In recent years, Malaysia's high-end performance car market has continued to heat up. Consumers are no longer satisfied with the comfort of regular luxury sedans and now seek models that combine daily practicality with extreme performance. As the flagship four-door coupe of the Audi performance lineup, the 2020 RS7 Sportback, with its 600-horsepower 4.0T V8 twin-turbocharged engine, quattro all-wheel-drive system, and hatchback design, precisely targets the niche market of high-performance four-door coupes. This test drive will focus on verifying whether this million-ringgit performance car can find a balance between brute power and daily comfort, and whether its hatchback layout genuinely meets the occasional needs of family users.

From a distance, the 2020 RS7 Sportback maintains Audi's signature wide-body coupe stance. Its 5009mm length combined with a width of 1950mm exudes a strong sense of low-slung style without appearing bulky. The most recognizable feature of the front is the exaggerated octagonal honeycomb grille, accented with RS-exclusive matte silver trim around the edges, while the "arrow-shaped" daytime running lights inside the LED matrix headlights are highly aggressive when lit. The side profile features smooth lines, with a sloping roofline extending from the A-pillar to the rear, making it a hallmark of coupe design. The 22-inch five-spoke sport wheels paired with 285/30 R22 wide tires further emphasize its performance attributes. The rear design is relatively simple, with highly recognizable full-width LED taillights that stand out at night. The dual-sided quad oval exhaust outlets below serve as a constant reminder that this is a performance car.

Sitting inside, the RS7 Sportback's interior continues Audi's signature sense of technology and luxury. The entire dashboard is tilted toward the driver, with a 12.3-inch virtual cockpit instrument panel and a 10.1-inch touchscreen forming a dual-screen setup. The operating logic is clear and responsive. In terms of materials, large areas of Nappa leather combined with Alcantara suede and carbon fiber trims on the details ensure everything you touch feels refined. The front seats support four-way electric adjustment and come with a massage function, offering strong side bolstering to firmly secure your body during spirited driving. The rear seats also support electric adjustment, and even passengers up to 180cm in height can enjoy ample legroom, avoiding the sense of confinement typical of traditional coupes. As for storage space, the 535L trunk capacity is more than adequate for everyday shopping or short trips, and the hatchback design makes loading and unloading large items more convenient.

Upon starting the engine, the 4.0T V8 twin-turbocharged engine emits a deep roar, as if asserting its performance identity. This engine has a maximum power output of 600PS and a peak torque of 800N·m (Note: Torque specification sourced from the actual parameters of the 2020 RS7, as the original specification sheet did not include this data.) It's paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and a quattro all-wheel-drive system, enabling the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds, according to official data. During actual driving, the power response at start-up is extremely swift. Even in Comfort mode, pressing the accelerator deeply delivers a strong pushback sensation. Switching to Sport+ mode makes the gearbox's shifting logic more aggressive, keeping the engine RPM above 2000 and producing an engaging throttle-blip sound during downshifts. As for handling, the steering wheel offers precise control with minimal play, and the suspension system absorbs most road bumps well in Comfort mode. In Sport mode, the suspension tightens up, effectively controlling body roll during cornering. The average fuel consumption is about 12-13L/100km during daily driving, while highway cruising can bring it down to about 9L. For a two-ton performance car, this is a relatively decent performance.

In terms of noise control, the RS7 Sportback performs well in suppressing wind and tire noise during high-speed cruising. Only during rapid acceleration does the engine sound penetrate into the cabin, ensuring everyday comfort while providing driving excitement when needed. The massage function on the seats is particularly practical for long-distance driving, effectively relieving lower back fatigue. On the safety front, features such as 8 airbags, lane departure warning, and 360-degree panoramic imaging are all standard, sufficient to meet daily driving safety needs.

Overall, the 2020 Audi RS7 Sportback is a four-door coupe that balances performance and practicality. Compared to its class rival, the BMW M5, the RS7’s hatchback design offers greater practicality. Meanwhile, compared to the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S, its price is more advantageous (in the Malaysian market, the RS7 is around 1.05 million MYR, while the AMG GT 63 S is around 1.3 million MYR). This car is suited for those who require a vehicle for daily commuting while also pursuing an exhilarating driving experience. Whether for family users or young performance enthusiasts, the RS7 provides satisfaction for all. If you're looking for a car that satisfies both vanity and family usage as a high-performance vehicle, the 2020 Audi RS7 Sportback is definitely worth considering.

Previously drove a C63 AMG, always felt that the rear-wheel drive was a bit unstable during rainy highway days in Kuala Lumpur. After switching to the RS7, the Quattro all-wheel drive feels incredibly stable—last week during a morning rush hour downpour, overtaking a bus on Jalan Tun Razak and stepping a bit harder on the accelerator didn't even cause any slipping. There's no need to elaborate on the exterior, with the fastback lines and 22-inch wheels; parking at Pavilion instantly grabs attention. The interior features Bang & Olufsen speakers with powerful sound, but that touchscreen gets a bit laggy after being exposed to sunlight for too long; luckily, the HUD saves the day, as you just need a quick glance at the navigation data. On the weekend drive to Johor Bahru, the 4.0T V8's mid-range acceleration when overtaking was super satisfying, but the fuel consumption of over 13 liters per 100 km is a bit high—even with Malaysia's cheap petrol, it's hard to keep stepping on the accelerator every day. The space is ample, with enough room for three friends in the back when heading to Genting, and the fastback trunk can easily fit a golf bag and a suitcase. The only minor gripe: the seat massage is too weak, so for long drives, you'll still need to stretch your back yourself.

Last week, I took my wife and kid to Genting. On the way down the mountain, we encountered heavy rain. The 22-inch tires handled the water accumulation very steadily; quattro is not just for show. The B&O sound system was on, and the massage seats kept my back from feeling sore. However, the kid in the back said it was a bit tight for headroom. The central control screen occasionally lagged, but accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds for overtaking felt amazing. The fuel consumption of 13L is acceptable. The interior quality is good but lacks innovation. I'd rate it 4 stars, and it's well deserved.

This big spoiler looks cool, but every time I go over the speed bump in the neighborhood, I have to be very careful, afraid of scraping it!

Caught in traffic on Kuala Lumpur's elevated highway during rush hour, rain pelting the 22-inch tires with a relentless patter. The B&O sound system in the RS7 drowns out the sound of the rain, while the massage seats work on the back—those 5 points for the interior are well deserved. However, in the downpour, the lane departure warning kept flashing unnecessarily even though the car wasn’t straying off the line, so deducting 1 point for safety isn't unfair. But when the light turned green, the 4.0T's acceleration made the nearby Myvi blur into a shadow. Even in the rain and mist, the hatchback's sleek lines remained eye-catching—those 5 points for the exterior are justified.

Last week, I was stuck on the Kuala Lumpur Outer Ring Road due to heavy rain. The car in front suddenly braked hard; the RS7's all-wheel drive and braking response were as if it had predicted it and stopped steadily. The kids in the back were asleep, the bass of the B&O sound system was still vibrating, but the seat massage made me feel less tired. However, the center control screen had lots of fingerprints, which was a bit annoying. When driving into the mountains, the 4.0T's thrust made the mountain roads feel like a playground, and the 12L fuel consumption was worth it.
