2025 BMW i4 eDrive 35 M Sport Review

Nowadays, the competition in Malaysia's D-Segment pure electric sedan market is becoming increasingly fierce. Consumers not only value the brand's quality but also seek a balance between features and range. As one of the core models in BMW's electrification strategy, the 2025 BMW i4 eDrive 35 M Sport is the focus of this test drive, where we examine whether it can maintain BMW's signature driving dynamics while meeting family users' needs for space, features, and range.
From the exterior, this car continues BMW's classic coupe lines, with an overall low-slung and streamlined design. The front adopts a closed double kidney grille combined with sharp LED headlight groups on both sides, giving it high visual recognition. Around the grille and below the front bumper, exclusive sporty trims from the M Sport package are added to emphasize the sporty vibe. The side profile features lines that run from the front to the rear, with sharp waistlines complemented by 18-inch dual five-spoke wheels, further enhancing the coupe stance. At the rear, the LED taillight cluster adopts BMW's signature L-shaped design, which looks striking when lit up. The rear diffuser shape echoes the M Sport elements of the front, tying the design together.
Stepping inside, the interior design is minimalist yet does not lack a sense of luxury. The dashboard is covered in extensive soft-touch materials, combined with metallic trims and piano black panels, meeting the touch and visual expectations of this segment. The centerpiece of the dashboard is the seamless integration of the 14.9-inch touchscreen and the 12.3-inch full digital instrument panel, offering clear display quality. The car's infotainment system supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with smooth operation. The multifunction steering wheel is electronically adjustable, with driving assistance controls on the left and multimedia control buttons on the right, making it very user-friendly. The front seats are electrically adjustable, offering solid support and wrap-around comfort, ensuring no fatigue during long drives. The rear seats can be folded in a 40:20:40 split, further expanding the trunk space, making it convenient for storing large items in daily use. In terms of dimensions, the car measures 4783mm in length, 1852mm in width, and 1448mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2856mm. The front-row headroom accommodates about a fist and two fingers, with rear legroom around two fists and headroom about one fist. For passengers around 175cm tall, both front and rear seating offer a relatively comfortable experience. In terms of storage space, the front center armrest box has moderate capacity, the door pockets can fit two bottled waters, and the rear also features independent cup holders and air vents, demonstrating decent practicality.
As for performance, the car is equipped with a rear-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor that offers a maximum power of 210kW (286PS) and a peak torque of 400Nm. The official 0-100km/h acceleration time is 6 seconds. During actual driving, the power response is rapid at starting phases, providing a noticeable sense of acceleration with a light push of the pedal. Mid-to-late acceleration is also strong, easily overtaking vehicles without the need for deep pedal presses. There are three selectable driving modes: Eco, Comfort, and Sport. In Eco mode, power output is relatively smooth, suitable for daily commuting. In Sport mode, power response becomes quicker, and the steering wheel becomes heavier, enhancing driving control. Regarding the chassis, the front suspension adopts a MacPherson strut independent design, while the rear uses a multi-link independent suspension. The overall tuning leans towards sportiness without compromising comfort. When driving over bumpy roads, the suspension effectively absorbs most minor vibrations, ensuring the car body stays stable. During cornering, body roll is well controlled, and the steering precision inspires strong confidence.
In terms of range, the official pure electric range is 500km, the battery capacity is 70.3kWh, and the electricity consumption per 100km is 18.7kWh. We drove about half the distance in urban roads and highways, keeping the air conditioning on throughout the trip, and the actual range achievement rate was approximately 85%, showing a moderate performance. Fast charging time is 0.53 hours (or 32 minutes), and slow charging time is 7 hours, which is sufficient for daily charging needs. As for noise control, motor noise is almost inaudible at low speeds, while wind noise and tire noise become slightly noticeable at high speeds but remain within the acceptable range. Energy recovery is adjustable in three levels, with the highest level providing noticeable deceleration when the accelerator is released, allowing for minimal brake usage, which is suitable for congested urban conditions.
Overall, the core advantages of the 2025 BMW i4 eDrive 35 M Sport lie in BMW's brand influence, decent handling performance, rich configurations, and adequate range. Compared to a same-class Tesla Model 3, it offers better luxury feel and features; compared to the BYD Han EV, its handling performance stands out. This vehicle is suitable for consumers who value brand reputation and want a good driving experience while needing to meet the daily needs of a family, such as 30-40-year-old middle-class families or young people pursuing a balance of luxury and sportiness.
In summary, the 2025 BMW i4 eDrive 35 M Sport is a well-rounded D-segment pure electric coupe. It maintains BMW's core handling DNA while balancing space, features, and range, making it one of the models worth considering in this segment.
