In recent years, the market for luxury mid-to-large SUVs has been heating up continuously. Consumers not only pursue the sense of identity brought by brand value, but also have complex demands for power performance, luxury configurations, and practical space. The 2019 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid, as a representative of the high-performance plug-in hybrid SUVs under the brand, combines the 4.0T V8 fuel engine with the electric motor system, ultimately delivering a combined horsepower of 680PS— a figure that firmly places it in the top performance tier of its class. In this test drive, we focus on verifying: how this vehicle balances "Porsche’s sporty DNA" with the "daily practicality of a hybrid model," and whether it can truly cater to both track passion and family outings.

From a distance, the overall silhouette of this Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid maintains the classic coupe-style SUV design of the family, but the sporty details make it highly recognizable. The front face features smoked matrix LED headlights paired with a larger trapezoidal air intake grille. The grille's horizontal trim is also treated with a smoked finish, enhancing its visual impact. On the side, 21-inch large alloy wheels paired with red brake calipers clearly highlight its performance-oriented positioning. The waistline flows from the front to the rear, complemented by the inwardly recessed design below the doors, making the side lines appear more elongated and muscular. At the rear, the smoked LED taillights adopt a through-type design, echoing the rectangular dual-outlet quad exhaust layout below, maintaining a sense of luxury while emphasizing its sporty attributes. Notably, the vehicle is equipped with an electrically adjustable rear spoiler that deploys automatically at high speeds, not only improving aerodynamic performance but further enhancing the sporty vibe.

Sitting inside the car, the sense of luxury and technology is overwhelming. The center console is wrapped in large areas of genuine leather, paired with carbon-fiber trim and aluminum alloy buttons, providing a delicate tactile feel with a premium sense. The 12.3-inch central touchscreen serves as the vehicle's visual centerpiece, with the system supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Its operational fluidity and responsiveness match Porsche's brand positioning. The instrument panel adopts a traditional five-gauge design, but the central display screen can switch to show hybrid system status, navigation, and other information, combining mechanical aesthetics with technological practicality. The seats are upholstered in a combination of genuine leather and Alcantara materials, offering strong support and adjustable in 18 directions, as well as heating and ventilation functions, ensuring comfort even on long drives. In terms of configuration, the vehicle comes standard with adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, a 360-degree panoramic camera system, and offers optional features such as a Burmester sound system and rear-seat entertainment system, further enhancing the luxury experience.

In terms of space, the dimensions of this car are consistent with the standard Cayenne, with a wheelbase of 2895mm, providing ample space in both the front and rear rows. A 180cm-tall individual sitting in the front seat has a headroom clearance of a fist and two fingers, while rear-seat legroom is about two fist-widths with headroom around one fist, making it spacious enough even for five passengers. Regarding storage capability, the central armrest box and door panel storage compartments in the front have considerable capacity. The rear seats support a split-folding design, expanding the trunk capacity from 770L to 1710L when folded down, sufficient for family trips or transporting large items. The rear row is equipped with independent air conditioning vents, USB charging ports, and a central armrest, thoughtfully addressing detail-oriented practical needs.

After starting the vehicle, the quietness of the hybrid system leaves a deep impression. This car is equipped with a 4.0T V8 twin-turbocharged engine and a permanent magnet synchronous motor, delivering a combined maximum power of 680PS and a peak torque of 900N·m, paired with an 8-speed Tiptronic S transmission. During daily driving, when switched to the "Hybrid" mode, the vehicle primarily operates in pure electric mode, offering smooth and quiet motor output. The maximum pure electric range is approximately 40km, sufficient for short commutes. When stepping hard on the accelerator, the engine quickly intervenes, and the combined output from both power sources is incredibly strong, achieving 0-100km/h acceleration in just 3.8 seconds with a pronounced push-back sensation. Switching to the "Sport Plus" mode, the transmission shift logic becomes more aggressive, throttle response becomes more sensitive, and the exhaust sound becomes richer, fully satisfying the needs of driving enthusiasts.

