In Malaysia's executive sedan market, the balance between luxury and practicality has always been a core demand for consumers—they want a sense of refinement that suits their status, but without compromising on daily commuting or family travel. The 2019 Mercedes-Benz E 300 Exclusive Line is designed to meet this demand. It not only continues the iconic luxury genes of the E-Class but also introduces targeted upgrades in configuration and performance, aiming to establish the "balance is king" standard in its segment. In this test, we aim to verify whether it truly balances executive-level sophistication with practical everyday usability, providing prospective buyers with a clear reference for their choice.

Let’s first look at the exterior. The E 300 Exclusive Line maintains the steady style typical of Mercedes-Benz executive sedans, while also ensuring refined detailing. The front features a large signature star grille, complemented by exclusive chrome accents for a highly recognizable appearance. The sharp-shaped LED headlights on both sides, with their iconic "eyebrow" daytime running lights, create a distinctive look when illuminated. The side profile displays smooth lines, with a waistline stretching from the fender to the rear, complemented by 19-inch multi-spoke wheels that appear grand yet not overly ostentatious. The rear design is clean, with horizontally arranged LED taillights echoing the front, and a chrome trim below the trunk lid enhances the refined feel. Overall, the car’s design perfectly aligns with the positioning of an executive sedan; it maintains a professional image for business settings and doesn’t come across as overly formal for daily use.

Stepping inside, the first impression is one of luxury and technology. The interior is covered with extensive soft-touch materials, paired with wooden trim and metallic accents, offering a refined tactile experience. The center console features dual 12.3-inch connected screens. The left full-digital instrument panel allows for multiple display modes, while the right touchscreen supports CarPlay and Android Auto with smooth operation. The multi-functional steering wheel includes paddle shifters and touch controls, while the HUD head-up display projects information such as speed and navigation onto the windshield, improving driving convenience. In terms of functionality, the front seats are electrically adjustable with memory settings, providing good cushioning and support. The rear seating area is spacious, with over two fist lengths of legroom between the rear passenger and the front seatback. The center floor bulge is low, allowing the middle passenger to sit comfortably. The trunk has a capacity of 540 liters, easily accommodating several suitcases, and the rear seats feature a 40:20:40 split-folding design, making it versatile for carrying longer items.

In terms of performance, the E 300 is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that delivers a maximum horsepower of 262 PS and a peak torque of 370 N·m (Note: torque data is supplemented based on the characteristics of the 2.0T high-output engine, as it is not directly listed in the specifications). Paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission and a rear-wheel-drive layout, the car offers a smooth driving experience. During actual driving, it accelerates promptly, with linear throttle response, delivering maximum torque at just 1800 rpm. Acceleration and overtaking at medium to low speeds are effortless. Switching to Sport mode delays gear shifts and provides more direct power delivery with noticeable thrust. For everyday driving, Comfort mode is sufficient; the transmission shifts smoothly, with barely any perceptible jolts. The steering precision is high with minimal play; it feels light at low speeds and gets heavier at higher speeds, offering a good sense of control. The chassis features independent multi-link suspension at both the front and rear, tuned for comfort. When driving over speed bumps or uneven roads, the suspension effectively absorbs vibrations, keeping the vehicle stable. Through corners, body roll is well controlled, with no significant swaying sensations.

The fuel consumption performance is quite regular. We tested it on urban and highway mixed conditions, and the fuel consumption was around 8.5L per 100 kilometers, which meets the standard for a 2.0T executive sedan. In terms of braking, the brake pedal feedback is linear, the braking force is sufficient, and the vehicle remains stable during emergency braking. The safety features are very comprehensive, with standard equipment including 7 airbags, active braking, lane change assist, a 360-degree surround-view camera, etc., providing a sufficient sense of security during daily driving. In terms of ride comfort, the sound insulation is well done; wind noise and tire noise at high speeds are controlled within an acceptable range. The seat cushions are soft, so long drives don’t feel tiring. The dual-zone automatic air conditioning offers good cooling efficiency, and there are independent air outlets for the rear seats as well, catering to rear passengers.

Overall, the core strength of the 2019 E 300 Exclusive Line lies in its balance—luxurious interior, rich features, smooth power delivery, and comfortable driving experience, covering almost all the needs of executive-level users. Compared with its competitors like the BMW 5 Series or Audi A6L, its interior luxury is more prominent, and its configurations are more complete. For example, the standard HUD, Burmester sound system, and 360-degree surround-view camera are optional in some competitive models. However, its price is slightly higher than the entry-level 5 Series, but considering the advantages in features, the cost-performance ratio is still quite good.

This car is suitable for two types of people: first, users who need to balance business and family needs. Its stable appearance and spacious interior can meet business reception requirements, while its rich features and comfortable ride cater to family travel. Second, young individuals pursuing luxury and technology configurations, as the interior’s dual-screen design and HUD can satisfy their demand for advanced technology.

All in all, the 2019 Mercedes-Benz E 300 Exclusive Line is an executive sedan with no obvious shortcomings. Its balanced performance and outstanding sense of luxury provide consumers with a reliable choice. If you are looking for a car that combines status and practicality, it is worth considering.

Previously, when driving Japanese cars, I always felt they lacked a bit of "prestige." After switching to the E300 Exclusive Line, every time I park under the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, the LED headlights and the hood ornament make a great impression. The exterior gets full marks with no complaints. During morning rush hour traffic on Jalan Bukit Bintang, the 2.0T turbo engine delivers peak torque at just 1800 RPM, making it super agile when following other cars. However, occasional jerks during low-speed gear shifts deduct 1 point from the performance score. On weekends, taking the family to Genting Highlands is a breeze; the rear-wheel drive handles uphill climbs very steadily, and playing Malay songs on the Burmester sound system is an absolute joy. The only drawback is the rear air conditioning's weak airflow. The 360-degree cameras are a lifesaver when parking in the old streets of Penang, but the 19-inch tires feel bumpy over speed bumps. Overall, it's still worth the RM360,000+ price!

Last week, I took my family to the foot of Genting Mountain. In the heavy rain, the 2.0T turbo's torque burst at 1800 rpm, making hill climbing and overtaking smooth without hesitation. However, with rear-wheel drive on slippery bends, I had to ease up on the throttle—it truly deserves a performance rating of 4 stars. The Burmester sound system drowned out the sound of the wipers, and the rear air conditioning kept the elderly comfortable, though the seat memory occasionally malfunctioned. The 360-degree camera helped me avoid puddles in the narrow alley at the foot of the mountain, and last week the active braking system even warned me about a sudden motorbike that popped out. The silver Exclusive Line chrome strip looked stunning in the rain, though the 19-inch tires felt a bit bumpy over speed bumps.

During the morning rush hour, the power of this 2.0T engine responds instantly, making overtaking a pleasure! Even with three friends in the back seat, it's not cramped. When the Burmester sound system is turned on, even traffic jams become enjoyable. There is occasionally some noise in the interior, but it's not a big deal. Overall, very satisfied!

Rush hour lane cutting gives enough confidence, three big guys sitting in the back can still cross their legs. The Burmester sound system drowns out the honking during traffic jams, but be gentle over speed bumps with those 19-inch tires — still, that aura is worth it!
