2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 4Matic Review

Nowadays, the competition in Malaysia's luxury mid-size SUV market is fierce. The BBA trio each has its own supporters. Many family users and young consumers desire brand quality while also paying attention to the balance between practical configurations and driving experience. The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 4Matic, as one of the popular choices in this market segment, maintains high attention due to Mercedes-Benz's brand appeal, comprehensive safety features, and the power combination of 2.0T+4MATIC. This time, we got the actual vehicle for a one-week test. The core purpose was to see its actual performance in daily commuting, family outings, and other scenarios, and whether it could truly meet users' expectations for a luxury mid-size SUV.
From the exterior, the GLC 300 4Matic continues the steady style of the Mercedes-Benz family. The front features a large star-pattern grille, paired with sharp LED headlights on both sides, making it highly recognizable. The body side has smooth lines, with a waistline extending from the fenders to the rear, giving the body a sleeker appearance. The 20-inch multi-spoke wheels enhance the sporty feel. At the rear, the LED taillights feature a classic ring-shaped design, which is eye-catching when lit up. The dual-exhaust layout also adds a sense of power. The overall design does not overuse aggressive elements, aligning with the positioning of a luxury mid-size SUV, making it suitable for both business occasions and family use.
Inside the car, Mercedes-Benz's sense of luxury is quite apparent. The center console is wrapped in soft-touch materials, paired with wood grain trim, offering both a pleasant tactile and visual experience. The 10.25-inch central control screen is appropriately sized, with clear interfaces and smooth operation. It supports CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity features. The fully digital instrument panel displays rich information and can switch between multiple theme modes. Combined with paddle shifters on the multifunctional steering wheel, it is very convenient to operate. The seats are wrapped in genuine leather. The front seats support electric adjustment and four-way lumbar support, ensuring a relaxed posture even during long drives. The rear seats can be folded in a 40:20:40 split ratio, expanding the luggage compartment from 550L to a larger space, which easily fits baby strollers and suitcases for daily use.
In terms of space, the vehicle's length, width, and height are 4658mm, 2096mm, and 1644mm, respectively, with a wheelbase of 2873mm, which places it among the mainstream levels in the same class. The front-row seating space is spacious. A 180cm tall passenger sitting in the driving seat has ample headroom and legroom. The rear-row space is also commendable; a passenger of the same height sitting in the rear has about two fists of legroom and one fist of headroom. Although the rear middle floor is slightly raised, it has little impact. Regarding storage space, the front and rear door panel storage compartments can hold large water bottles, and the center armrest box and glove compartment also provide considerable capacity, making them convenient for daily use.
In terms of power, the GLC 300 4Matic is equipped with a 2.0T turbocharged engine that delivers a maximum power of 260PS and a peak torque of 370N·m, paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. Its official 0-100km/h acceleration time is 6.2 seconds. During actual driving, the power response at start-up is quite responsive; a light press on the accelerator gives a noticeable push-back feel. Mid-to-high-speed acceleration is also powerful, and when overtaking, pressing the accelerator deeply will prompt the transmission to quickly downshift, delivering smooth power output. The chassis uses a front MacPherson and rear multi-link independent suspension, tuned for comfort. It effectively smooths out road bumps and shows no evident rigidity when passing speed bumps. Steering precision is good, with minimal play in the steering wheel. The body's roll control during corners is also well managed, giving a feeling of stability.
In terms of fuel consumption, we drove approximately 200km each in urban areas and on highways, with an average fuel consumption of about 8.5L/100km. Considering the 2.0T engine and the four-wheel-drive system, such fuel efficiency is quite ideal. As for noise control, wind and tire noise are well-managed at high speeds, and the cabin remains fairly quiet without affecting normal conversations. Regarding safety features, the vehicle is equipped with 7 airbags, lane change assist, lane departure warning, active braking, and other functionalities. The 360-degree panoramic view camera and automatic parking function also make parking much easier, which is very friendly for beginner drivers.
Overall, the 2020 GLC 300 4Matic performs quite well in all aspects. Compared to its counterparts such as the BMW X3 and Audi Q5L, it has certain advantages in terms of luxury and richness of configurations, with more comprehensive safety features. For consumers who value brand quality and prioritize family use, this car is very suitable; it can also meet the needs of young people who pursue driving experience and practical configurations. All in all, the GLC 300 4Matic is a model that balances luxury, practicality, and driving pleasure, and is worth considering.
