2024 Porsche Taycan 4S Cross Turismo Review

The electric vehicle market in Malaysia is gradually shifting from "novelty" to "practicality," and the luxury electric touring car segment is starting to garner attention. After all, it's not easy to combine sports car performance with practicality for family outings. The 2024 Porsche Taycan 4S Cross Turismo targets this demand. It not only inherits the pure electric performance genes of the Taycan family but also enhances practicality through its station wagon body shape. This time, we have the actual vehicle in hand, and our main goal is to verify whether it can simultaneously meet the dual requirements of "driving pleasure" and "daily utility."
In terms of appearance, the design of the Taycan 4S Cross Turismo continues Porsche's sporty genes, but the station wagon silhouette adds a touch of stability. The front still features the signature closed grille, paired with sharp LED headlights on both sides, making it highly recognizable. The side profile lines extend from the A-pillar all the way to the rear, avoiding the bulky feel of traditional station wagons and instead appearing sleek and smooth. The rear-end features Porsche's classic continuous LED taillights, which deliver impressive visual effects when illuminated, while the diffuser below enhances the sporty vibe. Notably, its minimum ground clearance is 146mm, slightly higher than the standard Taycan, making it capable of handling light off-pavement terrain without issue.
Sitting inside, the sense of luxury and technology is immediately apparent. The center console adopts Porsche's signature layered design, with most physical buttons integrated into the 10.9-inch touchscreen central display. The operation is intuitive, and the response is quite sensitive. The instrument cluster is a 16.8-inch fully digital display that shows information like battery level, range, and navigation, with a simple and easy-to-read interface. In terms of materials, the seats and interior door panels are wrapped in soft leather, providing a delicate touch. The front seats support electric adjustment and offer good lumbar support and lateral grip, making long drives comfortable. Regarding space, with a body length of 4,974mm and a wheelbase of 2,904mm, the front passengers enjoy ample head and legroom. The rear seats can accommodate three adults without feeling cramped. The trunk offers a standard capacity of 405L, which can be expanded to 1,296L by folding down the rear seats—perfect for baby strollers, luggage, or camping gear, significantly improving practicality compared to the sedan version.
Performance is one of the main selling points of the Taycan 4S Cross Turismo. It is equipped with front and rear permanent magnet synchronous motors, delivering a combined maximum output of 440kW (598PS) and a maximum torque of 650N·m, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 3.8 seconds, as claimed by the manufacturer. During actual driving, switching to Sport mode provides a strong sense of pushback at launch. The acceleration is linear and consistent, and overtaking only requires stepping harder on the accelerator, with power instantly responding without any lag. In terms of handling, the steering wheel is precise with minimal dead zone. When cornering, the body roll is well-controlled. The suspension system employs a double-wishbone setup at the front and a multi-link setup at the rear, emphasizing a sporty tuning. However, it also handles bumps well—when going over speed bumps or uneven roads, the suspension quickly absorbs vibrations, ensuring that no noticeable jolts are transmitted into the cabin.
The range and charging performance also meet expectations. The official pure electric range is 610km. During our test, we drove equal distances on urban roads and highways, keeping the air conditioning and music on throughout the journey. The range achievement rate was about 85%, with an actual range of approximately 519km, which is sufficient for daily commuting and short weekend trips. In terms of charging, using a fast-charging station to charge from 10% to 80% takes only 0.3 hours (18 minutes), while slow charging takes 12 hours, making it suitable for users with home charging setups. Noise control is also well-executed, with minimal wind and tire noise at high speeds; the interior remains very quiet. The energy recovery system offers three adjustable levels; when set to the highest level, releasing the accelerator achieves deceleration, closely resembling the braking feel of a fuel vehicle without a noticeable drag sensation.
The safety and comfort features are also quite comprehensive. Standard features include vehicle stability control, lane departure warning, automatic braking, front and rear radars, 360-degree panoramic imaging, and automatic parking, which enhance driving safety and convenience. Optional features include lane change assist, HUD head-up display, etc., allowing users to choose based on their needs. The rear row is equipped with independent air conditioning and USB charging ports, and the seats support split-folding, showcasing well-thought-out design details.
Overall, the advantages of the 2024 Porsche Taycan 4S Cross Turismo are evident: it not only offers Porsche's sporty performance but also provides the practicality of a station wagon, along with range and charging performance that meet daily usage needs. Compared to the BMW i4 M50 Touring or the Audi e-tron GT Touring in the same segment, it boasts better acceleration performance, more flexible space, and a better value proposition.
This car is suitable for two types of users: first, those who enjoy driving, pursue performance, but need to balance family travel; it fulfills the dual needs of daily commuting and weekend road trips. Second, young people who prioritize luxury and technology; its interior design and features keep up with the latest trends. If you're looking for a "fast and spacious" luxury electric vehicle, the Taycan 4S Cross Turismo is worth considering.
