The Chery OMODA E5, as a new entrant in this segment, enters the market with key selling points focused on premium configurations and balanced practicality, boasting a maximum power of 203PS, an official range of 430km, and a price of RM146,800. The objective of this test drive is to verify whether its actual performance matches the on-paper specifications and whether it meets the daily needs of local family users.

Approaching the OMODA E5, its youthful design is immediately apparent at first glance. The overall style leans toward sportiness, with a closed front grille complemented by sharp LED headlight clusters on both sides. The smoked finish within the light clusters and the C-shaped daytime running lights give its front end a highly distinctive look. The side profile features smooth lines, with a waistline extending from the front fenders to the rear, enhancing the sense of depth. The 18-inch multi-spoke wheels add a sporty touch and are well-proportioned with the body. At the rear, the standout feature is the full-width LED tail lights, which provide an even glow when illuminated. For fast charging, it takes 0.5 hours to charge from 30% to 80%, meeting the needs for daily quick energy replenishment. Regarding power consumption, the average energy usage under mixed road conditions is about 14.2kWh/100km, consistent with the official figures.

As for driving comfort, OMODA E5's performance is commendable. Noise control inside the cabin is quite good, with wind and tire noise being minimal during highway driving, so normal conversation inside the car is not affected. No hesitation in overtaking during the morning rush, 7.2 seconds acceleration is powerful! Even with a full rear seat, it's not cramped, and the 483L trunk easily fits two carry-on suitcases. 360-degree imaging + Sony audio system is practical, but the 430 range means you have to conserve power when using the air conditioning in summer.

Last week, I took my family to the orchard at the foot of Genting Mountain. After the heavy rain, the mountain road was slippery, but the 7.2-second acceleration push felt steady during uphill climbs, and cornering was stable without skidding. The 24.6-inch curved screen navigation was clear, and the SONY audio system drowned out the sound of the rain. The family in the back said the air conditioning was cool enough, and the 483L trunk could fit all the camping gear. In terms of safety, the 6 airbags and active braking provided peace of mind, but the lack of a rear seat belt reminder loses 1 point. Fast charging replenishes energy in half an hour, and even in congested urban commuting, there's no pressure. At over 140,000 MYR, it's well worth it.

As an OMODA E5 owner, after driving in Malaysia for three months, I truly feel it's much better than my previous Japanese gasoline car! During the morning rush hour on Jalan Ampang in Kuala Lumpur, the smoothness of the pure electric car totally beats the jerky CVT. The acceleration of 7.2 seconds for overtaking is super thrilling. On weekends, taking the family to the foothills of Genting, ACC cruise control frees my right foot, and the 360-degree camera makes navigating narrow roads worry-free from scratches. The curved screen interior is full of high-tech vibes, and the SONY sound system makes listening to Malay songs incredibly enjoyable. However, the slightly raised floor in the rear middle makes it a bit cramped for three passengers. The safety configurations are top-notch with 6 airbags and active braking. Last time I almost rear-ended the car in front, but the system braked automatically, giving me a strong sense of security. The 430km range is sufficient in West Malaysia, and it can recharge quickly in half an hour, though charging stations aren't as widespread as gas stations, requiring careful route planning for East Malaysia trips. Overall, the value for money is amazing; for over RM140k, this configuration is much better than other EVs in the same class!
