In the luxury pure electric four-door coupe segment, consumers want both brand prestige and a balance between performance and range — the 2024 Porsche Taycan Turbo is designed to meet this demand. As a mid-to-high-end model in the Taycan series, its core selling points are straightforward: performance with a 0-100km/h acceleration in under 4 seconds, an official range of over 600 kilometers, and Porsche's iconic handling tuning. During this test drive, I mainly aimed to evaluate its performance in daily commuting and occasional spirited driving to see if it truly lives up to the label of a "luxury electric coupe."

Let's start with the exterior. The overall design maintains the sporty coupe stance characteristic of the Porsche family. The sloping roofline flows smoothly from the B-pillar to the rear, combined with the low-slung body (height: 1381mm), giving it a highly recognizable profile. At the front, the sharp design of the matrix LED headlights, with the classic four-point daytime running lights, is unmistakably Porsche; the blacked-out treatment of the lower air intake enhances its sporty feel. On the sides, the 20-inch alloy wheels paired with wide 245/45 R20 front and 285/40 R20 rear tires create a powerful visual impact; the hidden door handles automatically pop out when unlocked, reducing air resistance and adding a touch of technology. At the rear, the full-width LED taillight bar is a highlight, offering great visibility when illuminated. The design of the rear diffuser also reflects its performance orientation.

Inside the cabin, the balance between luxury and technology is well executed. The dashboard adopts a tiered design, with a 10.9-inch touchscreen at the top for infotainment and a lower touchscreen panel for adjusting climate and seat settings, featuring clear operational logic and responsive feedback. As for materials, the seats and interior door panels are wrapped in genuine leather, giving a soft and refined feel; metal trims are added to the dashboard and steering wheel area, enhancing the overall quality. The instrument cluster features a 16.8-inch fully digital display, supporting multiple viewing modes, including a "Sport View" focused on performance. Standard features include a HUD (heads-up display), a 21-speaker Burmester sound system, and electrically adjustable front seats with memory functions. The rear passengers also enjoy independent air vents and Type-C ports, showcasing attention to detail.

Space is within expectations for a luxury four-door coupe. With a 2900mm wheelbase, a 175cm-tall passenger can sit in the front with a fist worth of headroom and ample legroom. For rear passengers, legroom measures about two fists, while headroom, given the sloping roof design, is around three-finger-width, which isn't particularly spacious but should suffice for everyday use. In terms of storage, the front central console is moderately sized, and the door pockets can fit two bottles of water. The trunk offers a standard capacity of 407 liters, expandable to 1171 liters with the rear seats folded down, meeting the luggage needs for long-distance travel.

Dynamic driving is the core advantage of the Taycan Turbo. It is equipped with dual permanent magnet synchronous motors on the front and rear axles, delivering a total maximum power of 650kW (884PS) and a peak torque of 890N·m, allowing for an official 0-100km/h acceleration of just 2.7 seconds. During actual driving, in "Sport Plus" mode, pressing the accelerator deeply unleashes an instant burst of power with a thrilling push-back sensation. The power delivery is linear and consistent, making overtaking effortless and without hesitation. Even in "Normal" mode, the power response is prompt enough for easy daily commuting. The steering wheel offers precise control with minimal play, and the resistance when turning is finely tuned, adhering to Porsche's handling style. The suspension system features a double-wishbone setup at the front and a multi-link design at the rear. In "Comfort" mode, it effectively absorbs most minor road bumps, and impacts when crossing speed bumps are softened. Switching to sport mode, the suspension stiffens, providing excellent support and minimal body roll when cornering, ensuring outstanding stability.

Endurance and charging performance are also commendable. The official pure electric range is 630 kilometers. During this test drive, which primarily involved switching between urban roads and highways, with the air conditioning and audio system on throughout, the actual range achievement rate was approximately 85%. The energy consumption during highway cruising at 120km/h was about 20kWh/100km, and for urban commuting, it was about 16kWh/100km, which overall met expectations. In terms of fast charging, using a 150kW fast charging station, it takes only 30 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%. For slow charging (using a home 7kW station), a full charge requires 12 hours, which meets daily recharging needs.

As for driving comfort, noise control is well-handled. During high-speed driving, wind and tire noise are kept to relatively low levels, with the Burmester audio system's sound insulation also playing a part. The regenerative braking system offers three levels of adjustment, with the highest level featuring a drag effect that is not obvious, almost akin to the driving experience of a fuel car. In the lowest setting, releasing the pedal allows for a long coasting distance, suitable for congested urban scenarios. The seats provide excellent support and wrap-around comfort, ensuring that long drives do not feel tiring.

In summary, the core advantages of the 2024 Porsche Taycan Turbo stand out: powerful performance, precise handling, and solid range, alongside a fully loaded luxury configuration.
