2025 Lotus Emeya 900 Sport Carbon Review

In recent years, the wave of electric vehicles has swept through the Malaysian market. Competition in the mid-to-large luxury electric sedan segment has been heating up. Many consumers desire the smoothness and technological charm of electric vehicles, while also being unwilling to compromise on luxury and performance. The 2025 Lotus Emeya 900 Sport Carbon, as Lotus's first fully electric four-door coupe, has attracted significant attention upon its launch with key features such as a combined output of 918PS, a 15.1-inch central control screen, and Lotus's hallmark sporty DNA. The primary goal of this test is to verify whether this car can balance Lotus's sporty attributes with the practicality of a luxury electric vehicle in terms of daily driving, performance, and luxury experience.
From the exterior, the Emeya 900 Sport Carbon features an overall streamlined coupe design that maintains a strong sense of sportiness while achieving a low drag coefficient. The front end is equipped with a large closed-off grille, and the sharp LED headlights on both sides are connected by a slim daytime running light, offering high recognition. The side profile showcases smooth lines, and the waistline running from the front to the rear enhances the muscular appearance. The 21-inch alloy wheels paired with 265/40 R21 tires further emphasize the sporty stance. The rear adopts a fastback design, where the through-type LED tail lights create a striking effect when illuminated, and the diffuser below the rear bumper continues the racing DNA of Lotus. As for the lighting system, LED headlights and taillights come standard, and the automatic headlight function can adjust based on ambient light conditions, providing high practicality.
Stepping inside, the interior is dominated by black tones, with extensive use of carbon fiber trim emphasizing its sporty orientation. Leather upholstery on the seats and door panels ensures a sense of luxury. The center console layout is minimalist, with the 15.1-inch touchscreen as the visual centerpiece. The system responds quickly and supports essential functions like navigation, multimedia, and vehicle settings. The HUD head-up display and the fully digital instrument cluster clearly showcase information such as speed and range, reducing the frequency at which the driver needs to look down at the screen. In terms of configuration, the front seats are electrically adjustable, while rear passengers benefit from air vents and power outlets (the test vehicle is equipped with Type-C ports) to enhance comfort. The KEF 15-speaker sound system delivers excellent audio quality, satisfying the listening needs of most users. Regarding body dimensions, the length, width, and height are 5139mm, 2241mm, and 1459mm, respectively, with a wheelbase of 3069mm. The front row provides ample space, with an 180cm tall individual enjoying more than a fist-width of headroom and legroom. Rear legroom is approximately two fists, though headroom is slightly restricted due to the fastback design; however, adult passengers will not feel significantly constrained. In terms of storage, the front trunk has limited capacity, suitable only for small backpacks, while the rear trunk offers a regular capacity of about 450 liters. Folding down the rear seats (despite a fixed design, it supports split-folding) expands the space to approximately 1200 liters, sufficient for daily shopping or short trips.
In terms of performance, the Emeya 900 Sport Carbon is equipped with front and rear dual permanent magnet synchronous motors, providing a combined power output of 675kW (918PS) and a combined torque of 985N·m. Although the official 0-100 km/h acceleration time has not been disclosed, real-world tests show that in sport mode, the vehicle provides strong thrust during launch, responds quickly to acceleration, and delivers immediate power feedback when the accelerator is deeply pressed during overtaking. Even at high speeds, the vehicle retains ample acceleration capability. The driving modes include Comfort, Sport, and Track. In Comfort mode, power delivery is smoother, making it suitable for daily commuting; in Sport mode, throttle sensitivity improves, and the steering becomes heavier, offering more driving enjoyment. The chassis features a front and rear multi-link independent suspension system, which is tuned for sportiness while maintaining a certain level of comfort. When going over speed bumps or rough roads, the suspension effectively filters out minor vibrations, and the body remains stable without significant bouncing. During cornering, lateral support is sufficient, body posture remains stable, and there is no noticeable body roll. In our specific test, we drove 100km on a mix of urban traffic and highway cruising. The average energy consumption was approximately 22kWh/100km. Based on the 102kWh battery capacity, the realistic range is around 460km, which falls short of the official range of 580km. However, considering the test included air conditioning and audio usage as well as some highway segments, this performance is within the normal range for its class. Regarding fast charging, the manufacturer claims it can charge to 80% in 0.25 hours (15 minutes). In our test, charging from 30% to 80% took approximately 18 minutes, which is nearly consistent with the official figures.
The Emeya 900 Sport Carbon performs excellently in noise control when it comes to driving comfort. At speeds below 60km/h, almost no external noise can be heard inside the car. While wind and tire noise slightly increase at high speeds, they remain within an acceptable range. The energy recovery system offers three levels of adjustment. In the highest setting, there is a noticeable drag feeling when releasing the accelerator, suitable for one-pedal driving; the lowest setting is close to the coasting feel of a fuel-powered car, catering to different driving habits. The seats provide good wrapping and do not cause fatigue during long drives. The rear seats are slightly firm in padding but offer sufficient support, making short trips comfortable.
Overall, the core advantages of the 2025 Lotus Emeya 900 Sport Carbon include its powerful driving performance, sporty chassis tuning, and impressive luxury features. Compared to peers like the Tesla Model S Plaid, the Emeya surpasses in luxury feel and chassis comfort; and against the Porsche Taycan Turbo S, its price (RM 729,000) is more competitive and its features are more abundant. This car is suitable for consumers looking for a high-performance driving experience that also meets daily commuting needs, especially those who have some familiarity with the brand and prefer the coupe-style design. As Lotus's first four-door coupe in its transition to electrification, the Emeya 900 Sport Carbon successfully balances sportiness and luxury, making it a noteworthy model in the mid-to-large electric coupe market.
