In 2017, the luxury mid-size SUV market was highly competitive, and consumers sought both sporty performance and daily practicality. The Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 4MATIC Coupe was precisely aimed at meeting these specific needs. With its AMG-tuned 3.0-liter V6 engine and coupe-style SUV design as its core selling points, it retains the off-road capability of an SUV while delivering acceleration performance close to that of a sports car. This test drive will focus on evaluating its power performance, coupe SUV space practicality, and the balance of AMG models in daily driving, helping readers decide whether it is worth purchasing.

From the exterior, this car's coupe SUV identity is highly recognizable. The front continues the AMG family design, with a large vertical-bar grille paired with the AMG badge. The sharp-shaped LED headlights on both sides and the sporty front bumper with black decorative elements underneath make it look more aggressive. The side profile is sleek, with a significantly sloping roofline starting from the B-pillar, creating a typical coupe stance. The 21-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, paired with 255/40R21 tires in the front and 285/35R21 in the rear, further enhance the sporty feel. The rear design is simple, with quad round exhaust outlets that are signature elements of AMG models, and the LED taillights offer high recognizability when lit. The roof spoiler improves aerodynamic performance.

Inside, the interior design maintains the luxurious feel typical of Mercedes-Benz. The dashboard is covered with soft-touch materials and accented with silver trim details, while AMG-specific badges enhance its exclusivity. The instrument panel features light-up analog styling with clear displays and a well-organized layout, allowing the driver to quickly switch information via the multifunction steering wheel. The 12.3-inch central display is equipped with the MBUX system, supporting touch and voice control, with operational smoothness matching luxury brand standards. In terms of configuration, the front seats support electric adjustment with memory functions, providing excellent support and comfort. The rear seats can be folded down in a 40:20:40 split, enhancing spatial flexibility. Features such as dual-zone automatic climate control, rear independent climate control, keyless entry/start, and 360-degree panoramic cameras are all standard, ensuring high convenience for daily use.

In terms of space, the vehicle dimensions are 4732×1890×1602mm, with a wheelbase of 2873mm, placing it at the mainstream level for coupe SUVs in its class. The front-row seating space is ample, with a tester standing at 175cm having about a fist and two fingers of headroom after adjusting the seat. The rear space is slightly restricted by the sloping roofline, offering roughly one fist of headroom, though legroom remains adequate with about two fists, which is sufficient for basic daily family use. The trunk offers a capacity of 500L, which can be further expanded by folding down the rear seats, accommodating large luggage. However, the sloping design results in a limited trunk opening height, requiring attention when placing taller items.

In terms of power, it is equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 twin-turbocharged engine, delivering a maximum power of 372PS and a peak torque of 520N·m, paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission and a 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system. The official 0-100km/h acceleration is 4.9 seconds. During actual driving, the power response at startup is swift, with a noticeable push-back effect when the turbo kicks in. Mid-range acceleration makes overtaking effortless, with a transmission that has clear shifting logic and proactive downshifts. When switched to Sport mode, the throttle becomes more sensitive, and the exhaust sound grows more robust, enhancing the driving excitement. For daily driving, the Eco mode delivers smooth power output, making it well-suited for urban commuting.

The handling performance aligns with the tuning style of AMG models. The steering wheel is precise, with minimal dead zone and clear road feedback. It feels light at low speeds and stable at high speeds. The suspension system uses a front MacPherson + rear multi-link independent suspension setup, which is tuned to be stiff, sufficiently filtering road bumps while maintaining good support. Body roll is well-controlled when cornering, and the all-wheel-drive system reasonably distributes power to enhance traction, ensuring overall steady handling. The braking system performs excellently, with a combination of front ventilated discs and rear ventilated discs providing linear braking effects, short braking distances, and sufficient confidence.

In terms of fuel consumption, the official combined fuel consumption is 8.9L/100km. In actual driving, fuel consumption is about 11-12L/100km in urban conditions and 7-8L/100km on highways, which aligns with the expectations for a 3.0T engine. Noise control is well-handled; the cabin remains quiet at low speeds in urban driving, while wind and tire noise slightly increase at high speeds but remain within an acceptable range.

Overall, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC 43 4MATIC Coupe combines sporty performance with luxury appeal, leading its class in terms of power performance, handling, and feature levels. Compared to competitors in the same class, such as the BMW X4 M40i, it has advantages in brand prestige and feature richness, though the rear space and practicality slightly lag behind traditional SUVs.

