Specs

The competition in Malaysia's luxury compact SUV market remains fierce in 2024. Consumers value brand image as well as have clear expectations for features, space, and driving quality. As the entry-level model of the Land Rover family, the 2024 Range Rover Evoque P250 Dynamic HSE is marketed with its "baby Range Rover" design DNA and off-road capabilities, while also upgraded with intelligent features. This test drive will focus on verifying whether it can strike a balance between luxury, practicality, and performance, providing potential buyers with a clear reference.

From the exterior, the 2024 Evoque continues its family’s iconic minimalist design, with sleek and powerful lines throughout. The front grille adopts a blacked-out honeycomb design, paired with slim LED daytime running lights, giving it high recognizability; the silver skid plate on the lower front bumper adds a rugged off-road touch. On the side, it retains the floating roof design, while the 20-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels paired with 245/45 R20 tires make the side profile more proportionate. At the rear, the LED tail lights feature a through-type design that is eye-catching when illuminated, and the rear bumper also includes a silver skid plate to echo the front. For the lighting system, it comes standard with LED and xenon headlights, and features such as automatic headlights and front fog lights are fully functional, making everyday use very convenient.

Sitting inside, the luxurious interior is immediately evident. The dashboard is wrapped in large areas of soft-touch materials, paired with metal trim and piano lacquered panels for a detailed tactile experience. The 11.4-inch touchscreen infotainment screen is the centerpiece of the interior, with a clear interface and smooth responsiveness, supporting Bluetooth, CarPlay, and other functions. The full LCD instrument panel and HUD head-up display enhance the technological feel, with driving information clearly visible at a glance. In terms of features, the front seats support 8-way electric adjustments, with the driver’s seat offering a memory function. The leather upholstery is soft and provides good support. The rear seats can be folded in a 60:40 split to expand cargo space. Regarding storage, the front armrest box and door pockets offer ample space, and the trunk has a standard capacity of 410L, sufficient for daily family needs. Additionally, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, rear air vents, and a 220V/230V power outlet are standard, making it highly practical.

In terms of space, the body dimensions are 4371mm×2100mm×1649mm, with a wheelbase of 2681mm, placing it within the mainstream level for compact SUVs. The front row offers ample space; for a passenger who is 175cm tall with the seat adjusted properly, there is a fist of headroom remaining. In the rear, the legroom is about two fists, and the headroom is one fist, making it comfortable for three passengers without feeling too cramped. The rear seats are also equipped with ISOFIX child seat anchors, catering to family users.

As for performance, it is powered by a 2.0T turbocharged engine with a maximum output of 249PS and a peak torque of 365N·m, paired with an AT transmission and full-time four-wheel drive system. The official 0-100km/h acceleration time is 7.6 seconds. For daily driving, the car offers quick starts, with ample low-end torque for easy urban commuting. Mid and high-range acceleration also provides decent power; when overtaking and stepping hard on the accelerator, the transmission shifts actively, and power response is timely. Various driving modes are available, and switching to Sport mode can increase throttle sensitivity, delivering more direct power output, which is suitable for users seeking occasional driving pleasure.

The handling and chassis performance are commendable. The steering wheel is precise with minimal play, light at low speeds, and stable at high speeds, providing a good feel; the suspension system features front MacPherson struts and rear multi-link independent suspension, tuned for comfort. On bumpy roads, it effectively filters out most vibrations, ensuring passengers inside the car do not feel significant discomfort. When cornering, the body roll is well-controlled, and the four-wheel drive system provides ample grip, offering good stability. In terms of fuel consumption, the official combined fuel consumption is 9.4L/100km, with actual test drives recording around 10.5L in urban conditions and about 8.5L on highways, meeting expectations.

In terms of safety features, it comes standard with 6 airbags, ABS anti-lock braking, vehicle stability control, blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and active braking functions. The 360-degree panoramic camera and automatic parking assist are also very practical, effectively reducing parking difficulty. Regarding noise control, wind and tire noise at high speeds are not obvious, and engine noise is also well suppressed, resulting in good cabin quietness.

Overall, the 2024 Range Rover Evoque P250 Dynamic HSE has outstanding core advantages: stylish and rugged exterior design, a luxurious and well-equipped interior, ample power, stable handling, and sufficient space for family needs. Compared to competitors like the Mercedes-Benz GLA and BMW X1, its full-time four-wheel drive system and off-road capabilities are unique advantages, with more comprehensive features and a good value proposition.

This vehicle is suitable for two types of users: first, families who prioritize luxury and practicality, as it satisfies needs for space, features, and safety; and second, young people who enjoy outdoor activities and occasionally need light off-road capabilities, as the full-time four-wheel drive system can handle simple unpaved roads. If you're looking for a luxurious compact SUV that balances urban commuting and light off-road capabilities, the 2024 Evoque P250 Dynamic HSE is worth considering.

Although the Japanese SUV I drove before was worry-free, it always felt lacking in "style." I switched to the 2024 Evoque P250 Dynamic HSE. During Kuala Lumpur's morning rush hour crawl, with the Meridian sound system playing Malay folk songs, the ACC follows cars so steadily it feels like it's glued to the car in front. The 11.4-inch screen's 360-degree view was absolutely amazing when navigating the narrow alleys of Jalan Bukit Bintang. On weekends, driving the winding roads to Genting Highlands, the 2.0T turbo delivers 365 Nm of torque at just 1300 rpm, and the AWD grip is exceptionally stable, taking corners without a hitch. Any downsides? The 9.4L fuel consumption rises to 11L in city traffic, which feels painful even with RON95. But the interior texture, and when the Meridian sound system kicks in, it’s all worth it!

Previously, I drove a Japanese SUV. Switching to the Range Rover Evoque P250 Dynamic HSE was all for its interior—11.4-inch curved screen + Meridian sound system. Listening to music during Kuala Lumpur's rush hour traffic, while holding the fine leather steering wheel, it really alleviates half the frustration. The safety features are comprehensive. Last week, driving on Penang's mountain roads, I almost collided with a suddenly lane-changing car, but the automatic braking system intervened just in time, giving me quite a scare. However, the 2.0T engine requires a deep press on the accelerator for power during highway overtaking, and the fuel consumption of 9.4L is slightly high when driving in the city. On the weekend, I took my family to Genting, and its full-time four-wheel drive was very stable on the uphill roads. The rear air conditioning is also sufficiently cool, but the trunk feels a bit cramped after loading three suitcases. Overall, both the aesthetics and quality are impressive. Worth the price!

This appearance turns heads to the max, but that automatic braking system has so many false alarms on rainy days it makes me want to smash the steering wheel!

Every morning during rush hour, the 2.0T low-end torque provides solid confidence, and it doesn't drag when occasionally overtaking; with the Meridian sound system playing music, even traffic jams become enjoyable. The 20-inch tires handle bumps surprisingly steady, and the leather seats don't get hot in summer. The interior details truly deserve the 5-star rating!

Last week, I took my family to Cameron Highlands. The heavy rain made the mountain roads slippery, but the vehicle stability system and lane-assist were indeed reliable. There was no skidding during cornering, which deserves a safety score of 4 out of 5. However, the 20-inch tires made the ride bumpy on pothole-filled roads, causing the kids in the backseat to frown, and the fuel consumption soared to 12L/100km. The exterior is indeed eye-catching, and the LED headlights shone brightly in the rain and fog. However, the central control screen occasionally lagged, though the HUD head-up display made it convenient to check navigation. At over 560,000 MYR, as for value for money, let's just say you're paying for the brand and design.
