In the current D-segment wagon market in Malaysia, the choices are quite limited–either traditional petrol models lack freshness, or luxury import brands are prohibitively expensive. The arrival of the 2022 Volvo V60 Recharge T8 Inscription nicely fills this gap: not only is it a hybrid wagon, but it also combines performance, luxury, and practicality in one package, priced at RM 286,909. Compared to luxury sedans in the same price range, it offers the added advantage of a wagon's cargo capacity. During this test drive, I mainly wanted to see how its hybrid system performs in real-world conditions and whether it can balance daily comfort with occasional performance demands as a family car.

From a distance, the V60 Recharge T8 Inscription retains Volvo's signature minimalist design with no over-complicated lines. The front face features a vertical slatted grille paired with Volvo's iconic “Thor's Hammer” LED headlights, making it highly recognizable. The sleek wagon profile extends smoothly from the A-pillar to the rear, and the 19-inch multi-spoke wheels perfectly complement the car's proportions. At the rear, the “Viking Axe” LED taillights have a distinct effect when lit at night, and the concealed exhaust layout under the rear bumper gives the overall design a more understated style.

Sitting inside, the first thing you notice is the high-quality materials used in the interior: the dashboard and inner door panels are wrapped in soft leather, while the armrest and seats are made of Nappa leather, offering a refined touch. The 9-inch touchscreen in the center console integrates nearly all function controls. The system interface is clear, operates smoothly, and makes commonly used features like navigation and Bluetooth easy to find. The instrument cluster is a 12.3-inch fully digital display that provides information such as the hybrid system status and remaining range, and is designed for quick-glance readability while driving. The seats offer excellent support; the front seats come with electronic adjustments and lumbar support, ensuring comfortable long journeys. Rear-seat legroom is sufficient for passengers up to 175cm tall, leaving two fist-widths of space between the knees and the front seat. Additionally, the floor's minimal central hump provides adequate space for the feet of the middle-row passenger.

In terms of space, the V60 Recharge T8 Inscription has dimensions of 4761mm×1850mm×1432mm and a wheelbase of 2872mm. The trunk offers a standard volume of 529L, which can be expanded to 1441L by folding down the rear seats, making it suitable for storing strollers, suitcases, or camping gear. There are also plenty of storage compartments inside the car; the front center armrest console and door panel storage pockets are generously sized, and there is a wireless charging pad below the center console, making it easy to store and access your phone.

This test-drive model, the V60 Recharge T8 Inscription, is equipped with a 2.0T turbocharged engine paired with an electric motor for a hybrid system. The combined maximum system output is 390PS with a peak torque of 640Nm, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Upon pressing the start button, the vehicle defaults to pure electric mode, providing quiet and smooth power delivery. The motor's torque responds quickly, making it effortless to follow traffic or drive at low speeds in the city. Switching to hybrid mode, the engine engages seamlessly with almost no noticeable vibrations. Acceleration maintains a smooth transition of power, and the official 0-100km/h acceleration time of 4.6 seconds is indeed impressive. On the highway, pressing the accelerator for overtaking reveals ample power reserves, making overtaking swift and effortless.

The steering is moderately weighted, the return torque is even, and the handling feels light during daily driving, while it gets slightly heavier at high speed, providing a more stable feeling. The chassis adopts a front double-wishbone and rear multi-link suspension setup, tuned towards comfort without sacrificing support: when crossing speed bumps or uneven roads, the suspension effectively filters out bumps, and the body exhibits no unnecessary oscillations; when driving on mountain roads, the body roll is well controlled during quick cornering. The chassis feels very cohesive, which gives sufficient confidence.

As for fuel consumption, this test drive mainly involved urban commutes and a small portion of highway segments, with an average fuel consumption of approximately 6.5L/100km, slightly lower than the official figure of 6.92L/100km. For such a powerful hybrid model, this fuel efficiency is commendable. If you frequently drive short distances in pure electric mode, the operating cost can be further reduced.

The sound insulation is well-executed. When driving at low speeds in urban areas, there is almost no external noise; on highways, tire noise and wind noise are minimal and do not affect conversations inside the car. The noise from the engine when it kicks in is also well controlled, ensuring passenger comfort. Regarding seat comfort, as previously mentioned, the backrest angle of the rear seats is suitable, making long journeys free from any back discomfort.

Overall, the greatest strength of the 2022 Volvo V60 Recharge T8 Inscription lies in its balance: the hybrid system ensures both performance and fuel efficiency; the practicality of the wagon's space surpasses luxury sedans in the same price range; the sense of luxury in the interior and the level of configuration are among the top tier in the D-segment station wagons. Compared to similar models like the BMW 3 Series Touring or the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Estate, its hybrid system is a unique advantage, and its pricing is more competitive.

