In the luxury mid-size coupe SUV segment, consumers often need to find a balance between sporty performance, daily practicality, and brand appeal. The 2022 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC Coupe 43 4MATIC Coupe (CKD) is designed to meet this demand. As a CKD locally produced model, it retains AMG's sporty DNA while being more competitively priced compared to the earlier CBU version, with targeted configuration upgrades. This test drive will focus on verifying whether its static quality meets luxury positioning, whether its dynamic performance continues AMG's driving pleasure, and whether its daily usefulness meets expectations.

At first glance, the coupe SUV's sloping roofline is its most recognizable feature. The curve transitions smoothly from the B-pillar to the rear of the car, retaining the stability of an SUV while exuding the agility of a sports car. The front features AMG's signature vertical-bar grille, paired with sharp LED headlight clusters on both sides. The daytime running lights inside the headlights are styled like the three-pointed star emblem, offering high recognition when illuminated. Alongside the vehicle, 21-inch large wheels paired with 255/40 R21 front tires and 285/35 R21 rear tires further enhance the sporty stance, while muscular lines around the wheel arches add a sense of power. At the rear, the dual round quad-exhaust pipes are a classic AMG design, complemented by a slightly raised spoiler for a full and aggressive visual effect.

Entering the cabin, the interior adopts black as the main color tone, paired with metallic trim and piano lacquer panels. Soft leather is widely used for wrapping, giving the surfaces a fine texture. The center console layout is simple, with the 10.25-inch touch control screen tilted towards the driver for easier operation. The fully digital instrument panel offers clear displays and supports various theme modes, including AMG-specific performance interfaces that can display real-time data such as torque and horsepower. For configuration, the front seats support electric adjustment, memory functions, and come with heating and ventilation features to ensure comfort during long drives. The rear seats can be folded down in a 40:20:40 ratio, allowing for considerable flexibility. Additionally, keyless entry, 360-degree panoramic cameras, and automatic parking are all standard features, maximizing daily convenience.

In terms of space, the car's length, width, and height are 4732mm, 1890mm, and 1602mm respectively, with a wheelbase of 2873mm, ranking at mainstream levels among competitors. The front row provides ample room, with a 180cm tall passenger having a fist of headroom after adjusting the seat position. The rear legroom measures approximately two fists, though the sloping roof design slightly compresses headroom, yet a normal seating posture won't feel cramped. In terms of storage capabilities, the trunk has a standard capacity of 500 liters, which can be further expanded by folding down the rear seats, enough to fit strollers or suitcases. The front center armrest box and door panel storage compartments offer sufficient space for daily use, and the front cabin also includes a 220V/230V power outlet for additional device connectivity.

For power performance, it is equipped with a 3.0L V6 turbocharged engine that delivers a maximum horsepower of 390PS and a maximum torque starting from 2500rpm. It is paired with an AT transmission and a 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system. During actual driving, the power responds quickly at startup without any noticeable turbo lag. Pressing the accelerator deeply provides sustained and linear thrust, achieving an official 0-100km/h acceleration time of 4.9 seconds, which instills confidence during overtaking or highway cruising. The driving mode switch function is practical. In Eco mode, throttle response is more gentle, suitable for city commutes, whereas in Sport mode, the transmission's shift logic becomes more aggressive, with revs maintained at a higher range and power instantly available.

In terms of handling, the steering wheel responds precisely with minimal play. It feels steady at high speeds and relatively light at low speeds, balancing both handling and convenience. The front and rear multi-link independent suspension is tuned towards sportiness while retaining a certain level of comfort. When driving over speed bumps or rough roads, the suspension quickly absorbs vibrations without any harsh feedback. During cornering, the body roll is well-controlled, and the four-wheel-drive system distributes torque appropriately to maintain vehicle stability. The braking performance is excellent, with the ventilated disc brakes delivering linear braking force. The vehicle remains stable during sudden braking, inspiring confidence.

In terms of fuel consumption, the official combined fuel consumption is 8.9L/100km. During actual test drives, the city fuel consumption is approximately 10-11L/100km, while on highways it can drop to 7-8L/100km. Considering its 3.0T engine displacement and sporty orientation, this performance is within an acceptable range. Regarding driving comfort, the cabin's noise control is commendable, with minimal wind and tire noise during highway driving. The seats offer good support and cushioning, ensuring that even long drives are not fatiguing. The intervention of the engine start-stop technology is smooth, with no noticeable abruptness.

