2024 BMW iX xDrive50 Sport Review

The executive-level electric vehicle market is rapidly expanding, with more and more family users and business professionals shifting towards all-electric models, seeking both luxury quality and a balance between range and features. The 2024 BMW iX xDrive50 Sport, as the brand's flagship electric SUV, stands out in this segment with its 523PS dual-motor powertrain, 630km official range, and fully equipped smart technology, making it a popular choice. This test-drive focuses on daily commuting, highway cruising, and urban driving scenarios, emphasizing the verification of its actual range, dynamic performance, and practical features to provide a reference for potential buyers.
In terms of exterior design, the iX xDrive50 Sport continues BMW's avant-garde style for electric models. Its overall lines are smooth and flowing, without the complex edges of traditional fuel vehicles, resulting in a drag coefficient as low as 0.25. The front face features a closed "kidney" grille with blue accents, offering high recognizability; the sharp-shaped LED headlights on both sides integrate daytime running lights and automatic lighting functions that adjust to ambient light conditions. On the side, the vehicle boasts 22-inch multi-spoke wheels paired with 275/40 R22 tires, delivering a grand visual effect, while the 180mm minimum ground clearance ensures SUV-level capability. The doors use hidden handles that pop out automatically when unlocked, enhancing both the tech feel and aerodynamic efficiency. At the rear, the clean and striking full-width LED taillights are complemented by a diffuser design under the bumper, enhancing the sporty look. Overall, the exterior design balances luxury with distinctive electric features.
Inside the car, the interior predominantly features light-colored leather paired with wood trim and metal buttons, providing a refined texture. The central control area incorporates a 14.9-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument panel in a joint screen design, offering high interface smoothness and supporting CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The HUD head-up display system projects information such as speed and navigation to reduce distractions while driving. The front seats are electrically adjustable, with a memory function for the driver, offering good support and comfort for long journeys. The rear seats support a 60:40 split-folding configuration, with a trunk capacity of 500L that can be expanded to 1770L when folded, easily accommodating strollers or suitcases. Configurations include an 18-speaker Harman Kardon sound system with clear audio quality, dual-zone automatic climate control with rear air vents, and wireless charging for the front row. Additionally, the storage space is ample, with a central armrest box and door storage pockets that meet everyday practical needs.
In terms of space, the car measures 4953mm/1967mm/1696mm in length, width, and height, with a wheelbase of 3000mm. The rear legroom reaches 920mm, and a passenger standing 180cm tall will still have two fists of space between their knees and the front seat, along with one fist of headroom, ensuring a comfortable and uncramped experience. The rear row includes two USB-C ports and air conditioning vents to satisfy charging and comfort needs for passengers; standard ISO FIX child seat interfaces make it suitable for family users.
In terms of performance, the iX xDrive50 Sport is equipped with front and rear dual permanent magnet synchronous motors, delivering a combined output of 385kW (523PS) and 765N·m of torque, achieving an official 0-100km/h acceleration in 4.6 seconds. During actual driving, acceleration response is quick, with instant power delivery upon pressing the accelerator pedal, free from the delay typical of fuel vehicles. When overtaking on highways, pressing the accelerator further provides a strong sense of push, easily surpassing other vehicles. There are three driving modes to choose from: Eco Pro, Comfort, and Sport. Eco Pro mode offers smooth power output suitable for daily commuting, while Sport mode delivers more aggressive power response and sharper steering.
The handling and chassis performance are commendable. The front double wishbone and rear multi-link independent suspension are tuned for comfort, effectively filtering vibrations when facing urban bumpy roads, ensuring that passengers inside the cabin almost do not feel any obvious bumps. During cornering, the suspension provides sufficient support with the body roll kept within a reasonable range. Combined with the xDrive all-wheel-drive system, the stability is strong. In terms of braking, the front and rear ventilated disc brakes respond linearly, with a braking distance of about 38 meters from 100 km/h, meeting the standards of a luxury SUV.
In the range and energy consumption test, we drove in urban road conditions with air conditioning and audio turned on, achieving an average energy consumption of about 20kWh/100km and a range realization rate of about 85%. During highway cruising, energy consumption increased to 23kWh/100km, with a range realization rate of about 78%, making the actual comprehensive range approximately 500km, sufficient for one week of commuting. The energy recovery system offers three levels of adjustment, and at the highest level, releasing the accelerator can achieve one-pedal driving, reducing energy consumption. In terms of charging, using a 150kW fast charging station, it takes only 40 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%, offering high convenience.
In terms of ride comfort, the vehicle excels in noise control, with minimal wind and tire noise even at high speeds, leaving only the faint sound of the electric motor. The seat cushioning is moderately soft and provides adequate lumbar support, making extended driving less tiring. The automatic parking assist function is precise, and the 360-degree surround-view camera provides clear visuals, ensuring easy parking for beginners. The ACC adaptive cruise control system performs steadily on highways, automatically following the vehicle ahead, reducing the driving burden.
In terms of safety features, it comes standard with six airbags, lane departure warning, lane-change assist, active braking, and other features. The forward collision warning system has high sensitivity, effectively alerting the driver to avoid risks. The vehicle stability control system performs stably on slippery roads, enhancing driving safety.
Overall, the core advantages of the 2024 BMW iX xDrive50 Sport are its powerful performance, long range, luxurious interior quality, and rich intelligent features. Compared to its peer, the Tesla Model X, the iX offers a more luxurious interior and more comprehensive configurations. Compared to the Audi e-tron GT, it provides more space, making it well-suited for family use.
This car suits two types of users: firstly, business professionals who value luxury and tech features, as its comfortable driving experience and high-end interior can meet business needs; and secondly, families seeking both performance and range, as its spacious interior and practical configurations are ideal for daily commutes and long trips.
In short, the 2024 BMW iX xDrive50 Sport is a pure electric SUV that balances luxury, performance, and practicality. It is highly competitive in the executive-level electric vehicle market and is an excellent choice for both family users and business professionals.
