2023 Porsche Cayenne E3 Review

The luxury mid-size SUV market has always been the focus of high-end consumers in Malaysia, requiring a balance of daily commuting comfort and convenience, along with brand prestige and driving quality. As one of the core models in this segment, the 2023 Porsche Cayenne E3 attracts many users seeking balanced performance with its 3.0T turbocharged engine output, standard intelligent safety features across the lineup, and Porsche's signature handling tuning. This test drive will focus on its static design, space practicality, and dynamic driving performance to see if this classic model remains competitive in the current market.
From the exterior perspective, the Cayenne E3 maintains the Porsche family’s hard-edge design language, presenting a look that is both sturdy and sporty. The front features a blackened front grille, paired with sharp LED headlights on both sides, ensuring high recognition; the side body’s waistline extends from the front fenders to the rear, combined with 21-inch large-size wheels to visually elongate the body proportions; the horizontally connected LED tail lights at the rear are a design highlight, creating a striking effect when lit, while the dual exhaust layout beneath the rear bumper reinforces its sporty attributes. In terms of lighting, the LED headlights support automatic activation and adaptive functionality, providing ample illumination coverage under practical usage conditions.
Inside the cabin, the interior continues Porsche’s simple and tech-oriented style, with the center console angled towards the driver for intuitive operation. Regarding materials, extensive use of soft leather and metal trims is employed, providing a fine texture where the hands naturally rest; the 12.6-inch curved digital instrument panel displays information clearly and can be customized to show navigation, power output, and other data; the 12.3-inch central touchscreen responds smoothly and supports CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, making daily operations convenient. In terms of features, the front seats come with 14-way electric adjustment and memory functions, offering good support and wrapping; the rear seats support a 40:20:40 split-folding design, operable via remote release buttons in the trunk—highly flexible. Space-wise, the 2895mm wheelbase ensures sufficient legroom for rear passengers; a passenger standing at 180cm tall sitting in the rear would still have a two-fist gap between their knees and the front seats. The trunk’s standard capacity is 772L, which can expand significantly by folding the rear seats down, meeting the needs of family trips or transporting large items. Additionally, the cabin’s storage design is well-thought-out, with the front and rear door panels’ storage compartments fitting large water bottles, and the central armrest box is sufficiently deep to store personal items.
For dynamic driving, the Cayenne E3 is powered by a 3.0T turbocharged six-cylinder engine, delivering a maximum horsepower of 353PS and peak torque of 500N·m, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and full-time all-wheel-drive system. In daily driving, the initial acceleration response is swift, with minimal lag when the turbo engages; switching to sport mode enhances throttle sensitivity, with the transmission adopting a more aggressive shift logic. During overtaking, pressing the accelerator delivers power on demand, achieving an official 0-100km/h acceleration time of 5.7 seconds, placing it in the mid-to-upper range among similarly classed models. In terms of handling, the steering is precise with minimal play; it feels light at low speeds and stable at high speeds, offering great confidence to the driver. The front and rear multi-link independent suspension is tuned on the firmer side but does not solely focus on sportiness, as it effectively absorbs small impacts over speed bumps or rough surfaces, keeping the body stable. When cornering, the body’s roll is well-controlled, and the addition of the all-wheel-drive system ensures adequate tire grip, with overall handling performance aligning with Porsche's brand reputation.
In terms of fuel consumption, we tested under mixed road conditions (60% city roads, 40% highways) and found the actual fuel consumption to be approximately 11.2L per 100 kilometers, which is not much different from the official figure of 10.8L. Considering the body weight and power output, this fuel performance is within an acceptable range. For braking performance, the front and rear ventilated disc brakes offer linear braking force, and the vehicle maintains stable body posture during emergency braking, without significant forward dive. Regarding driving comfort, cabin noise control is excellent, with minimal wind and tire noise at high speeds; the seat support ensures no fatigue during long drives, and the rear-row independent air-conditioning vents and USB ports enhance the comfort of rear passengers.
In terms of safety features, the Cayenne E3 comes standard with 7 airbags, lane change assist, lane departure warning, active braking, and other features. The 360-degree panoramic camera delivers high-definition images, allowing drivers to clearly see the surroundings when reversing or parking, which is friendly for new drivers. The vehicle also offers a warranty policy of 4 years with unlimited mileage, bringing additional assurance to consumers.
Overall, the core advantage of the 2023 Cayenne E3 lies in its well-rounded product strength: it not only offers Porsche’s signature driving dynamics but also provides the space and comfort of a family SUV. The standard intelligent safety features and technology-driven interior make it highly competitive among luxury SUVs in its segment. Compared with peers like the BMW X5 or Mercedes-Benz GLE, the Cayenne E3 stands out with its stronger sporty appeal while maintaining a comparable level of configuration.
This car is suitable for two types of consumers: firstly, middle-aged users who value driving pleasure but also need to cater to family use; and secondly, younger consumers who pursue the luxury brand image and love technology features. Whether it’s for daily commuting, weekend road trips, or long-distance highway driving, the Cayenne E3 handles it all very well. All in all, the 2023 Porsche Cayenne E3 is a “versatile” luxury mid-to-large SUV that continues to embody the brand’s essence while meeting diverse usage needs.