Overall, the 2022 AMG GLC Coupe 43 CKD's core advantage lies in its balance: compared to the 2018 CBU version, it lowers the price through local production while upgrading features like a fully digital instrument cluster and front ventilated seats. Compared to competitors in the same segment, such as the BMW X4 M40i, it offers richer configurations and more competitive pricing. This car is suitable for young consumers who value driving pleasure, while its spacious space and comfortable features meet daily needs for family users. If you are looking for a luxurious coupe SUV that combines AMG's sporty DNA with practicality for family use, this is a great choice.

Every morning rush hour, I squeeze through traffic with the 3.0T engine responding instantly, overtaking effortlessly; on rainy days, the 4MATIC feels as stable as being glued to the road. Three buddies sitting in the back won't feel cramped; just be cautious with the 21-inch tires when going over speed bumps — but with this fastback design, the head-turn rate when parked by the roadside is unbeatable!

Previously, I drove the standard GLC. After switching to this GLC 43 Coupe, every time I parked in front of Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, the head-turn rate hit the max—sleek coupe lines paired with 21-inch wheels, which suits my taste better than the same-class X4 M40i. During the morning rush hour on Jalan Bukit Bintang, the 3.0T+4MATIC delivers a non-sluggish start and stable overtaking, but the low-speed gear shifts occasionally feel jerky. On weekends driving up to Genting Highlands, the chassis support feels significantly firmer than the standard version, giving plenty of confidence in cornering. However, the rear headroom can feel a bit tight for friends taller than 175cm. Fuel consumption can hit 12L in city traffic jams, much higher than the official 8.9L, but who cares about that when buying an AMG? Overall, the balance of looks and performance is very much suited to the taste of Malaysian drivers, though the maintenance cost is indeed pricier than a regular Mercedes.

Previously, I drove the standard version of the GLC, but after switching to the AMG GLC Coupe 43, I finally understand what "the soul of a performance SUV" means— the 3.0T six-cylinder engine in Kuala Lumpur's morning rush hour makes overtaking a breeze. The resilience when stepping hard on the accelerator feels way better than the 2.0T, and the 4.9 seconds 0-100 km/h acceleration gives great confidence when overtaking on the highway. As for safety, there's really nothing to complain about: 7 airbags + a full suite of active safety features. Last time on the LDP highway, the car in front suddenly braked hard, and the active braking system kicked in directly. It gave me a scare but stopped steadily. However, there are downsides too: the 21-inch low-profile tires are too bumpy for Malaysia's rough roads (like the potholes on Jalan Ampang). You have to slow down to a crawl when going over speed bumps. The fuel consumption is also higher than the official 8.9L; it can go up to 12L in city traffic jams. But as a coupe balancing family use and performance, the 4 points for performance and 5 points for safety are well deserved, and I'm thoroughly impressed!

Previously, I drove a regular SUV, and it always felt like it lacked "punch." After switching to this AMG GLC 300 Coupe, I can effortlessly weave through the morning rush-hour traffic in Kuala Lumpur with just a light press of the accelerator. Its explosive power, going from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds, is especially satisfying during high-speed overtakes — last week, on the way to Penang, mid-range acceleration made overtaking super smooth. The Burmester sound system paired with the panoramic sunroof makes the interior stand out. On weekends, taking the family to Genting Highlands, the all-wheel drive feels incredibly stable during uphill climbs, and the rear seat space is more than sufficient for kids to move around. However, there are some downsides: the 21-inch tires feel bumpy on rural roads in Malaysia, and the fuel consumption of 10.7 liters per 100 km is quite painful during city traffic jams. But in terms of performance and luxury, this "big toy" truly has no rival in its price range!

Previously, I was driving a standard SUV. After switching to this AMG GLC Coupe 43, every time I'm stuck in traffic during the morning rush hour on Jalan Tun Razak in Kuala Lumpur, the 3.0T power is always on call, making overtaking effortless, and the 4MATIC provides excellent stability on wet roads during rainy days. I would give the safety configuration a full score of 5; with 7 airbags and active braking, it once stopped me from rear-ending the car ahead, leaving me in a cold sweat. I'd give the interior a 4; it's luxurious enough, but the rear seat space is slightly smaller than the regular GLC. When taking the family to Genting Highlands over the weekend, my wife mentioned it felt a bit cramped after sitting for a long time. However, the coupe design is incredibly stylish. Parking it under the Petronas Twin Towers gets a lot of attention, so I'm willing to overlook these minor shortcomings.
