The competition in the D-class luxury SUV market has become increasingly intense in recent years. Consumers not only seek the premium quality brought by the brand but also have higher requirements for performance and practicality. The 2024 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC43 4Matic+ is here to meet these demands. As a medium-sized SUV of the AMG family, it not only carries on Mercedes-Benz's luxurious genes but also balances performance and efficiency with its 2.0T hybrid system. The official 0-100km/h acceleration time of just 4.8 seconds directly hits the pain points of performance enthusiasts. This time, we conducted a comprehensive evaluation through a static experience and a dynamic test drive to see if it can find the optimal balance among luxury, performance, and practicality.

From a distance, the body posture of the AMG GLC43 appears more aggressive compared to the standard GLC. With a body length of 4792mm and a wheelbase of 2888mm, it retains the elegance of a medium-sized SUV, while its 2076mm width and 1603mm height enhance its sporty vibe. The front face highlights the AMG family-style vertical-bar grille, matched with sharp LED headlight clusters on both sides, ensuring high recognition; the aerodynamic kit at the lower part of the front bumper adopts a blacked-out treatment, further enhancing the sporty atmosphere. The side profile of the vehicle is sleek, with a waistline running from the fender through to the rear. The 21-inch multi-spoke wheels, paired with 265/40R21 tires at the front and 275/35R21 at the rear, offer a striking visual impact. At the rear, the quad-round exhaust setup—a signature AMG design—is prominent, with LED taillight clusters featuring a ring-shaped light structure for clear recognition when lit. The diffuser trim on the rear bumper echoes the design of the front face.

Opening the door, the interior retains Mercedes-Benz's familiar luxurious style. The center console features an 11.9-inch floating touchscreen, complemented by a fully digital instrument cluster and an HUD head-up display, fully emphasizing the tech-savvy atmosphere. In terms of materials, a large amount of soft-touch materials are used on the door panels and dashboard, paired with metal trims and piano lacquer panels, creating an outstanding sense of quality. The seat configuration is impressive: the front seats support electric adjustments (including 4-way lumbar support and driver memory function) and come with heating features, providing excellent wraparound support and comfort. The rear seats feature a 40:20:40 split-folding design, adjustable backrest angle, and legroom that is on par with the mainstream level in its class. A passenger with a height of 175cm would still have two fistfuls of knee room when seated in the rear. In terms of storage space, the trunk offers a standard capacity of 545L, which can be further expanded by folding down the rear seats. It is ample enough for everyday items like strollers or suitcases. The front and rear cupholders, door storage compartments, and other design details ensure practicality, and the front row is also equipped with a wireless charging pad.

The powertrain is a core highlight of the AMG GLC43. The 2.0T turbocharged engine paired with a 14PS electric motor forms a mild hybrid system, delivering a combined maximum power of 310kW (421PS) and a peak torque of 500N·m. It is matched to a 9-speed DCT transmission and a 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system. In normal mode, power output is smooth, and the motor's intervention during start-up makes throttle response more agile. Switching to the Sport+ mode, the throttle pedal becomes very sensitive; pressing it deeply provides a strong push-back feeling, with the transmission delivering quick gear shifts. The 0-100km/h acceleration time of 4.8 seconds does provide substantial driving enjoyment. During daily commuting, the engine keeps the RPM below 2000, and fuel consumption meets expectations. The official combined fuel consumption is 10.3L/100km, while our test showed approximately 12L/100km in urban conditions and about 9L/100km on highways.

In terms of handling, the AMG GLC43's performance exceeds expectations. The steering wheel is precise with minimal play, and in sport mode, the steering weight noticeably increases, providing a more solid sense of control; the chassis adopts front and rear multi-link independent suspension, with a firm but resilient tuning. It quickly filters out vibrations when passing speed bumps or bumpy roads, without a feeling of looseness. During high-speed cornering, body roll is well-controlled, and the four-wheel-drive system allocates power promptly to maintain vehicle stability. The braking system performs equally well, with front and rear ventilated disc brakes providing ample and linear braking force, keeping the car stable during emergency braking.

For driving comfort, the AMG GLC43 balances sportiness and comfort. During daily driving, noise control in the cabin is excellent, with tire noise and wind noise barely noticeable. The Burmester 15-speaker audio system delivers outstanding sound quality, further enhancing the driving experience. The comfort of the seats is commendable, making long journeys not fatiguing; the air conditioning system supports dual-zone automatic control, and the rear row is equipped with independent air vents, ensuring the cabin temperature is quickly adjustable.

Overall, the core strengths of the 2024 AMG GLC43 4Matic+ are prominent: Firstly, the AMG-tuned powertrain, with an acceleration performance of 4.8 seconds, ranks among the top in the D-segment luxury SUVs. Secondly, Mercedes-Benz's signature luxurious interiors and rich configurations, including the 11.9-inch central control screen, HUD, and Burmester audio system, all are standard equipment, offering a higher cost-performance ratio compared to the BMW X3 M40i or Audi SQ5. Thirdly, the practical space utilization meets the daily needs of family users.

This vehicle is suitable for two types of users: First, young people who pursue performance and luxurious quality, as they seek both the driving pleasure of AMG and the practicality for daily commuting. Second, family users who value brand and balanced features, as this vehicle is suitable for both business receptions and family outings. However, it is worth noting that the firm suspension tuning may feel a bit bumpy on unpaved roads, so users who place high demands on comfort may need to weigh this factor carefully.

All in all, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC43 4Matic+ is a "versatile" luxury performance SUV that perfectly combines Mercedes-Benz luxury, AMG performance, and the practicality of a midsize SUV. In the fiercely competitive market, it is undoubtedly a highly attractive choice.

As the owner of the 2024 AMG GLC43 and having driven it in Malaysia for three months, the experience is very "Malaysian-style"! Exterior gets a 5-star rating with no complaints — the 21-inch large rims paired with the AMG package turned countless heads under the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, looking way cooler than my previous C-Class. Interior gets a 4-star rating; the Burmester sound system is a lifesaver during traffic jams, but the brown interior easily gets stained with coconut milk marks and needs frequent cleaning. Safety is rated 4 stars and is adequate; the ACC and active braking once helped me avoid a suddenly lane-changing pickup truck in heavy rain on the North-South Highway, though the absence of rear side airbags is a slight concern when bringing the kid along. During the Jalan Ampang morning rush hour, the 48V mild hybrid provides very smooth starts, and the turbo intervention is not abrupt; on weekends driving to Genting Highlands, the 421 horsepower makes hill climbs feel like a breeze, and the 4MATIC+ is super stable. However, the fuel consumption at 12L/100km is higher than the official figure, perhaps because of my heavy foot? Overall, it’s worth the RM500,000 — other than the brown interior getting dirty easily, no complaints!

Today, I drove out in heavy rain, and surprisingly, the central control screen and ambient lights were completely unaffected. The interior texture is really impressive!

In the morning, when in a hurry, stepping on the gas for overtaking makes the car surge forward. On the highway, the ACC adaptive cruise control is reassuring for following traffic. With three people in the back row, it doesn't feel crowded, and the panoramic sunroof lets in some light, making it less stuffy. The Burmester sound system is nice for listening to music in traffic jams, but with the 21-inch tires, you have to drive slower over speed bumps.
