Chery Automobile Co. Ltd., commonly known as Chery, is a Chinese state-owned automobile manufacturer based in Wuhu, Anhui, China. Established in 1997, it holds the position as the ninth largest automobile manufacturer in China, producing 1,232,727 vehicles in 2022. Specializing in passenger cars, minivans, and SUVs, Chery markets its passenger cars under the Chery brand and commercial vehicles under the Karry brand. The company commenced automobile production in 1999 and began exporting vehicles from China in 2001. Notably, Chery has been China's leading passenger car exporter since 2003, consistently exporting a significant portion of its production. In 2011, Chery entered a 50:50 joint venture with Kenon Holdings, establishing Qoros in 2007. This joint venture focuses on selling premium vehicles in emerging markets. Furthermore, in 2012, Chery collaborated with Jaguar Land Rover to form a joint venture named Chery Jaguar Land Rover for the production of Jaguar and Land Rover cars in China. Chery's global influence is evident, with the company being the top exporter of Chinese brand passenger vehicles since 2002. In 2022, it exported 451,337 vehicles, maintaining its position as a major player in the international automotive market. Notably, in May 2023, Chery achieved a milestone by exporting 74,056 vehicles in a single month, marking its highest monthly export figure. The company's manufacturing capabilities extend beyond China, with overseas assembly plants producing vehicles for export markets. Chery allocates substantial resources to research and development, boasting two domestic R&D centers and investing approximately 7% of its total revenues in product development.
