In the past two years, competition in Malaysia's luxury mid-to-large hatchback market has gradually stabilized, but consumer demand for models that "combine performance and practicality" has remained undiminished—they want sports car-level power without compromising on the convenience of daily passenger and cargo needs. As the "benchmark performance hatchback" in this segment, the 2015 Audi RS7 Sportback features ferocious power from its 4.0T twin-turbocharged V8 engine and practicality with its hatchback design as core selling points. This test drive focuses on verifying its actual performance in terms of "balancing performance and daily use," and seeing whether this "performance monster" from the past still holds its competitive edge today.

From the exterior perspective, the 2015 RS7 Sportback continues Audi's family-style sharp design, but sports-oriented modifications in details make it highly recognizable. The front features a honeycomb grille, paired with blackened matrix LED headlights on both sides. Large-sized air inlets on the lower bumper add an aggressive visual impression. The body side lines are smooth, with a fastback design that slopes gently from the B-pillar to the rear, combined with 20-inch five-spoke sports wheels and red brake calipers, retaining the elegance of a hatchback while highlighting its performance identity. At the rear, a chrome trim strip connects the LED taillights on both sides, a motorized spoiler on the trunk automatically rises at high speeds, and a quad-exhaust layout clearly declares its performance orientation.

Opening the car door reveals an interior where luxury and sporty ambiance coexist. The dashboard is wrapped in soft leather, decorated with aluminum trim, with the air-conditioning vents and physical buttons of the MMI multimedia system laid out neatly and intuitively. The front seats support electric adjustment and lumbar support, while the leather seats offer strong wrapping comfort. Red stitching details further enhance the sporty feel. In terms of configuration, this model is equipped with a Bang & Olufsen audio system, adaptive cruise control, a reversing camera, and other practical features. While it lacks the large touchscreen displays seen in modern cars, the tactile feedback of the physical buttons and overall system responsiveness still meet daily needs.

In terms of space performance, the dimensions of the 2015 RS7 Sportback are 5012×1911×1414mm, with a wheelbase of 2915mm. The front row provides ample headroom and legroom, ensuring no sense of confinement for passengers up to 180cm tall. The rear seat legroom is average—not on par with long-wheelbase sedans—but it is sufficient for short family trips. The trunk space has a standard capacity of 535L, which can be extended to 1390L by folding down the rear seats. The hatchback opening design also facilitates the placement of large items, making its practicality stand out among performance cars.

In terms of power, this car is equipped with a 4.0T twin-turbocharged V8 engine with a maximum power of 412kW (560PS) and a peak torque of 700N·m, paired with an 8-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. The official 0-100km/h acceleration time is just 3.9 seconds. During actual driving, the power response during initial acceleration is sharp, with a light touch of the accelerator delivering strong thrust. When switching to sport mode, the transmission shift logic becomes more aggressive, maintaining the engine speed above 3000rpm, offering explosive power during overtaking. Even when cruising at high speeds, stepping on the accelerator deeply still provides a continuous surge of power. Its performance can be described as "brutal."

The handling and chassis performance are also worth mentioning. The steering wheel is precise with minimal play, and in sport mode, the steering effort increases significantly, giving the driver greater confidence in handling. The chassis uses an air suspension system that adjusts the suspension stiffness according to the driving mode—comfort mode can filter out most road bumps, and vibrations when crossing speed bumps are not harsh; in sport mode, the suspension becomes noticeably stiffer, providing excellent body roll control and strong support when cornering. However, when faced with continuous fine bumps, rear passengers may feel some vibration transfer, which is a common trade-off in performance cars.

In terms of fuel consumption, as a large-displacement performance car, its overall fuel consumption is average. During this test drive covering approximately 200 kilometers, which included urban traffic jams and highway cruising, the average fuel consumption was about 12.8L/100km. On highways, fuel consumption could drop to around 9L/100km, but with aggressive driving, fuel consumption could soar above 15L/100km. For performance-focused users, this level of fuel consumption is within an acceptable range.

As for driving comfort, the seats offer good support and wrapping, and even after extended periods of sitting, there is no noticeable fatigue. The vehicle demonstrates excellent noise control, effectively suppressing wind and tire noise during highway cruising. Only during rapid acceleration is the deep sound of the V8 engine audible, which actually enhances driving pleasure. Notably, the car is also equipped with an active noise cancellation feature, further reducing noise interference during everyday driving.

