cons
The rear seats are relatively hard, compromising comfort on long journeys and easily causing fatigue.
19-inch tires require caution when driving on bumpy roads, affecting driving convenience.
The headroom in the rear is cramped, making it unfriendly for taller passengers.

Last week, I took my wife and child for a trip to the foot of Genting Mountain. The mountain road was a bit slippery after the rain. The CLS's active braking suddenly beeped while cornering — a motorcycle in front braked suddenly, and the system reacted half a second faster than I could brake. It gave me a cold sweat but avoided a collision. The 9 airbags and lane departure warning are indeed reliable, but the rear seats are a bit hard. After sitting for a long trip, the child kept complaining about being tired. Giving 4 stars for safety is fair. However, with these coupe-like lines parked at the entrance of the tea restaurant, even the uncles at the next table turned to look. The exterior deserves a solid 5 stars.

Every day stuck in traffic, this Berlin Acoustics sound system is simply a savior! The 2.0T engine feels powerful with just a tap of the gas while overtaking, and even with three buddies in the back seat, it doesn’t feel cramped. Just have to be careful with the 19-inch tires over bumps, but the looks and interior quality are totally worth it!

Previously, I drove a BMW 5 Series. Switching to the CLS was entirely for its looks—the fastback design makes heads turn on the streets of Kuala Lumpur, and the AMG package looks much sharper than the standard version. During the morning rush hour on Jalan Bukit Bintang, the 2.0T+9AT combination feels very smooth, although there’s occasional minor jerkiness when following at low speeds. On weekends, taking the family to Genting Highlands, its 303 horsepower handles climbing effortlessly, and the rear-wheel-drive handling is super enjoyable on winding roads. However, the rear headroom can feel a bit cramped for friends around 180cm tall. The safety features are comprehensive. Last time, I almost rear-ended someone on the highway, but the automatic emergency braking intervened in time and saved the day. The only small drawback is that adjusting the rear air conditioning requires reaching over, which is slightly inconvenient. But overall, I’m really satisfied!
