JAC T9 EV 2025 Review

As the market for pure electric pickup trucks in Malaysia continues to heat up, more and more consumers are paying attention to these models that can meet both daily commuting and light cargo needs. The 2025 JAC T9 EV Luxury is a new contender in this niche segment. It not only features a dual-motor four-wheel-drive system but is also equipped with practical configurations such as seven airbags and electric seats. With a price of 199,880 MYR, it is quite competitive among pure electric pickups in the same class. In this test drive, we mainly want to see its actual driving range performance, whether the four-wheel-drive capability satisfies user needs, and how comfortable it is for daily driving.
From the exterior, the T9 EV Luxury maintains the rugged style of a pickup truck. The front adopts a closed design, complemented by a blacked-out frame on the front grille and LED headlight set, offering high recognizability. The side of the vehicle features straight lines, with a wheelbase of 3,110mm. The slightly muscular wheel arches and 265/60 R18 tire specifications strike a balance between off-road capability and highway driving stability. At the rear, the LED taillights employ a through-type design, and there is a black skid plate beneath the rear bumper. The overall styling aligns with pickup users' expectations for a "grand" appearance.
Stepping inside, the interior is mainly dark-toned, featuring a cleanly designed dashboard. The 10.4-inch touchscreen is centrally located, with a clear and straightforward operational logic. It supports Bluetooth connectivity and basic navigation functions. The instrument panel is fully digital, capable of displaying real-time information such as charge levels, driving range, and drive modes. In terms of materials, the upper part of the dashboard is covered with soft-touch materials, which feel decent to the touch. Regarding features, the front seats support electric adjustment, while the rear row is equipped with independent air conditioning vents. The seats throughout the vehicle provide moderate support, making long trips comfortable without causing noticeable fatigue. The space meets expectations, with the front row headroom measuring about a fist and two fingers, and the rear legroom about two fists, offering sufficient room for passengers up to 175cm tall. The rear seats can be manually folded down, improving cargo space passthrough between the cabin and the truck bed, thus making it convenient to place longer items.
For performance, the T9 EV Luxury is equipped with front and rear dual motors, with a total system output of 230kW and a torque rating of 516N·m. The official 0-100km/h acceleration time is 8.4 seconds. In actual driving, the power response at startup is direct, and a light press on the accelerator gives a noticeable push-back sensation. Mid-to-high-speed acceleration is also adequately smooth, enabling overtaking without needing to press the pedal hard. It offers three driving modes: Eco, Standard, and Sport. In Eco mode, the power output is relatively mild, suitable for daily commuting; in Sport mode, the response is more aggressive, ideal for scenarios requiring quick acceleration.
In terms of handling, the steering wheel has moderate weight with minimal slack and clear directional precision. The combination of front double-wishbone and rear multi-link independent suspension performs well on urban roads, effectively absorbing speed bumps or minor jolts. On stretches of continuous bumps, the suspension quickly stabilizes the body. As a four-wheel drive model, we conducted tests on light off-road tracks. On gravel roads and small slopes, the four-wheel drive system effectively distributes power without issues like slipping, offering sufficient capability for light off-road needs.
Regarding range, the official pure electric range is 340km. During our urban mixed-condition tests (with air conditioning at 24℃, economy mode), after driving 280km, there was 15% battery remaining, achieving a range fulfillment rate of approximately 82%, which is considered average. The fast charging time is 0.75 hours (from 30% to 80%), and slow charging takes 8.5 hours, meeting daily recharging needs. In terms of energy consumption, the electricity usage is about 22kWh/100km in urban conditions and approximately 25kWh/100km on highways, which aligns with the standards of electric vehicles in the same segment.
For comfort details, noise control inside the cabin is well-handled. At speeds below 60km/h, the electric motor noise is almost inaudible. At highways speeds of 100km/h, wind and tire noise slightly increase but don’t affect normal conversations. The seat padding is relatively soft with adequate lumbar support, ensuring that long drives are not tiring. The energy recovery system has two adjustable levels. In the lower level, it provides a gliding sensation similar to a fuel-powered car without noticeable drag, making it easier to adapt to.
Overall, the core advantages of the 2025 JAC T9 EV Luxury lie in the practicality of its four-wheel-drive system, spacious interior, and relatively rich configurations. Compared to other pure electric pickup trucks in the same segment, it’s priced lower and offers additional features like electric seats and seven airbags, making it standout in terms of value. However, its range isn’t top-notch in the same class, making it more suitable for daily commuting and light weekend off-roading.
This car is suitable for two groups of people: first, households that need a vehicle for both daily commuting and occasional cargo carrying or light off-roading, and second, young people seeking the silence and acceleration of an electric vehicle while wanting the practicality of a pickup truck. If you have a budget of around 200,000 RMB and are looking for a well-balanced pure electric pickup, the T9 EV Luxury is worth considering.
