In recent years, the demand in Malaysia's luxury sedan market has remained stable. High-end consumers not only value the heritage of a brand but also expect models to provide a unique driving experience. As a representative of the ultra-luxury sedan segment, the Bentley Mulsanne has always held a prominent position with its ultimate sense of luxury and customized services. As a flagship luxury sedan, the 2013 Bentley Mulsanne public continues the brand's classic design while also offering remarkable improvements in comfort and performance. Through this static experience and dynamic test drive, we aim to explore whether this car can meet high-end consumers' dual demands for luxury and performance.

From the exterior, the 2013 Mulsanne public maintains the classic design style of the Bentley family, with an overall look that is dignified and powerful. The front features the iconic rectangular grille, paired with a set of round headlights. The chrome strips inside the grille and the Bentley logo enhance its recognizability. The side profile of the car features sleek lines, with a long wheelbase that intuitively highlights its spacious interior. The door handles are designed to match the color of the body, paired with multi-spoke alloy wheels, giving the overall look a steady and majestic feel. At the rear, the rectangular tail lamp group complements the front design, while the dual exhaust pipes with chrome layout align with the flagship vehicle’s positioning and add a touch of sportiness. Regarding the lighting system, the front headlights are equipped with xenon light sources, offering sufficient illumination at night, while the taillights use LED light sources that provide high recognizability when lit.

Upon entering the car, a sense of luxury is instantly palpable in the interior. The center console features extensive use of wood veneer and leather upholstery, with meticulous craftsmanship and a comfortable touch. The dashboard layout is driver-focused, with neatly arranged function buttons for convenient operations. Regarding core configurations, it comes with a large touchscreen LCD that supports navigation, Bluetooth, and other functions. However, compared to newer vehicles, the system's smoothness and feature richness are somewhat lacking. The seats are made of leather, offering multi-way electric adjustment, heating, and ventilation functions, providing excellent wrapping and support. Even during long rides, passengers won’t feel fatigued. Additionally, the car is equipped with four-zone automatic climate control, a rear-seat independent multimedia control system, and other features that further enhance driving comfort and convenience.

In terms of dimensions, the 2013 Mulsanne public measures 5575mm in length, 2018mm in width, and 1521mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3266mm. These dimensions ensure that both front and rear row passengers have extremely spacious seating space, and even rear-seat passengers have plenty of room to cross their legs without feeling cramped. For storage, the trunk has a capacity of 443 liters, which is ample for daily luggage or items. Additionally, there are storage compartments and cup holders in the rear central armrest, making it convenient for passengers to store small items. The vehicle has well-distributed power outlets in both the front and rear rows to satisfy electronic device charging needs.

In terms of performance, the 2013 Mulsanne public is equipped with a 6.75L V8 turbocharged engine that produces a maximum power of 377kW (512Ps) and a peak torque of 1020N·m. Paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, the car provides a quick throttle response during acceleration, and despite its large body, it delivers an evident sense of thrust. The acceleration process is smooth and powerful. When overtaking, stepping harder on the accelerator results in smooth gear shifting with consistent and linear power output, allowing for easy overtaking maneuvers. Regarding driving modes, the car offers comfort and sport modes. The throttle response and gear shift logic adjust differently in each mode to cater to varying driving needs.

In terms of handling and chassis performance, the steering wheel is precise with minimal play and clear directionality. Even for a large vehicle, it doesn’t feel cumbersome to drive; the suspension system uses air suspension, which can automatically adjust its stiffness based on road conditions. When dealing with bumpy roads, the suspension effectively filters out vibrations, ensuring that passengers inside the car hardly feel any noticeable bumps, offering a good level of comfort. When cornering, the body roll is well-controlled, and the chassis shows a high level of stability, giving the driver sufficient confidence.

In terms of fuel efficiency, as a large-displacement luxury sedan, the fuel consumption performance of the 2013 Mulsanne public is average. During our comprehensive road tests, fuel consumption was about 15-17L per 100 kilometers. For vehicles in this class, this is considered normal. Regarding braking performance, the brake pedal travel is moderate, and the braking force output is linear. During emergency braking, the vehicle's posture remains stable, with no noticeable nosedive phenomenon, and the braking distance is within a reasonable range.

As for ride comfort, the noise control inside the vehicle is excellent. Even at high speeds, wind and tire noises are well suppressed and do not affect the conversation between passengers inside the car. The comfort of the seats has been mentioned previously; even during long rides, they do not cause fatigue. Additionally, the smooth gear shifts of the transmission enhance the driving and riding experience, with almost no perceptible shift jerkiness.

Overall, the key highlights of the 2013 Bentley Mulsanne public are its extreme luxury interior, spacious cabin, and powerful performance. Compared to similar models such as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7 Series, the Mulsanne public has more advantages in terms of luxury and customization, particularly in the use of materials and craftsmanship, which reflect Bentley's high-end positioning. However, in terms of smart technology features, it slightly lags behind newer models. This car is suitable for high-end consumers who prioritize luxurious quality and seek a comfortable driving and riding experience, particularly business professionals or families who often utilize the rear seats. Its spacious interior and abundant comfort features cater well to such needs.

All in all, while the 2013 Bentley Mulsanne public may fall short in terms of modern tech features compared to current new cars, it still excels in luxury, space, and performance. It is a flagship luxury sedan that can balance both business and family needs. For consumers seeking a classic luxury experience, this car is worth considering.

V8 engine idles quietly, with a composed push-back feeling under heavy acceleration that feels even steadier than the Panamera
Genuine leather seats are as comfortable as lazy sofas, and the interior is luxurious, refined, and textured

Lack of modern active braking and other safety features
The airbag warning light occasionally turns on by mistake

Previously drove the S-Class, but the aura of the Mulsanne is completely different—stuck in Jalan Bukit Bintang during Kuala Lumpur's morning rush hour, the V8 engine idles almost silently, and the leather seats feel like sinking into a lazy sofa at home, embodying a more "slow-paced" luxury compared to the S-Class. On weekends, taking the family for a highway trip to Penang, the composed pushback sensation when stepping on the gas is even more stable than a friend's Panamera. The car is heavy, but it doesn't float on turns. The only minor downside is finding a parking spot in the city, as the car is too long—last time it took me three rounds at the Pavilion Mall to find a super large parking spot. As for safety, it's Bentley after all, but it lacks the modern automatic braking system. Giving it a solid 4 stars is reasonable. Performance and interior are definitely full marks—this is the true "mobile palace."

The first time driving it through accumulated water on a rainy day, it felt as steady as gliding on flat ground, providing a full sense of security!

Last week, I took my family to Genting Highlands for an outing. Just as we started on the mountain road, we encountered a heavy downpour, but the car felt as steady as if it were glued to the road. The V8 engine provided instant power with every press of the pedal, making overtaking effortless. The genuine leather seats and wooden trim in the interior still feel refined to the touch. However, when the kids spilled their drinks in the back seat, I noticed that the airbag warning light occasionally flickered on by mistake. But with its exterior parked at the foot of the mountain, it still attracted quite a few onlookers taking photos, so I’d say it was worth it.

The first time driving on the street, the rearview mirror is full of gazes chasing after me. This aura was truly worth the wait!
