The executive-level electric vehicle market is rapidly expanding, with more and more family users and business professionals shifting towards all-electric models, seeking both luxury quality and a balance between range and features. The 2024 BMW iX xDrive50 Sport, as the brand's flagship electric SUV, stands out in this segment with its 523PS dual-motor powertrain, 630km official range, and fully equipped smart technology, making it a popular choice. This test-drive focuses on daily commuting, highway cruising, and urban driving scenarios, emphasizing the verification of its actual range, dynamic performance, and practical features to provide a reference for potential buyers.

In terms of exterior design, the iX xDrive50 Sport continues BMW's avant-garde style for electric models. Its overall lines are smooth and flowing, without the complex edges of traditional fuel vehicles, resulting in a drag coefficient as low as 0.25. The front face features a closed "kidney" grille with blue accents, offering high recognizability; the sharp-shaped LED headlights on both sides integrate daytime running lights and automatic lighting functions that adjust to ambient light conditions. On the side, the vehicle boasts 22-inch multi-spoke wheels paired with 275/40 R22 tires, delivering a grand visual effect, while the 180mm minimum ground clearance ensures SUV-level capability. The doors use hidden handles that pop out automatically when unlocked, enhancing both the tech feel and aerodynamic efficiency. At the rear, the clean and striking full-width LED taillights are complemented by a diffuser design under the bumper, enhancing the sporty look. Overall, the exterior design balances luxury with distinctive electric features.

Inside the car, the interior predominantly features light-colored leather paired with wood trim and metal buttons, providing a refined texture. The central control area incorporates a 14.9-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument panel in a joint screen design, offering high interface smoothness and supporting CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The HUD head-up display system projects information such as speed and navigation to reduce distractions while driving. The front seats are electrically adjustable, with a memory function for the driver, offering good support and comfort for long journeys. The rear seats support a 60:40 split-folding configuration, with a trunk capacity of 500L that can be expanded to 1770L when folded, easily accommodating strollers or suitcases. Configurations include an 18-speaker Harman Kardon sound system with clear audio quality, dual-zone automatic climate control with rear air vents, and wireless charging for the front row. Additionally, the storage space is ample, with a central armrest box and door storage pockets that meet everyday practical needs.

In terms of space, the car measures 4953mm/1967mm/1696mm in length, width, and height, with a wheelbase of 3000mm. The rear legroom reaches 920mm, and a passenger standing 180cm tall will still have two fists of space between their knees and the front seat, along with one fist of headroom, ensuring a comfortable and uncramped experience. The rear row includes two USB-C ports and air conditioning vents to satisfy charging and comfort needs for passengers; standard ISO FIX child seat interfaces make it suitable for family users.

In terms of performance, the iX xDrive50 Sport is equipped with front and rear dual permanent magnet synchronous motors, delivering a combined output of 385kW (523PS) and 765N·m of torque, achieving an official 0-100km/h acceleration in 4.6 seconds. During actual driving, acceleration response is quick, with instant power delivery upon pressing the accelerator pedal, free from the delay typical of fuel vehicles. When overtaking on highways, pressing the accelerator further provides a strong sense of push, easily surpassing other vehicles. There are three driving modes to choose from: Eco Pro, Comfort, and Sport. Eco Pro mode offers smooth power output suitable for daily commuting, while Sport mode delivers more aggressive power response and sharper steering.

The handling and chassis performance are commendable. The front double wishbone and rear multi-link independent suspension are tuned for comfort, effectively filtering vibrations when facing urban bumpy roads, ensuring that passengers inside the cabin almost do not feel any obvious bumps. During cornering, the suspension provides sufficient support with the body roll kept within a reasonable range. Combined with the xDrive all-wheel-drive system, the stability is strong. In terms of braking, the front and rear ventilated disc brakes respond linearly, with a braking distance of about 38 meters from 100 km/h, meeting the standards of a luxury SUV.

In the range and energy consumption test, we drove in urban road conditions with air conditioning and audio turned on, achieving an average energy consumption of about 20kWh/100km and a range realization rate of about 85%. During highway cruising, energy consumption increased to 23kWh/100km, with a range realization rate of about 78%, making the actual comprehensive range approximately 500km, sufficient for one week of commuting. The energy recovery system offers three levels of adjustment, and at the highest level, releasing the accelerator can achieve one-pedal driving, reducing energy consumption. In terms of charging, using a 150kW fast charging station, it takes only 40 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%, offering high convenience.

In terms of ride comfort, the vehicle excels in noise control, with minimal wind and tire noise even at high speeds, leaving only the faint sound of the electric motor. The seat cushioning is moderately soft and provides adequate lumbar support, making extended driving less tiring. The automatic parking assist function is precise, and the 360-degree surround-view camera provides clear visuals, ensuring easy parking for beginners. The ACC adaptive cruise control system performs steadily on highways, automatically following the vehicle ahead, reducing the driving burden.

In terms of safety features, it comes standard with six airbags, lane departure warning, lane-change assist, active braking, and other features. The forward collision warning system has high sensitivity, effectively alerting the driver to avoid risks. The vehicle stability control system performs stably on slippery roads, enhancing driving safety.

