As the luxury electric vehicle market gradually shifts towards "practicality," models that can meet daily commuting needs without compromising performance genes have begun to become the new choice for high-end consumers—the 2024 Porsche Taycan 4 Cross Turismo is a representative in this niche. It is based on the practicality of a station wagon, retains Porsche's iconic driving quality, and addresses the range anxiety of pure electric travel with an official range of 613 km. In this test drive, we focused on verifying whether it can achieve a perfect balance between "performance," "comfort," and "practicality," providing the most direct reference for potential buyers.

In terms of appearance, the Taycan 4 Cross Turismo continues the family design language, but the station wagon silhouette makes it more approachable than the standard Taycan. The front face features matrix LED headlights paired with the iconic four-point daytime running lights, which have high recognition; the honeycomb-style air grille below the front bumper optimizes aerodynamics for the electric vehicle while retaining Porsche's sporty genes. The side profile is sleek, with a sloping design that extends from the A-pillar to the rear, making it less rigid than traditional station wagons. The 19-inch alloy wheels, paired with 225/55 R19 front tires and 245/45 R19 rear tires, ensure grip without being overly exaggerated. The LED full-width taillights at the rear complement the front design, and the small spoiler above the trunk hints at its performance potential. The minimum ground clearance of 146 mm is significantly higher than the standard Taycan, making it more capable of handling light off-road surfaces.

Sitting inside, the interior style of the Taycan 4 Cross Turismo is simple yet remains luxurious. The center console is wrapped with a large area of soft materials, combined with metal trims and piano lacquer panels, offering a delicate texture everywhere you touch. The 10.9-inch center touchscreen is the core of the interior, with a clear interface logic, fast response, and support for CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The fully digital instrument cluster displays information such as range, speed, and navigation, allowing drivers to glance at critical data easily while driving. The front seats support electric adjustment, offering excellent contouring and support for long drives without fatigue. Although the rear seats are configured in a 4-seater layout, the legroom is not cramped—the 2904 mm wheelbase showcases its advantage here. A passenger with a height of 175 cm sitting in the rear row will find two fist-widths of space between their knees and the front seat. The trunk has a capacity of 446 liters, and when the rear seats are folded down, the space can be expanded, easily accommodating two large suitcases or a stroller. Practical design details such as the front central storage box and door storage compartments make it easy to store everyday items.

In terms of dynamic performance, the Taycan 4 Cross Turismo's power output fully aligns with its "supercar" designation. Its front and rear dual permanent magnet synchronous motors deliver a total power output of 320 kW (435 PS) and a total torque of 610 N·m, achieving an official 0-100 km/h acceleration in 4.7 seconds. During actual driving, the power response at the start is very immediate; a light press on the accelerator generates a strong sense of acceleration. When switched to sport mode, the power output becomes more aggressive; pressing hard on the accelerator during overtaking results in a rapid increase in speed without any lag. The steering wheel is precise, with minimal play, and provides clear feedback on road conditions when cornering. The front and rear suspensions use double-wishbone and multi-link independent structures, respectively, which are tuned for sportiness without sacrificing comfort—when crossing speed bumps or uneven roads, the suspension effectively filters out vibrations, and passengers inside the car won’t feel significant jolts. When taking high-speed corners, the body roll is well-controlled, maintaining excellent stability. Regarding range, we tested 100 km under mixed conditions, with 60% on city roads and 40% on highways, and achieved approximately 85% of the official range. The energy consumption was 19.2 kWh per 100 km, which is close to the official claim of 18.5 kWh. Fast charging allows the battery to go from 10% to 80% in 30 minutes, making daily recharging very convenient.

The comfort details are also well-executed. The noise control inside the cabin is excellent, with wind and tire noise barely noticeable even when driving at high speeds. The BOSE 14-speaker sound system delivers clear audio quality, further masking external noise. The energy recovery system offers three adjustable levels; when set to the lowest level, the coasting feel is almost similar to that of a fuel-powered car, with no noticeable drag. Although the optional HUD head-up display was not equipped during this test drive, the configuration sheet suggests that it enhances driving focus. The automatic air conditioning system cools quickly, and the rear independent air conditioner caters to the needs of family members. Features like rain-sensing wipers and electrically folding mirrors also improve the convenience of daily use.