This car is suitable for consumers who value sporty performance and luxurious appeal, especially young families or individual users. It can meet daily family needs while also providing driving enjoyment during weekends. If you are looking for a luxury coupe SUV that balances performance and practicality, it is worth considering.

In summary, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC 43 4MATIC Coupe is a well-rounded luxury coupe SUV with strong power, precise handling, and rich features. Although the rear space is slightly insufficient, its overall competitiveness in the same class is strong, making it an ideal combination of sportiness and practicality.

This fastback design is awesome! Every time I drive out, people take a look, the head-turning rate is maxed out, so satisfying!

Last week, I took my family to the tea plantation at the foot of Genting Mountain. After the heavy rain, the mountain roads were slippery, but the 4MATIC was steady like flying close to the ground—3.0T V6 unleashed its torque at just 2500 rpm. During overtaking, using the paddle shifters to downshift gave an immediate thrust, turning my kid's screams in the back seat into laughter. However, climbing uphill pushed the rpm to 5500, and while the engine's roar was rich, the fuel consumption also jumped to 12L/100km, significantly higher than the official 8.9L. The 21-inch tires paired with the multi-link suspension provided solid cornering support, but when hitting road bumps, passengers in the rear still needed to hold onto their cups. The interior is truly impeccable—with Nappa leather seats and memory function, the heated steering wheel warmed up in just 10 seconds on a rainy day. The dual-zone air conditioning set to 22 degrees kept the kid's snack bags dry in the back seat. In terms of safety, last week on Kuala Lumpur’s Jalan Ampang during a traffic jam, the emergency braking system intervened when the car in front braked suddenly. The 7 airbags gave me the confidence to take my parents on long trips. However, the 2017 model lacks L2 assisted driving, so you still need to stay alert when following cars on the highway, which is a downside. As for the exterior, the fastback design turned heads on the old streets of George Town, Penang. The LED headlights automatically turned on at dusk, ensuring full visibility. However, the 285/35R21 rear tires are too thin—last time I didn’t slow down on a speed bump, and the tire got a bulge, which cost me RM1800 to replace. It was painful! After using it for half a year, the performance is strong but with higher fuel consumption. The interior has a luxurious feel, safety features are practical, and the exterior is eye-catching, though you need to be careful with the tires. Overall, it's an “all-rounder” suitable for urban commuting with occasional adventures, but to be a perfect family car, you'll need to accept its little quirks.

Previously, I drove a regular SUV, but I switched to this AMG GLC Coupe 43, completely drawn by its fastback design and the power of the 3.0T V6 engine—during Kuala Lumpur's morning rush hour traffic on Jalan Ampang, stepping hard on the accelerator allows for an instant surge forward, and its 0-100 km/h acceleration in 4.9 seconds makes it super agile in traffic. The interior features leather and metal trim with a great texture, but the headroom in the rear is a bit cramped due to the fastback design, and it can feel tiring for someone 180cm tall after a long ride. On weekends driving through the mountain roads to Genting Highlands, the 4MATIC's road grip is very stable, and there’s no skidding during cornering; however, the city fuel consumption is around 12L/100km, which is much higher than the official 8.9L, and with Malaysia's rising fuel prices, it does pinch a little. Overall, it’s still worth it, as both performance and luxury are on point!

I used to drive a Japanese SUV and always felt it lacked some "power" until I came across this GLC 43 Coupe! Safety gets a full 5-star rating—during the morning rush hour near KLCC, the active braking suddenly kicked in and helped me stop in time, avoiding a motorbike cutting in. With 7 airbags and a 360-degree camera, parking in the narrow alleys of Jalan Bukit Bintang is super reassuring. Interior gets 5 stars without question; Mercedes' quality far surpasses my old car, and the dual-zone air conditioning cools super fast in Kuala Lumpur's 35-degree heat. Minor drawbacks: fuel consumption of 8.9L/100km can sting a bit when fuel prices rise in Malaysia, and you need to drive slowly over rural speed bumps with the 21-inch low-profile tires. But driving on the North-South Expressway over the weekend, the 3.0T + 4MATIC makes overtaking incredibly satisfying. The trunk can fit all the luggage for a family trip to Penang—I have no regrets choosing this car!

This GLC 43 Coupe has been driven for several years, accelerates swiftly during highway overtaking, and does 0-100 km/h in 4.9 seconds, which is powerful. On rainy days, the 4MATIC provides exceptional stability, and the 360 cameras make parking easier. However, the 3.0T fuel consumption is a bit high, and the interior buttons occasionally get stuck. But with full safety features, it’s reliable for family use and carrying kids.
