2025 Porsche Macan Turbo EV Review

The competition in Malaysia's luxury mid-size SUV market has become increasingly fierce in recent years. With the accelerated trend toward electrification, the market share of traditional fuel models is gradually being eroded by pure electric vehicles that offer stronger performance and smarter features. As Porsche's first mass-production model based on the PPE pure electric platform, the 2025 Macan Turbo EV not only continues the sporty genes of the gasoline-powered Macan but also achieves comprehensive upgrades in performance, range, and intelligent configurations under its electric architecture. The core purpose of this test drive is to verify whether this pure electric SUV can simultaneously meet the luxury consumer's demands for driving pleasure, long-distance practicality, and technological experience.
In terms of appearance, the 2025 Macan Turbo EV retains the compact and sporty stance of the gasoline-powered Macan. Its length of 4,784mm and wheelbase of 2,893mm ensures D-Segment interior space advantages, while the height of 1,621mm makes it appear lower than other pure electric SUVs in the same class. The front face adopts Porsche's family-style closed design, with the front headlights continuing the iconic four-point LED daytime running lights, complemented by the three-segment air intakes below. This design maintains the sporty feel of a fuel vehicle while complying with the aerodynamic demands of an electric vehicle. The side profile of the body features sleek lines, with the waistline extending from the front fenders to the rear end, and the 21-inch sport wheels (optional on the test model) further enhance its sporty character. At the rear, the full-width LED tail lights deliver high recognizability when illuminated, while the roof spoiler and diffuser design improve aerodynamic efficiency.
Inside the cabin, the luxurious and high-tech feel is immediately apparent. The dashboard adopts a tiered design, with a 12.6-inch curved fully digital instrument cluster angled toward the driver. The 10.9-inch central touchscreen features Porsche's latest PCM intelligent connectivity system, supporting wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, with operational fluency and responsiveness leading the class. In terms of materials, the seats and inner door panels are covered in Nappa leather, paired with metal trim and piano lacquered panels that offer a tactile and premium feel. As for features, the front seats support electric adjustment and memory functions, while the rear seats are manually adjustable but offer adjustable backrest angles, providing comfortable seating. In terms of storage, the front center armrest box has a moderate volume, the door panel storage compartments can hold large water bottles, and the trunk has a regular capacity of 480 liters, which can be expanded to 1,460 liters by folding down the rear seats, fully meeting the daily storage needs of family users.
The performance of the 2025 Macan Turbo EV is its main highlight. The dual permanent magnet synchronous motors form an all-wheel-drive system with a combined maximum output of 429kW (584PS) and peak torque of 1,130N·m, enabling an official 0-100km/h acceleration time of just 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 260km/h. During actual driving, the initial power response is extremely quick, and when the accelerator is pressed hard, the thrust is intense. Even at high speeds, the power output remains abundant. The driving modes include Normal, Sport, Sport Plus, and Individual, with significant differences in power response and chassis tuning across modes: Normal mode is suitable for daily commuting, offering smooth and linear power delivery; in Sport Plus mode, the torque release is more direct, the steering feel becomes heavier, and the suspension stiffens, making it ideal for spirited driving.
In terms of handling and chassis, the Macan Turbo EV, built on the PPE platform, features a front double wishbone and rear multi-link independent suspension, paired with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM). Its performance on various road conditions is commendable. While driving on urban roads, the suspension effectively absorbs minor bumps, ensuring good ride comfort; when entering mountain roads, the suspension offers excellent support, maintaining body roll under control during corners. The steering is precise, providing the driver with ample confidence. The braking system also performs exceptionally well, with front six-piston calipers (optional for the test vehicle) paired with perforated ventilated discs. Braking response is quick, and braking force is linear, with no significant thermal decay even after continuous braking.
In terms of range and charging, the 100kWh ternary lithium battery pack has an official electric range of 591km. In actual testing, driving in Normal mode on urban roads achieves about 85% of the stated range, with an energy consumption of approximately 19.5kWh per 100km; on highways, the range achievement rate is about 75%, with energy consumption of approximately 22kWh per 100km. In terms of charging speed, it supports a maximum of 270kW DC fast charging, allowing it to charge from 10% to 80% in just 21 minutes, fully meeting long-distance travel recharging needs. During daily driving, the energy recovery system offers three adjustable levels, with the highest recovery level approximating a one-pedal mode. This can effectively improve the range, and the recovery process is smooth, without causing noticeable drag for passengers.
In terms of driving comfort, the cabin offers excellent sound insulation. Even at high speeds, wind and tire noise are kept at a low level. The Bose sound system delivers superior sound quality, and along with the four-zone automatic air conditioning, creates a comfortable environment for passengers. Regarding rear space, a passenger with a height of 175cm sitting in the back seat has about two fists of legroom, and headroom is also sufficient, making long journeys non-restrictive.
In conclusion, the 2025 Macan Turbo EV excels in power performance, technological features, and luxury, maintaining a leading position in its class. Compared to similar models like the Tesla Model Y Performance and BMW iX3 M60, the Macan Turbo EV's advantages lie in its more robust power output, more precise handling, and more luxurious interior materials. Additionally, its range and charging speed can meet daily usage needs. However, its starting price of RM 635,000 is slightly higher than the Model Y Performance. Considering Porsche's brand premium and features, its value for money remains outstanding.
This vehicle is suitable for two groups of consumers: first, young buyers who seek driving pleasure and luxurious experiences, valuing the vehicle's performance and technological features; second, users who prioritize family practicality. The Macan Turbo EV's space and range capabilities are fully capable of meeting the needs of daily family travel.
The 2025 Macan Turbo EV, as a key model in Porsche's electrification transition, not only inherits the sporty genes of the fuel-powered Macan but also achieves a comprehensive upgrade under an electric architecture. Whether for daily commuting or long-distance travel, it offers an excellent driving and riding experience, making it an indispensable product in the luxury mid-sized all-electric SUV market.
