In recent years, the competition in Malaysia's compact SUV market has been fierce, with many brands leveraging hybrid technology and intelligent configurations to gain market share. The 2019 Geely Xingyue 350T, as an A-Segment model, highlights its 2.0L hybrid system, long-wheelbase space, and standard intelligent driving assistance across all configurations as its core selling points. This time, we conducted an actual test drive to evaluate whether its overall performance can meet the demands of local users.

From the exterior, the Xingyue 350T adopts a sporty design. The front features a large-size blacked-out grille paired with sharply styled LED headlights, offering a high level of recognition. The side profile has smooth lines, and the roof gently slopes down past the B-pillar, creating a coupe-style SUV look. The 18-inch multi-spoke wheels paired with 225/55 R18 tires give a steady visual impression. The rear design is simple, with through-type LED taillights that are striking when illuminated at night, and the dual exhaust layout at the lower part of the rear bumper further enhances its sporty feel. The lighting system comes standard with LED sources across all configurations, including headlights, daytime running lights, and taillights, balancing practicality and aesthetics effectively.

Sitting inside, the interior is dominated by a black color scheme with silver trim accents, creating a minimalist style. The dashboard is wrapped in soft-touch materials, which feel pleasant to the touch, while the lower area is covered in hard plastic, consistent with this class's positioning. The center screen is a 10.25-inch touchscreen with decent interface responsiveness, supporting Bluetooth, CarPlay, and CarLife connectivity, which is sufficient for daily use. The steering wheel is wrapped in multifunction leather, with cruise control controls on the left and multimedia controls on the right, making the operation intuitive. The seats are made of faux leather, with manually adjustable front seats. The seatbacks and cushions provide good support, ensuring comfort for long durations. In terms of configuration, the car comes standard with a panoramic sunroof, automatic air conditioning, keyless entry and start, and intelligent driving assistance systems, including lane change assist, lane departure warning, and automatic parking, which are advantageous features in the same segment.

In terms of vehicle dimensions, the Xingyue 350T measures 4605mm in length, 1878mm in width, and 1643mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2770mm, placing it at the upper end of the A-Segment range. During the actual seating experience, after adjusting the front seats to a comfortable position, the rear legroom still has a two-fist surplus, and the headroom has about one fist, offering ample space for passengers with a height of 175cm. For storage, the front door panels can hold two bottles of mineral water, the central armrest has decent depth, and the rear armrest includes two cup holders, which meets basic practicality needs. The trunk offers a standard capacity of 326L, and the rear seats support a split-folding design. When folded, the storage capacity expands, sufficient for everyday family storage needs.

Regarding performance, the Xingyue 350T is equipped with a 2.0L naturally aspirated engine paired with a 48V mild hybrid system. The engine delivers a maximum of 238PS horsepower and is matched with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. During actual driving, the mild hybrid system ensures smooth starts, with prompt power response and no noticeable jolts. During acceleration, the engine provides linear power output after 3000rpm. When overtaking and stepping firmly on the accelerator, the transmission downshifts quickly, and the power keeps up promptly. There are three driving modes: Eco, Standard, and Sport. In Sport mode, the throttle response is sharper, making it suitable for urban expressways or highway driving. As for fuel consumption, during our city road test, which included many congested sections, the actual fuel consumption was around 8.2L/100km, while on highways, it dropped to about 6.5L/100km, close to the official combined fuel consumption figure of 7.5L/100km, indicating an average performance overall.

In terms of handling and chassis, the Xingyue 350T uses a front MacPherson independent suspension + rear multi-link independent suspension, with a tuning bias towards comfort. During daily driving, the chassis does a good job of filtering out small bumps, and vibrations when passing over speed bumps are not too harsh, ensuring rear passenger comfort. The steering wheel has a moderate weight, steering is generally precise, and it fits the positioning of a family car. When cornering, the body tilt is kept within a reasonable range, without a noticeable sense of swaying, and the stability is good. In terms of braking, the brake pedal travel is moderate, with linear braking force release. During emergency braking, the body remains stable, which inspires confidence.

Regarding ride comfort, the noise control of the Xingyue 350T performs well, with minimal tire and wind noise during urban driving. However, wind noise becomes slightly more noticeable at high speeds but remains within an acceptable range. The seats provide good wrapping and support, and the rear seat angle is reasonable, making long trips less tiring. The air conditioning system cools efficiently, and the rear is equipped with independent air vents, making it convenient for summer use.

Overall, the core advantages of the 2019 Geely Xingyue 350T lie in the spaciousness brought by its long wheelbase, the standard intelligent driving assistance features across all models, and a smooth hybrid powertrain. Compared to competitors like the Toyota C-HR and Honda XR-V in the same class, the Xingyue 350T offers an advantage in terms of space and features, and its pricing is expected to be more affordable. This car is suitable for family users who value space and features. It can meet the needs of daily commuting as well as weekend family outings. If you are looking for a well-rounded compact SUV, the Xingyue 350T is worth considering.

As the owner of the 2019 Xingyue 350T, after driving it in Malaysia for three years, I truly feel it's more worth it than my previous old Honda City. The exterior fastback design is highly attention-grabbing, the interior has a lot of soft-touch materials, and the central control screen is very responsive, though the co-driver's storage compartment is a bit shallow, making me worry about the wallet sliding out. During the morning rush hour on Kuala Lumpur's Jalan Ampang, the 2.0T+DCT with 238 horsepower makes overtaking very smooth, and the vehicle stability system keeps it steady through corners. On weekends, driving on the winding roads to Genting Highlands, the multi-link suspension does a great job soaking up bumps, and the 7.5L fuel consumption during climbing doesn't hurt to see. The only minor downside is that the rear middle floor is a bit high, making it cramped for three people. But overall, the value for money is excellent — Chinese cars nowadays are really impressive!

Last Saturday, I took my wife and kids to the orchard at the foot of Genting Mountain to pick durians. Just as we turned onto the mountain road, we encountered a heavy rainstorm, and visibility instantly dropped to within five meters. When I slammed on the brakes, the car remained as steady as if nailed to the ground. The lane departure warning lights were flashing like crazy, firmly pulling the car back into the lane—this safety feature is truly not just for show. While the wipers were spinning furiously, I caught a glimpse of the streamlined taillights in the rearview mirror, glowing like two flames in the rain. I bought this car for its looks back then. After entering the orchard, my wife complained that the rear cup holder was too small to fit her thermos; the interior design does fall short a bit in this regard.

As the owner of the 2019 Geely Xingyue 350T, after driving it in Malaysia for almost four years, I really feel like I made the right choice! Previously, I drove a small Japanese car, and it always felt a bit unstable when overtaking trucks on the highway. After switching to the Xingyue with its 2.0T engine and DCT, it maneuvers effortlessly during Kuala Lumpur’s rush hour, and on weekends, it's extremely stable on the winding roads of Genting Highlands. The handling feels well above an A-class car, with minimal body roll around corners, and the acceleration is very responsive when overtaking. Performance-wise, I’d give it a perfect 5/5—absolutely no complaints! The coupe-style design is very eye-catching, but the rear design looks a bit too “aggressive,” and the community security guards often ask if it’s a modified car—minus 1 point for that. The safety features are comprehensive; for instance, once I was cut off on the Penang highway, and the lane departure warning system immediately alerted me. It gave me a fright, but thankfully nothing happened. However, the raised middle section in the rear row makes it cramped for three passengers, which is a minor drawback. Overall, for the road conditions in Malaysia, it’s perfectly suited for both daily family use and the occasional spirited drive. Its value for money is far superior to the Japanese cars in the same price range!
