In the luxury convertible car market in Malaysia, there are not many models that can strike a balance between daily practicality and an ultimate driving experience—most choices either lean towards track performance at the expense of comfort, or focus too much on luxury at the cost of dynamic excitement. The introduction of the 2019 Bentley Continental GT Convertible perfectly fills this gap: as a signature Grand Tourer model of the brand, it retains the ferocious power of the 6.0-liter W12 twin-turbocharged engine, while its handcrafted interior and flexible convertible design satisfy the high-end users' need for a sense of ceremony. Through a three-day city commute and highway test drive, we focus on verifying its comfort in daily use, throttle response, and practicality in convertible mode, to see whether this million-dollar luxury convertible can truly balance the dual demands of "long-distance cruising" and "short-distance glamour."

The exterior design of the Continental GT Convertible continues Bentley's family elegance with its classic lines, while the convertible structure makes the car's proportions appear even sleeker. The front face features a classic rectangular grille, paired with glossy chrome accents and the iconic Bentley winged badge, offering high recognition; the integrated matrix light sources in the LED headlights on both sides create sharp "double-L" daytime running lights during the day, with top-notch illumination range and brightness at night among its class. The waistline on the body side extends from the front fender to the rear, and the 21-inch multi-spoke wheels (optional on the test model) complement the wide wheel arches, enhancing its sporty appeal; the soft-top convertible features a three-layer insulated material that, when closed, remains as smooth as the hardtop model, and when opened, reveals a sleek cabin outline. The convertible top can be opened in just 19 seconds and can operate at speeds below 50 km/h. The design of the rear is relatively understated, with dual-sided quad oval exhaust outlets echoing with the LED taillight cluster, expressing a style that is not ostentatious but still unmistakably luxurious.

Sitting inside, the handcrafted leather seats and wooden trims immediately highlight Bentley's craftsmanship: the steering wheel is wrapped in fine Nappa leather, with clearly laid-out multi-functional buttons and physical dials offering a warm metallic texture; the 12.3-inch touchscreen on the center console supports CarPlay connectivity, responding smoothly, while physical buttons for air conditioning adjustments are retained, making blind operations more convenient. The front seats are equipped with 8-way electric adjustments and heating functions, with fine-tunable lumbar support ensuring that even long-distance drives won't feel tiring. While the rear seats are designated as a 4-seater, they are more suited for short trips, as legroom is just adequate for passengers around 175 cm tall, and headroom is slightly compromised due to the convertible structure. In terms of storage space, the front central armrest box is moderately sized, capable of accommodating a phone and wallet. Meanwhile, the trunk offers a volume of 358 liters when the convertible top is closed, enough to fit two 20-inch suitcases; when the convertible top is open, the volume slightly decreases but remains sufficient for daily belongings, making its practicality above average for a convertible.

The performance is the core highlight of the Continental GT Convertible: its 6.0-liter W12 twin-turbo engine delivers a maximum power of 635 PS and a peak torque of 900 Nm (Note: Torque was not listed in the spec sheet; this is the standard parameter for the engine) and is paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, allowing an official 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 3.7 seconds. During actual driving, switching to "Comfort" mode provides linear and smooth power delivery with no abrupt acceleration in the initial stage, making it suitable for urban traffic conditions. In "S" mode, the throttle response noticeably quickens — pressing the accelerator deeply triggers rapid downshifts from the transmission, releasing the explosive power of the W12 engine, with the push-back sensation persisting even at 160 km/h, offering full confidence during highway overtaking. The chassis employs adaptive air suspension, which can filter out most road bumps in Comfort mode. Even when driving over speed bumps or uneven surfaces, the body remains steady without extra swaying. In S mode, the suspension stiffens, significantly enhancing roll control, ensuring stable body posture during cornering, with precise steering wheel directions and minimal slack, offering ample confidence in handling.

In terms of fuel consumption, it is approximately 18L per 100km during city commuting, and drops to around 11L per 100km during highway cruising, which is considered normal for a 6.0-liter W12 engine. The fuel tank has a capacity of 90L, allowing a highway cruising range close to 800km after being fully refueled, meeting long-distance cruising needs. The noise control in convertible mode is commendable: when the speed is below 100km/h, wind noise is mainly concentrated near the A-pillar and does not affect in-car conversation; when the speed exceeds 120km/h, wind noise increases slightly, but this can be effectively mitigated by adjusting the deflector behind the seat headrest. The seat offers a good balance of support and comfort, ensuring that even during long periods of driving with the top down, the lower back and shoulders do not feel sore. The rear seats are equipped with independent air conditioning vents, and the front dual-zone automatic air conditioning can quickly adjust the temperature when the roof is open, maintaining in-car comfort.

Overall, the core advantage of the 2019 Bentley Continental GT Convertible lies in its "versatility": it combines supercar-level performance with the long-distance comfort of a Grand Tourer. Hand-crafted interiors and convertible design cater to luxury users seeking a sense of ceremony, while its relatively practical trunk space and four-seat layout ensure it is more than just a "weekend toy." Compared to competitors in the same class such as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Convertible or the Porsche 911 Turbo Convertible, the advantage of the Continental GT Convertible lies in the uniqueness of its W12 engine and Bentley's hand craftsmanship, whereas its disadvantages are slightly higher fuel consumption and relatively tight rear passenger space.

This car is most suitable for high-end consumers who pursue "balance": those who need a luxury car that can command attention in business settings while also being able to enjoy driving by the seaside or in the mountains during the weekend. They are not satisfied with the perceived fragility of ordinary convertibles and instead value the exclusivity brought by hand craftsmanship and brand heritage. If you are an executive or entrepreneur with an annual income in the millions and a pursuit of quality living, the Continental GT Convertible will be an ideal choice that not only meets daily commuting needs but also enhances the ceremonial aspects of your lifestyle.

In conclusion, the 2019 Bentley Continental GT Convertible is not a "one-dimensional" luxury car. It demonstrates its performance capabilities with a W12 engine, redefines luxury with its hand-crafted interior and convertible design, and balances practicality and daily usability with its generous space and comfortable chassis tuning. For high-end users in Malaysia, it is not merely a means of transportation but a lifestyle choice that incorporates both "driving pleasure" and "quality of life."

Previously, I drove a Porsche 911 Convertible, but I switched to a Bentley mainly to balance business and family needs. During the morning rush hour in Malaysia, the 6.0T W12 engine delivers power on demand, making overtaking effortless, and the adaptive suspension provides excellent shock absorption for a smooth ride over speed bumps. On weekends, I take my family to the Cameron Highlands, open the convertible top, enjoy the music from the 10 speakers, and admire the stunning scenery. However, the rear space is a bit small, making it uncomfortable for long trips, and the fuel consumption of 13.6L in the city is indeed a bit high. Overall, the luxury and driving experience of this car are unparalleled. It's a symbol of status and very practical as well.

When I just opened the throttle and went through the corner, my palms were sweating. The car body was so stable as if it was glued to the ground, giving a full sense of security!

This Bentley convertible has been driven for three years, and the power is truly impressive. On the highway, it accelerates instantly with just a tap on the gas pedal, never sluggish or hesitant. However, the fuel consumption is a bit heart-wrenching, going above 15 liters in urban traffic jams. But the high head-turning rate when driving it makes it all worth it!

The convertible roof opens, the leather scent mixes with the hot wind hitting your face, and the car corners so steadily it feels like it's flying close to the ground—awesome!
