The competition in the executive sedan market is becoming increasingly intense. Consumers not only pursue a sense of solemnity for business occasions but also value driving dynamics and technological configurations for daily use. The 2025 BMW 530i M Sport, as a new contender in this segment, has attracted a lot of attention since its launch with improved power parameters, upgraded intelligent configurations, and the classic M Sport package design. This time, we got a test drive vehicle, with the core purpose of verifying whether its power enhancement lives up to the claims, whether its static experience matches its positioning as an executive sedan, and whether its overall performance in daily driving surpasses that of the previous generation.

In terms of appearance, the 2025 530i M Sport retains the family design language but features details that are more dynamic. The front face adopts a large dual-kidney grille, complemented by bright black trim surrounds. The sharply styled LED headlights have a clear internal lamp chamber structure, which makes them highly recognizable when lit. The body has smooth side lines, with a waistline extending from the front fender to the rear, enhancing the muscular feel. The 20-inch dual-tone multi-spoke wheels paired with front 245/40 R20 and rear 275/35 R20 wide tires further highlight the sporty stance. At the rear, the LED taillights feature a smoked finish, echoing the headlights. The dual-sided dual-exit exhaust layout with diffuser accents gives the rear a more aggressive look. The overall design retains the steadiness of an executive sedan while injecting youthful vitality through the M package.

Sitting inside, the luxurious and high-tech ambience is significantly enhanced. The dashboard is wrapped in large areas of soft-touch materials, combined with metal trims and piano black panels for a refined tactile experience. The 12.3-inch full digital instrument cluster and the 14.9-inch central infotainment screen form a dual-screen layout. The interface is smooth and clear, supporting gesture control and voice recognition, making it convenient to operate. The multifunctional steering wheel is equipped with paddle shifters, and the HUD head-up display function projects information such as speed and navigation onto the windshield, enhancing driving convenience. The seats are wrapped in genuine leather, with the front seats offering electric adjustment. The rear row comes with independent air conditioning vents and USB ports. The rear seats can be folded down in a 40:20:40 split to expand cargo space. In terms of storage, the center armrest box has moderate capacity, and the door panel storage compartments can hold large water bottles, making it quite practical overall.

Regarding space performance, the car measures 5060mm in length, 1900mm in width, and 1515mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2900mm. The front row offers ample space, with a passenger of 180cm height having a fist-width headroom when the seat is adjusted properly. The rear row provides more than two fists of legroom and about a fist of headroom, ensuring that even three passengers seated in the back won't feel crowded. The trunk has a capacity of 520L, which can easily fit three 20-inch suitcases, meeting the needs of family trips or business use.

In terms of power, the 2025 530i M Sport is equipped with a 2.0T turbocharged engine + 48V mild hybrid system, delivering a combined maximum power of 258PS and a peak torque of 400N·m, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive setup. During actual driving, a light press on the accelerator during startup offers evident power response, with the 48V mild hybrid system effectively reducing turbo lag. Switching to Sport mode enhances throttle sensitivity and accelerates shift response, achieving an official 0-100km/h acceleration time of 6.2 seconds. In actual tests, the push-back feeling is pronounced, and stepping hard on the accelerator delivers immediate power output for overtaking with ease. In Comfort mode for daily driving, power delivery is smooth, making it suitable for urban commuting.

The handling performance continues BMW's rear-wheel drive advantage, with front double wishbone and rear multi-link independent suspension tuned towards sportiness, while retaining a certain level of comfort. The steering wheel offers precise steering with minimal play, and maintains good stability at high speeds. When cornering, body roll is well-controlled, and the suspension provides ample support, giving the driver enough confidence. When dealing with bumpy roads, the suspension filters out most of the fine vibrations, retaining only light road feedback, balancing both handling and comfort.

In terms of fuel consumption, the official combined fuel consumption is 7.1L/100km. In actual urban driving, fuel consumption is about 8.5L/100km, and it can drop to 6.8L/100km under highway conditions. For a 2.0T rear-wheel drive model, its fuel economy is at the medium level among competitors. The braking performance is excellent, with front and rear ventilated disc brakes responding sensitively. During emergency braking, the vehicle remains stable, and the braking distance is relatively short.

As for driving comfort, the noise suppression inside the car is well-handled, with wind and tire noise being unobtrusive at high speeds. The seats provide moderate wrapping and support, making long-distance driving less fatiguing. Features such as automatic parking and a 360-degree panoramic camera system make parking simple, allowing even novice drivers to handle it with ease.