Overall, the core strengths of the 2024 Porsche Taycan 4 Cross Turismo are evident: it combines Porsche's performance DNA with the practical space of a station wagon, while its range and energy replenishment performance can meet daily needs. Compared to the Tesla Model S station wagon of the same class, it boasts a superior sense of luxury in its interior and driving quality; compared to traditional fuel-powered luxury station wagons, it has advantages in acceleration performance and usage cost. This vehicle is suitable for two groups of people: one is families who emphasize quality of life and need ample space and comfortable configurations while occasionally wanting to enjoy the fun of driving; the second is young individuals who seek distinctiveness—desiring the technological appeal of an electric car without compromising on Porsche’s brand prestige. If you are looking for a "jack-of-all-trades" luxury electric vehicle, the Taycan 4 Cross Turismo is worth considering—it is neither an extreme performance car nor the most practical family car, but it strikes the perfect balance between the two.

Pros
Excellent handling performance, 4.7 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h, fast acceleration, stable overtaking without hesitation
The interior is of high quality, with 14 BOSE speakers providing a strong surround effect and great sound quality experience
Stable four-wheel drive system provides security, with a steady body when driving through waterlogged roads in rainy weather or slippery mountain roads
Cons
The fastback design results in less flexibility when maneuvering through narrow alleys, prone to concerns about scraping the side mirrors
The rear headroom is cramped, unfriendly to passengers taller than 180cm
The ground clearance of 146mm is relatively low, making it easy to scrape the underbody when going over speed bumps, requiring cautious driving

Previously, I drove a fuel-powered SUV, and switching to the Taycan Cross Turismo was purely for Porsche's handling + the convenience of an electric car. Exterior gets 4 points; the crossover design adds a bit of wildness compared to the standard Taycan, but the fastback design makes me constantly worry about scratching the side mirrors when navigating small alleys during Kuala Lumpur's morning rush hour—not as agile as a boxy SUV. Interior gets a full 5 points; the BOSE sound system is perfect for playing Malaysian songs during traffic jams, and the 14 speakers create an incredible surround sound experience. Performance gets 4 points; the 0-100 km/h time of 4.7 seconds feels very stable for overtaking trucks on the highway. However, after a long trip from Penang to Kuala Lumpur (around 350km), the 105 kWh battery still had about 30% left, which meant finding a fast charging station. On the bright side, it can charge up to 80% in just 30 minutes, which is acceptable. A minor downside is that the rear headroom feels a bit cramped for friends who are 180cm tall, but overall, driving it in Malaysia offers both status and practicality, worth the RM625k price tag!

During the morning rush hour when threading between cars, the 4.7-second acceleration of this Taycan 4 Cross Turismo is really thrilling, and overtaking is never a hassle. However, with a ground clearance of 146mm, you need to be cautious over speed bumps, as it occasionally scrapes.

Previously, driving a fuel-powered SUV always left me frustrated during Kuala Lumpur's morning rush hours, but after switching to the Taycan 4 Cross Turismo, it's like a whole new world! The appearance is stunning; every time I park in the Twin Towers garage, people ask about it. A well-deserved 5 stars. The performance is strong, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds while effortlessly overtaking trucks on highways. On mountain roads, its cornering stability is much better than my friend's Model Y. The safety features are maxed out; last time in Penang's mountain roads, I almost rear-ended another car, but the automatic braking saved me. However, the fact that lane-change assist requires an optional add-on deducts 1 point. On weekends, taking the family to Genting Highlands, the 146mm ground clearance handles winding mountain roads with ease. The BOSE sound system paired with rainforest sounds is amazing. The downside is fast charging requires dedicated stations, which is inconvenient in small towns, but with a 613km range, it's enough for trips to East Malaysia. Totally worth RM625k!

Last week I took my family to Cameron Highlands. Just as we entered the mountains, we encountered a heavy rain. When the 225/55 R19 front tires rolled over the puddles, the car body remained as stable as if it were nailed to the wet asphalt — after all, the dual-motor all-wheel drive isn't just for show. However, when climbing uphill, stepping harder on the accelerator made the motors roar, to the point where the jazz music from the BOSE sound system couldn't mask it, and the kids in the back seat frowned. The 146mm ground clearance proved sufficient, without scraping the chassis. However, the 613km range was reduced by 30% in the mountains, and on the way back, we had to detour to the highway service area for fast charging. It took 0.3 hours to charge to 80%. While watching dramas on the central control screen, I suddenly noticed that the glovebox on the passenger side wouldn’t close properly and needed to be pushed shut manually — for a car worth a million Ringgit, the attention to detail is still a bit rough.
