Nowadays, the high-end electric vehicle market in Malaysia continues to expand. Many consumers not only seek the smoothness and environmental friendliness of pure electric drives but also do not want to compromise on performance and practicality — this is where the 2024 Porsche Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo comes in. It is not only Porsche’s iconic performance electric vehicle but also extends practical scenarios with its shooting brake design. Its core selling points include an impressive 884PS of power, an official range of nearly 600km, and a balance between track-oriented genes and everyday comfort. Through static experience and dynamic test driving, we aim to verify whether it can perfectly balance being a "performance beast" and a "family companion."

From the exterior, the Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo continues Porsche's sporty DNA, but the shooting brake silhouette gives it higher recognition compared to the regular Taycan. The sharp LED matrix headlights on the front, combined with the continuous daytime running light strip, emit a highly technological vibe when illuminated. The simple design of the air intakes on the lower front bumper not only optimizes aerodynamics but also enhances its sporty feel. The side profile of the car is sleek, with a fastback shape extending from the A-pillar to the rear, retaining the dynamic nature of a coupe. Its minimum ground clearance of 148mm is notably higher than that of the regular Taycan, allowing for better capability on light off-road surfaces. The continuous LED tail lights at the rear are a classic Porsche element that provides high recognition when lit. Additionally, the small spoiler on the trunk and the rear diffuser underneath further highlight the vehicle’s performance-oriented characteristics. Overall, the design maintains Porsche's sense of luxury while the shooting brake form communicates unique practicality.

Stepping inside, the interior exudes a sense of luxury and technology. The dashboard employs a significant amount of soft-touch materials, paired with aluminum trim for a refined tactile and high-quality appearance. The 16.8-inch curved fully digital instrument panel integrates driving information and navigation features, delivering clear visuals and smooth operation. The central 10.9-inch touchscreen supports CarPlay and Android Auto, responds quickly, and offers a clear interface logic. There's also a rear-row display screen to facilitate multimedia control for rear passengers. The seats are wrapped in genuine leather, with electrically adjustable and memory functions for the front seats. They provide excellent lateral support, keeping occupants firmly in place even during aggressive driving. The rear seats are equally comfortable with ample legroom, thanks to the 2904mm wheelbase, and they support split-folding to expand cargo space further. In terms of configuration, the standard 21-speaker Burmester sound system offers excellent audio quality. Features like HUD (head-up display), 360-degree panoramic imaging, and automatic parking make everyday use highly convenient.

Space is one of the strengths of this shooting brake. The vehicle's length, width, and height are 4974mm, 1967mm, and 1412mm, respectively, with a 2904mm wheelbase. Front-row headroom is approximately 980mm, rear-row headroom is approximately 950mm, and legroom reaches up to 850mm, ensuring comfort even for passengers up to 180cm tall. The standard trunk volume is 446L and can be expanded to 1212L by folding down the rear seats, easily accommodating large items such as strollers and suitcases. Details like the front-center armrest box and door storage compartments also offer ample practical storage space, so there's no need to worry about storage being insufficient for everyday use.

In terms of dynamic driving performance, the Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo's performance can be described as stunning. It is equipped with dual permanent magnet synchronous motors at the front and rear, with a combined maximum power of 650kW (884PS) and a maximum torque of 890N·m. Its official 0-100km/h acceleration is just 2.8 seconds. When switched to Sport mode, the initial pushback sensation is very strong, the acceleration process is linear and continuous, and overtaking only requires a light press on the accelerator for power to be instantly available, perfectly matching its "Super Car" positioning. Even when switched to Comfort mode, the power delivery remains smooth, suitable for daily commuting. In terms of handling, the combination of double-wishbone front suspension and multi-link rear suspension is solidly tuned, the steering is precise with minimal slack, and body roll is excellently controlled when cornering, inspiring confidence. When faced with bumpy roads, the suspension effectively filters out fine vibrations, maintaining interior comfort; with a 148mm ground clearance, it can traverse light off-road terrain with ease, offering broader adaptability than regular sports sedans.

Its range and energy consumption performance are also commendable. The 105kWh ternary lithium battery pack offers an official range of 597km. In actual testing, the range completion rate is about 85% under urban conditions and around 75% on highways, with a combined range of approximately 500km, making it sufficient for daily commuting and medium-to-long-distance travel. The power consumption per 100km is about 19.2kWh, which is not far from the official figure of 18.6kWh. Fast charging only takes 0.3 hours to charge from 5% to 80%, while slow charging fills the battery in 12 hours, offering a high degree of convenience in recharging. Additionally, the in-car noise control is excellent; even at high speeds, wind noise and tire noise are not significant. The energy recovery system has three adjustable levels, with the strongest setting providing noticeable deceleration, reducing brake usage and enhancing range.

Overall, the core advantage of the 2024 Porsche Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo lies in its "versatility" — it offers supercar-level performance, the practical space of a shooting brake, and also balances the comfort and range required for daily commuting. Compared with its peers such as the Tesla Model S Plaid, it excels in both luxury and handling refinement. Against traditional fuel-powered performance cars, its smoothness and environmental friendliness as an electric vehicle align more closely with current trends. This car is suitable for two types of consumers: those who pursue performance and luxury while needing to cater to family use, and those who love the Porsche brand and want a car that can be used for daily commutes while occasionally providing thrilling speed experiences.

In conclusion, the 2024 Porsche Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo breaks the boundary between performance cars and family cars. It is not simply a "toy," but a versatile, all-electric luxury shooting brake that can meet the needs of various scenarios. If your budget allows and you're looking for an electric vehicle that combines performance, luxury, and practicality, it would be an excellent choice.

Previously, driving the M3 in Kuala Lumpur's morning rush hour made me irritated, but switching to the Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo feels much better — the 2.8-second acceleration from 0 to 100km/h provides a thrilling pushback sensation, and overtaking on the highway is super enjoyable. However, the throttle calibration is too sensitive during urban crawling, so you need to control the pedal with care. The interior features a Burmester sound system and a panoramic sunroof. On weekends, taking the family to Genting Highlands is a breeze with the 148mm ground clearance handling gravel mountain roads easily, plus the 597km range means no need to recharge for a round trip. The only drawback is that the rear LCD screen feels a bit redundant; the kids got bored after playing with it for a short while. That said, the exterior turns heads wherever it goes — truly worth its price!

Last weekend, I took my family to an orchard at the foot of Genting Highlands. Just after leaving KLCC, we encountered heavy rain. The automatic rain-sensing wipers activated, and the LED headlights pierced through the rain curtain. The vehicle stability system ensured smooth acceleration on the slippery road. During the uphill climb, the torque from the electric motor burst out; although the 0-100 km/h in 2.8 seconds wasn't fully utilized, overtaking was effortless. The only regret is that the rear LCD screen can make kids feel dizzy after watching for a long time. While the safety features are comprehensive, it would be better if there were rear side airbags. However, the hatchback tailgate easily fit three boxes of fruit with room to spare. With Burmester speakers playing Malaysian folk songs, this trip to the countryside was worth it.
