[PCauto] Chery’s electric vehicle sub-brand iCAR is set to launch the new iCAR V27 on August 1, marking its global debut in Dubai. At the same time, the model will introduce a new brand identity under the name iCAUR.

Back in May, Chery submitted a trademark application for “iCAUR” to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Industry insiders widely believe this rebranding aims to avoid potential trademark conflicts with Apple’s “iCar” project, paving the way for smoother entry into international markets.

The V27 carries forward iCAR’s signature design DNA

Since the inception of the iCAR brand, its models have stood out with bold and unconventional styling—and the new V27 continues that legacy.

In teaser images released by iCAR, the all-terrain pure electric SUV reveals its rugged personality: a distinctive boxy silhouette, off-road tires, and a roof rack, all point to its outdoor-oriented character. The model is expected to feature Chery’s latest 800V high-voltage platform, with a projected range exceeding 600 km. This would significantly boost its practicality for long-distance adventures.

According to information from other sources, the V27 faithfully continues iCAR’s signature rugged design language. The front end features a classic combination of round headlights and a rectangular grille, while the straight body lines extend all the way to the rear. A practical side-hinged tailgate further enhances its utilitarian appeal.

A key highlight at the rear is the externally mounted storage box, which not only boosts practicality but also reinforces the SUV’s off-road character. With a ground clearance of over 180 mm and large all-terrain tires, the new model offers impressive off-road capability.

This design philosophy is in line with the rest of the iCAR lineup. From the compact SUV iCAR 03 to the rugged-style V23, the brand consistently embraces the signature boxy silhouette. The retro version of the V23 pushes the off-road aesthetic even further with features like an external spare tire.

The V27 is expected to adopt a range-extended electric powertrain, paired with a LiDAR system.

The setup combines a 1.5T range extender with an electric motor, delivering a maximum output of up to 335 kW for the all-wheel-drive variant. In pure electric mode, the vehicle offers a range of approximately 200 km, while the combined range with the fuel-powered extender exceeds 1,000 km.

In terms of intelligent driving, the V27 will be equipped with the Hesai ATX LiDAR system, which offers a detection range of up to 200 meters. It supports terrain prediction and intelligent off-road features such as automatic torque distribution.

The V27 is scheduled to launch in the fourth quarter of this year.

Choosing Dubai as the site of its global debut carries significant strategic weight. In the first half of 2024, the region’s rugged electric SUV segment saw explosive growth, with a year-on-year increase of 47%.

As the commercial hub of the Middle East, Dubai has become a key gateway for Chinese EV brands expanding globally. So far this year, six Chinese automakers—including BYD and NIO—have chosen to unveil new models in the city.

By launching the V27 in Dubai, iCAR not only targets the region’s surging demand for rugged electric vehicles but also aims to use the Middle East as a corner stone for its broader global expansion strategy.