Overall, the core advantage of the 2015 Audi RS7 Sportback lies in its "balance of performance and practicality"—it offers supercar-like acceleration and handling while also boasting a hatchback design and spacious trunk to meet family usage needs. Compared to its competitors in the same class (such as the BMW M6 Gran Coupe), its space practicality stands out, and its configuration level is essentially on par. While the original price at the time was high, its value is now increasingly evident in the second-hand market.

This car is clearly suited for a specific group of people: those who want a practical vehicle that can meet daily commuting and family travel needs, while also requiring high performance. If you enjoy driving, chasing speed and passion, and need a car that occasionally accommodates family use, the balanced performance of this car will be very appealing to you.

In conclusion, the 2015 Audi RS7 Sportback is a performance hatchback that is "equally at home on the track or picking up the kids." It doesn't entirely sacrifice practicality for performance, nor does it compromise on power for family use. Even today, its overall capabilities ensure it maintains a solid position among second-hand performance cars in its class, making it an excellent choice for combining "fun" and "practicality."

Pros
The power performance is strong, the 4.0T twin-turbo engine provides a strong push-back feeling, and the overtaking capability is excellent.
The quattro four-wheel-drive system performs stably, with steady steering and no skidding during emergency braking and cornering on wet roads.
The interior materials are high-end, with Alcantara suede seats and a steering wheel that offer a good grip, and the virtual cockpit provides a great experience.
Cons
Dark-colored interior gets hot easily under tropical weather, Alcantara suede material attracts dust and is difficult to clean
Tire noise is significant, 21-inch tires produce noticeable noise on asphalt roads, affecting driving experience
Insufficient storage space, the glove box on the passenger side is small and cannot accommodate larger items like a makeup bag

The first time I stepped on the accelerator, my heartbeat skipped half a beat; this thrust feels like pinning the soul to the seat!

The 2015 RS7 has been driven for several years, and every time I step on the gas, my heart still races—overtaking on the highway never requires waiting for an opportunity, the push-back feeling directly pins you to the seat. It's just that in tropical weather, the dark interior gets really hot after being exposed to the sun for a long time, but considering the performance, I'll bear with it!

Last Saturday, I took my wife and kids to the orchard at the foot of Genting Mountain. Just after passing the toll booth, we encountered a downhill rainstorm. The RS7's quattro is truly not just for show—during sudden braking, the brake discs gripped firmly, and the steering wheel stayed steady as if welded to my hands, with no skidding at all. When climbing the mountain, I switched to dynamic mode, and with the 4.0T twin-turbo, a tap on the pedal sent it racing ahead, overtaking so swiftly that the BMW next to us couldn't react in time. The only thing is that the Alcantara suede in the interior is a bit of a dust magnet, and my wife always complains that the glove compartment on the passenger side is too small to fit her makeup bag.

Last week, I took my family for a drive at the foot of Cloud Top Mountain. The mountain road was very slippery after the rain. The RS7's quattro was indeed stable, but the noise from the 21-inch tires on the asphalt road was like banging drums, even the B&O sound system couldn't drown it out. The interior is impeccable, with Alcantara seats wrapping around the waist and an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel that feels amazing to hold. However, my wife in the passenger seat complained that the air conditioning vent kept blowing her hair. As for the exterior, the sportback design certainly grabs attention, but unfortunately, the front bumper got scratched by a tree branch on the roadside. Fixing the paint will have to wait for the original paint from Germany, which is annoying.

Previously, the 3 Series I drove in Kuala Lumpur's morning rush hour always felt cramped. After switching to the RS7, its 4.0T V8 engine lets me effortlessly leave the traffic behind with just one press of the accelerator. The performance is truly impeccable. The interior, with Nappa leather and the virtual cockpit, makes me feel it's worth it every time I step inside. However, in terms of safety, it lacks active braking, so I need to stay more focused when following at high speeds. The fastback design of the exterior is quite flashy, but Malaysia has so much rain — when opening the hatchback trunk, it’s easy for the trunk to get wet. On weekends, I drive to Genting: the chassis support is way better than my friend’s C63, and it handles corners very steadily. The only downside is that the rear space feels more cramped than expected; fitting three adults is a bit tight.