This car is suitable for two types of users: one is users who focus on family practicality, as the spaciousness of the wagon can meet daily needs such as taking kids, shopping, or short trips; the other is young people who occasionally enjoy performance driving but do not want to sacrifice comfort. The hybrid system's burst of power provides an enjoyable driving experience.

In summary, the 2022 Volvo V60 Recharge T8 Inscription is a model with "no obvious weaknesses." It seamlessly integrates performance, luxury, practicality, and environmental considerations. If you are looking for a luxury wagon that meets various needs, it is worth considering.

Owner of 2022 Volvo V60 Recharge T8 Inscription
As the owner of a 2022 Volvo V60 Recharge T8 Inscription, having driven in Malaysia for almost a year, I’d like to share my thoughts on its performance and interior. Let’s talk about performance first. I’d give it 4 stars mainly because its performance on highways and national roads is truly impressive! The official 4.6-second acceleration is no exaggeration. During Kuala Lumpur's rush hour traffic jams, whenever there’s a gap, stepping on the accelerator unleashes the hybrid system’s power, leaving other cars far behind — overtaking is super satisfying. However, in narrow underground parking lots like KLCC, the car's length makes turning and reversing tricky, so I deducted some points there. Overall though, I’m still very satisfied. Next, the interior gets full marks! The Scandinavian design is exactly my taste. The Nappa leather seats are incredibly soft to the touch, and in Malaysia's over 30-degree heat, turning on the ventilated seats makes sitting in them not stuffy at all. The wood grain accents on the central console feel high-quality, paired with the 9-inch vertical screen that’s really user-friendly. The most surprising feature is the rear space. When taking my family to Genting Highlands, my parents said they could stretch their legs fully in the backseat, making long trips very comfortable. All in all, the luxury and practicality of the interior definitely place it in the top tier among its class!

As the owner of a 2022 Volvo V60 Recharge T8 Inscription, after driving it for over half a year in Malaysia, what I want to talk about the most is its exterior and safety performance. Let's talk about the exterior first—it's definitely a 5 out of 5! Every time I park in the KLCC parking lot or the historic streets of George Town in Penang, people always turn to look at it—the Scandinavian design lines really hit the spot for me. The Thor's Hammer headlights are especially striking in the misty rain of Kuala Lumpur evenings. The sleek station wagon design is a bit more elegant than ordinary sedans, paired with 19-inch wheels, and stands out among the abundance of SUVs on Malaysian roads. My friends always say, "This car is so you." As for safety, I would give it 4 out of 5. Overall, I feel very assured, but there’s room for improvement in some small details. Last month, on the North-South Expressway, I encountered a truck that suddenly changed lanes. The City Safety system immediately braked and slowed me down, avoiding a collision. On regular commutes through the LDP highway when it’s congested, the adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist are very stable, saving me quite a bit of effort. However, there was one time I was in a narrow lane in Penang and had to pass another car. The 360-degree camera image was a bit blurry, and I almost scraped a motorcycle by the roadside. If the image quality could be upgraded, it would be perfect. All in all, under Malaysian road conditions, this car not only meets my aesthetic preferences but also makes daily commuting and long-distance trips feel very reassuring with its safety features!

As the owner of the 2022 Volvo V60 Recharge T8 Inscription, having driven it in Malaysia for nearly a year, what reassures me the most is its safety performance—definitely worth a full score! Last month on the North-South Expressway, I encountered a sudden brake situation; the City Safety system immediately helped me stop, avoiding a rear-end collision. You must know that on Malaysian highways, vehicles often change lanes suddenly, and this active safety feature really saved me once. For the exterior, I give it 4 points. The overall design follows Volvo's signature minimalist Scandinavian style, with very smooth lines. Especially the design of the rear part of the wagon; it gets quite a lot of attention when driving in KL city. However, I personally think the chrome trim on the front could be a bit more understated to suit my taste, so I deducted one point. As for performance, it’s also 4 points. The acceleration of 4.6 seconds is no exaggeration! On the winding roads in Penang, stepping hard on the accelerator lets you feel the explosive power of the hybrid system. The combination of the turbocharger and the electric motor provides a strong pushback sensation—overtaking feels amazing. However, when driving in the congested roads of Kuala Lumpur, the gearbox occasionally has slight jerks during low-speed following. If this could be optimized, it would be perfect.
