2023 Honda Accord 1.5 TC Review

In the D-Segment sedan market in Malaysia, users' demands for space, features, and fuel economy have always been core considerations. The 2023 Honda Accord 1.5 TC, as a popular contender in this segment, returns this time with a 201PS turbocharged engine and rich intelligent features. Can it continue its reputation for balance? We conducted a comprehensive test drive, from static experience to dynamic performance, to see if it meets the dual expectations of family users and business professionals.
In terms of appearance, the Accord 1.5 TC maintains Honda's family-oriented stable design while adding more distinctive details. The front features a large chrome strip linking the LED headlights on both sides, and the honeycomb-style grille enhances its sporty feel; the body side lines are smooth, with a length of 4971mm paired with a 2830mm wheelbase, giving it a long and elegant visual profile. The LED taillights at the rear adopt a through-type design, offering high recognition when lit, while the chrome trim on the rear bumper adds a touch of refinement. The overall design is neither overly flashy nor fails to stand out among its peers.
Sitting inside, the interior materials and layout first give off a solid impression. The dashboard is covered with soft-touch plastic material, paired with silver trim accents, matching the D-Segment positioning in terms of texture. The 8-inch touchscreen sits at the top of the center console, operating smoothly and supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the physical buttons below ensure convenience for blind operations. The instrument cluster is an electronic illuminated analog style, providing clear displays of speed, RPM, and fuel consumption information at a glance. In terms of features, the front seats support electric adjustment with memory function for the driver's seat, while the rear seats are foldable and equipped with a center armrest. Practical features such as dual-zone automatic air conditioning, a 10-speaker audio system, and rain-sensing wipers are all included, maximizing daily usability.
Space performance has always been a traditional strength of the Accord. The 2830mm wheelbase provides very generous rear legroom, with two fists of space left even for a 180cm tall passenger. Headroom is also not cramped, ensuring no claustrophobic feeling even for taller passengers. The trunk has a volume of 570L and can easily fit three 20-inch suitcases. Folding down the rear seats further expands storage space, catering to family trips or transporting large items. Additionally, USB ports and a 220V power outlet are provided for both front and rear rows, and rear air conditioning vents ensure passenger comfort.
In terms of power, the 1.5T turbocharged engine delivers a maximum output of 148kW (201PS) and a peak torque of 260N·m, paired with a CVT transmission. Acceleration response is quick from a standstill; a light press on the accelerator offers decent acceleration. Mid to high-speed acceleration is also strong enough, and stepping harder on the accelerator during overtaking triggers quick simulated shifts from the transmission, providing a noticeable push-back feeling. Driving modes include Normal and Eco; in Eco mode, power delivery is smoother, suitable for everyday commuting, while Normal mode is more aggressive and fit for highway driving. The official combined fuel consumption is 6.3L/100km. During actual test drives, in urban conditions, fuel consumption was around 7.5L, and on highways, it was about 5.8L, showcasing excellent fuel economy.
The handling and chassis performance exceed expectations. The front MacPherson and rear multi-link suspension are tuned for comfort while maintaining a certain level of support. When driving over bumpy roads, the suspension effectively filters out minor vibrations, and passengers inside the car don't feel noticeable jolts. During cornering, body roll is well-controlled, steering is precise with minimal play, and driving confidence is strong. In terms of braking, the front and rear disc brakes respond sensitively, with short and linear braking distances, providing a great sense of security. Noise control is also commendable; wind and tire noise during high-speed driving are kept at low levels, ensuring that conversations inside the car are not affected.
Overall, the core advantage of the 2023 Honda Accord 1.5 TC lies in its balance—sufficient power with fuel efficiency, spacious interior with rich features, and a good mix of handling and comfort. Compared to its classmate, the Toyota Camry 2.5V, the Accord offers superior power specs, more comprehensive features, and a better price-to-value ratio. Meanwhile, compared to the Mazda6, its rear space and fuel economy make it more suitable for family users. This vehicle is an excellent choice for families valuing space, features, and fuel efficiency while also being capable of handling occasional business receptions.
In conclusion, the 2023 Honda Accord 1.5 TC is a D-segment sedan with no obvious shortcomings. With its balanced performance and affordable pricing, it continues to strengthen its position in the Malaysian market, making it a reliable choice for both family and business use.