Overall, the core advantages of the 2024 BMW iX xDrive50 Sport are its powerful performance, long range, luxurious interior quality, and rich intelligent features. Compared to its peer, the Tesla Model X, the iX offers a more luxurious interior and more comprehensive configurations. Compared to the Audi e-tron GT, it provides more space, making it well-suited for family use.

This car suits two types of users: firstly, business professionals who value luxury and tech features, as its comfortable driving experience and high-end interior can meet business needs; and secondly, families seeking both performance and range, as its spacious interior and practical configurations are ideal for daily commutes and long trips.

In short, the 2024 BMW iX xDrive50 Sport is a pure electric SUV that balances luxury, performance, and practicality. It is highly competitive in the executive-level electric vehicle market and is an excellent choice for both family users and business professionals.

Pros
Outstanding range performance, official 630km, actual highway about 500km, meets long-distance commuting needs without frequent recharging
Quick power response, strong burst when pressing the accelerator, easy to weave through traffic and overtake, smooth following in single-pedal mode
Stable all-wheel-drive system, strong grip on rainy or water-covered roads, stable body during cornering, steady performance at high speeds
Cons
The body is relatively large and heavy, making parking in narrow spaces or alleys inconvenient, requiring reliance on auxiliary camera systems.
When climbing hills, the throttle response feels slightly weak when pressed deeply, and the highway range is lower than the official data.
22-inch tires cause noticeable bumps when passing speed bumps, and road noise is relatively loud, affecting comfort.

Driving this iX for commuting, the accelerator makes it easy to weave through traffic jams, and with a 630km range, there's no need to look for charging stations every day. The rear seats accommodate three buddies without feeling cramped, the 22-inch tires handle speed bumps with great stability, but the car is a bit large, so I rely on the 360-degree imaging to park in tight spaces.

Last week, I took my family to the foot of Genting Mountain. After the heavy rain, the road was waterlogged, but the xDrive system of the iX kept the car steady like a rock during cornering, and the grip of the 22-inch tires was strong enough. The 14.9-inch central control screen responds quickly, and the HUD navigation display is super convenient. However, when climbing mountain roads, pressing the accelerator deeply felt a bit sluggish, which might be due to the vehicle's weight of 2585kg. The safety features are very comprehensive; the 360-degree camera system was very helpful in Kuala Lumpur's congested roads, and the automatic parking system was also very accurate. The driving range on highways is about 500km, slightly less than the official 630km, but still sufficient. The interior has a luxurious feel, the Harman Kardon sound system is excellent, and the rear air conditioning works great. Overall, apart from slightly weaker mountain road performance, everything else is very satisfactory. Full marks for safety and appearance, but one point deducted for performance.

Previously, driving a fuel SUV during Kuala Lumpur's morning rush hour was so frustrating that I almost lost my mind. After switching to the iX xDrive50 Sport, it feels like a whole new world! With an explosive 0-100 km/h in 4.6 seconds, just hitting the accelerator helps you easily overtake in traffic. The 22-inch tires paired with xDrive all-wheel drive keep it super stable even at high speeds in rainy conditions. On weekends, taking the family to Penang is no problem as the 630km range is enough for a round trip without the need to recharge. The rear-seat space is spacious, and the kids can sleep peacefully in their car seats. The interior's crystal gear lever and HUD add a sense of technology, although the infotainment system occasionally lags. Also, its 2585kg weight sometimes requires a couple of extra steering maneuvers when parking in narrow alleys. Overall, for over RM460,000, driving an all-electric luxury SUV in Malaysia, the iX is definitely a top choice!

Previously driving the X5 Hybrid, switching to the iX xDrive50 Sport is truly no regret—its sci-fi exterior feels like a ride from the future, and the head-turn rate is off the charts. During Jalan Ampang's morning rush hour traffic, the single-pedal mode follows cars smoothly, and ACC + lane-keeping frees up the right foot; weekend trips to Genting Highlands are super steady with all-wheel drive, 765N·m torque makes overtaking effortless, and the 630km range more than suffices for a round trip with plenty left over. Safety features are maxed out, but missing knee airbags costs it 1 point. Minor gripe: the 22-inch tires feel bumpy over speed bumps, but the sporty tuning is satisfying. At this price in Malaysia, choosing this luxury electric SUV is totally worth it!

Previously, I drove a fuel-powered SUV, but after switching to the iX xDrive50 Sport, I’ve fallen completely in love with pure electric! The exterior is futuristic and imposing, with an extremely high return rate; the interior is full of a premium feel, and the curved display and HUD are super easy to use. During the morning rush hour in Kuala Lumpur, the single-pedal mode makes following cars super easy, and with 765 N·m of torque, it accelerates instantly with a light pedal, making lane changes and overtakes incredibly smooth. On weekends, when I take my family to Penang, the 630km range is more than enough. On the highway, using ACC is extremely stable, and listening to music with the Harman Kardon audio system along the way is a true enjoyment. A minor drawback is that the noise from the 22-inch tires is a bit loud, and it’s a bit bumpy over speed bumps, but overall, it’s totally worth it! Spending 460,000 MYR on this electric flagship in Malaysia gives both a sense of technology and prestige.