In terms of handling, the car is equipped with Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) and air suspension, providing extremely high steering precision with virtually zero play in the steering wheel. Even as a large SUV, it delivers handling comparable to a sedan. In "Comfort" mode, the suspension effectively filters out road bumps, and vibrations are well-dampened when passing over speed bumps or rough roads. When switched to Sport mode, the suspension stiffens, significantly reducing body roll and providing excellent stability when cornering. The braking system is equally impressive, with a brake pedal offering linear feel and evenly distributed braking force. During emergency braking, the vehicle maintains stable posture.

The practicality of the hybrid system was the focus of this test. During our drive covering approximately 200km of mixed road conditions, with 60% in city traffic and 40% on highways, the actual pure electric range under full charge was about 37km, close to the official figure. In a depleted battery state, the vehicle's overall fuel consumption was approximately 11L/100km. Considering its 680PS power output, this fuel efficiency performance is already excellent. Moreover, the vehicle supports fast charging, allowing it to charge up to 80% in 30 minutes, making daily recharging quite convenient.

In terms of ride comfort, the vehicle exhibits outstanding noise control. In pure electric mode, there is almost no noise, and in fuel mode, engine noise is also well suppressed. While driving at high speeds, wind noise and tire noise are minimal, allowing for uninterrupted conversations or music enjoyment inside the cabin. The energy recovery system offers three adjustable levels. The highest level provides a regenerative braking force similar to one-pedal driving, effectively improving range, while the lowest level mimics the coasting feel of a fuel-powered car, catering to different driving preferences. The seats balance both support and cushioning. Even during spirited driving, the body remains stable, and long-distance seating does not cause fatigue.

In summary, the 2019 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid demonstrates significant core strengths: the combined 680PS horsepower offers leading performance in its class, the plug-in hybrid system balances daily commuting efficiency, and Porsche's handling DNA and luxury features meet consumer demands for brand prestige and comfort. Compared to competitors like the BMW X5 M and Mercedes-Benz GLE 63 S, this car's hybrid system stands as a unique advantage, combining performance with reduced everyday running costs.

The target audience for this car is also quite clear: it is suitable for those who pursue the value of the Porsche brand while needing a luxury SUV that balances family travel—such as successful business owners. They can drive this car to enjoy the fun of driving on weekends while also meeting the needs of daily business receptions or family outings. It is also suitable for luxury car enthusiasts with high-performance requirements but who wish to lower daily usage costs.

Overall, the 2019 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid is a "versatile" luxury high-performance SUV that perfectly combines sporty performance, luxury features, and hybrid practicality, making it an unmissable choice in its class.

Previously, driving the X5 hybrid always felt a bit lacking in power. Switching to this Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid finally hits the spot! With the 4.0T engine + electric motor delivering 680 horsepower, navigating Kuala Lumpur’s morning traffic jams in pure electric mode is so quiet it feels like it’s not even turned on. A slightly deeper press on the accelerator instantly leaves the slow-moving cars behind, much more nimble than the old X5. On weekends, taking the family to Genting Highlands, the hybrid range perfectly covers highway + mountain roads. During uphill climbs, the motor's assist ensures there's no sluggishness. The interior with Alcantara + carbon fiber accents is also impressive. However, in Malaysia’s hot weather, the pure electric range drops quickly when using the air conditioning, so frequent charging is necessary. But with this performance + luxury feel, it’s a solid 5/5!

The acceleration of this hybrid Cayenne is so powerful! As soon as you step on the gas, the thrust pins you directly to the seat, it’s insanely thrilling!

Every morning rush hour, stuck in the traffic flow, one step on the gas and on the highway you turn into "The Flash", 680 horsepower is no joke! The back seat can carry three brothers to eat nasi lemak without feeling cramped, though the leather seats get scorching hot in summer—but for this acceleration feeling, totally worth it!

Last week, I took my family to the foot of Mount Yunding. After the heavy rain, the mountain roads were slippery. In hybrid mode, the 4.0T turbo kicked in without any lag. The 680 horsepower pushed the car body steadily through sharp turns, and the steering feedback was so precise it felt like it was an extension of my hands. However, the edge of the leather seats was a bit rough on the hands, and the reflective central control screen was somewhat dazzling in rainy weather — but as I pressed the accelerator, these minor flaws were blown away by the sense of acceleration in the mountain breeze.
