MINI Convertible 2025 Review

In the current Malaysian B-segment car market, there are not many choices of models that combine driving pleasure and convertible personality. Young consumers and small family users often have to compromise between practicality and unique experiences. The arrival of the 2025 MINI Convertible Cooper perfectly fills this gap—it not only retains MINI's iconic retro design but also features upgraded 2.0T power and comprehensive intelligent configurations, while also optimizing space practicality. In this test drive, we focus on verifying whether it can balance the two major demands of "fun" and "practicality" in daily commuting and weekend outings.
In terms of appearance, the 2025 MINI Convertible Cooper continues the classic rounded silhouette, but the details are more refined. The front still features the combination of large round headlights and a vertical-slat front grille, and the LED daytime running lights use a circular design, achieving high recognizability when lit; the side body lines are smooth, and the 3879mm length paired with the 1744mm width provides a compact yet unconstrained proportion. The inclusion of 18-inch wheels enhances its sporty feel; the rear LED taillights also adopt a circular design, echoing the headlights, and when the soft-top convertible is retracted, the rear lines become cleaner and more streamlined. The overall style is both retro and stylish, making it a head-turner on the road.
Sitting inside, the interior design style is consistent with the exterior, dominated by circular elements, with the core being a MINI OLED circular display. It features high resolution, smooth operation, supports Bluetooth, CarPlay, and other functions, and most vehicle settings can be completed through this screen. The interior materials are solid, and the dashboard and door panels are wrapped in soft-touch materials, providing a comfortable feel. The seats are electrically adjustable, with the front seats offering good support and wrapping, ensuring comfortable seating for extended periods. In terms of configuration, the HUD head-up display, Harman Kardon surround sound system, and automatic air conditioning are all standard, balancing practicality and luxury. Regarding space, the 2495mm wheelbase is at the mainstream level for B-segment cars. The front row offers spacious seating space, with sufficient headroom and legroom for passengers up to 175cm tall. The rear seating space is relatively compact and suitable for short trips, but the rear seats support a 60:40 split-folding, which can expand trunk space. The trunk has a regular capacity of 160L, which, when folded down, can meet storage needs for daily shopping or short trips.
Its dynamic performance is a highlight of this car. Equipped with a 2.0T turbocharged engine, it delivers a maximum horsepower of 204PS and a maximum torque of 300N·m, paired with a 7-speed AT gearbox for responsive power. At startup, the throttle pedal is sensitively tuned, providing good acceleration with light input. During acceleration, the gearbox shifts smoothly without noticeable jerks. The maximum power range of 5000-6500rpm ensures strong mid-to-late acceleration, with an official 0-100km/h acceleration time of 6.9 seconds, making overtaking easy during actual driving. In terms of handling, the combination of front MacPherson independent suspension and rear multi-link independent suspension is tuned toward sportiness. The steering is precise with minimal play, and body roll is well-controlled during cornering, instilling confidence in the driver. On bumpy roads, the suspension can filter out most minor vibrations, keeping the body stable while retaining some road feedback, striking a balance between handling and comfort.
In terms of fuel consumption, the official combined fuel consumption is 6.6L/100km. During the actual test drive, the fuel consumption was approximately 7.5L/100km in urban conditions and about 6L/100km on highways, performing moderately. Noise control is pretty good; wind and tire noise at high speeds remain within an acceptable range and do not affect in-car conversations among passengers. Regarding safety features, 6 airbags, lane change assist, lane departure warning system, active braking, etc., are all standard. The 360-degree parking camera system and automatic parking function make parking more convenient.
Overall, the 2025 MINI Convertible Cooper has notable performance in design, power, and features. Compared to other B-segment cars of the same level, its convertible design and sporty handling are its biggest advantages. At the same time, it comes with rich configurations and offers good value for money. It is suitable for consumers who value driving fun, pursue individuality, and also need a certain level of practicality, such as young couples or small families. It can meet the needs of daily commuting or weekend outings. If you are looking for a B-segment car that is both fun and practical, this model is worth considering.