Overall, the main strengths of the 2025 BMW 530i M Sport lie in its significant power enhancement, rich configurations, and balance between handling and comfort. Compared to the 2024 BMW 520i M Sport, it has higher power output, larger wheel size, and an upgraded Bowers & Wilkins audio system with 18 speakers instead of 12, offering better value for money. Compared to the 2021 BMW 530i M Sport, the new model has significantly improved tech features and interior quality, with a slightly lower price by 3,000 MYR, making it more competitive.

This car is suitable for business professionals who value performance and technological features, as well as family users who enjoy driving. It meets the comfort needs of daily commuting while also providing some driving excitement on weekends, making it one of the more balanced choices among executive sedans.

In conclusion, the 2025 BMW 530i M Sport reinforces its position in the executive sports sedan market through upgrades in power, features, and design, making it a model worth considering.

Pros
Braking feedback is solid, vehicle stability is strong, and safety on slippery road surfaces is high
Inline-six or 2.0T engine delivers strong power, with excellent performance in starting, overtaking, and climbing
Classic exterior design (shark nose/shark head) has high recognition, offering more retro charm compared to newer models
Cons
The air conditioning cools slowly, requiring it to be turned on in advance; the car interior becomes stuffy after being exposed to the sun.
The rear seats are relatively hard, making long-distance rides tiring; some models can't fold the seats down, affecting storage space.
Some models have noticeable tire noise, and the tires lack sufficient grip on wet roads, making the car prone to skidding.

Last week, I took my wife and kids to the orchard at the foot of Yunding Mountain. As soon as we turned onto the mountain road, we encountered sudden heavy rain, and the road surface was as slippery as oil. When I slammed on the brakes, the brake pedal feedback of the old BMW was incredibly solid, and the body of the car was exceptionally stable, without a hint of skidding — this level of safety deserves a full 5 points, no exaggeration. The rain was so heavy that the rearview mirror was barely visible. My wife reached out to adjust the passenger seat’s knob-style air conditioner, and the tactile feel of the wooden paneling was much more satisfying than the plastic screen in new electric cars. The interior design also deserves a full 5 points, showcasing the durability and quality of an old car.

Previously, I drove an old locally-assembled Proton Saga. Its power was as soft as the runny yolk in nasi lemak, and overtaking trucks on the highway was nerve-wracking. After switching to this '75 5 Series with its straight-six engine, it feels powerful with just a tap on the pedal. Maneuvering through traffic during Kuala Lumpur’s morning rush hour is even more nimble than riding a motorbike. On weekends when driving up Genting’s winding roads, the chassis feels planted to the ground, and the car’s handling around corners is steadier than me drinking teh tarik. The exterior features the classic shark nose design. When parked in front of an old kopitiam on Petaling Street, people often come up and ask about its year—it has way more character than the newer 5 Series. As for safety, it has one more front crash beam compared to the Saga but no airbags, so let’s generously give it 4 points. A minor issue is the air-conditioning, which cools down slowly. On a 35-degree day in Kuala Lumpur, you have to start it 10 minutes in advance. But old cars are like a cup of kopi—you have to wait for it to cool down. No rushing it.

This old BMW has been running for nearly twenty years, yet it's still super stable when overtaking on the highway and doesn't skid while cornering on rainy days. The only thing is, the air conditioning needs to be turned on ten minutes in advance, or it'll feel like a sauna inside. However, even with three buddies in the back, it's not cramped, and mountain drives on weekends are a blast!

Last week, I took my family to the orchard at the foot of Genting Mountain. The mountain road, which had just seen rain, was slippery and winding. The M Sport kit’s side skirts and 19-inch wheels indeed caught the eye, even the tea stall owner took a second look as we passed by. However, when going uphill, the 2.0T turbo lagged for half a second, and torque only kicked in at 1450 rpm, nearly causing us to fall far behind the car ahead. The rear seats were quite hard, and my wife said her back started aching after just half an hour. Going downhill, the braking was stable, but the 275 wide tires still skidded a bit over puddles. Fuel consumption? It can go up to 10 liters in city traffic, while it’s about 6 on highways, which is quite a bit higher than the official 5.8.

Took my family for a weekend trip to the foot of Yunping Mountain last week. Encountered a heavy rain on the return trip; the mountain roads had many curves and were quite congested. The genuine leather seats of the old 5-series wrapped around the waist nicely, the wood grain trim felt cool to the touch, and the central control knob turned smoothly—this interior still looks new even after half a year, worth a solid 5 points. However, the car paint is thin, and the wipers left marks, so I'll deduct 1 point for the exterior. That said, the 2.0T engine didn't falter when climbing slopes, which felt reliable to drive.
