Specs

In Malaysia's luxury compact SUV market, the Range Rover Evoque has always held a significant position with its unique design and brand identity. The 2024 P250 Dynamic SE, as a facelifted model, not only retains the classic family design language but also enhances its configuration and power tuning. In this test drive, we focus on experiencing its performance in daily commuting and weekend family outing scenarios to see if this vehicle can offer more practical value to pragmatic Malaysian consumers beyond its "good looks."

From the appearance, the 2024 Evoque P250 Dynamic SE continues the iconic coupe-like silhouette and floating roof design. The body dimensions are 4371mm in length, 2100mm in width, and 1649mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2681mm, which categorizes it as a standard compact SUV. The front features a blacked-out honeycomb grille paired with sharp LED headlamps on both sides, offering high recognizability. The silver skid plate at the bottom of the front bumper adds a touch of off-road flair. The side profile boasts smooth lines, while the 20-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels (tire specifications 245/45 R20) make the proportions more balanced. At the rear, the highlights of this facelift include the full-width LED taillights, which create a striking visual effect when lit. The rear bumper is similarly equipped with a silver skid plate, echoing the design of the front. The overall design retains Range Rover’s luxurious appeal, while the detailed adjustments enhance the sporty ambiance.

Sitting inside, the interior exudes a strong sense of luxury. The center console is wrapped in soft leather, accented with metal trim, and most of the frequently touched areas are made of soft materials. The 11.4-inch floating central control screen is the core of the interior, offering a clear interface and smooth operation, and supports CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The full-LCD instrument cluster displays abundant vehicle information, including navigation and power output. In terms of features, the standard equipment includes a head-up display (HUD), a Meridian 11-speaker audio system, 8-way electrically adjustable front seats (with memory function), 60:40 split-folding rear seats, and dual-zone automatic climate control, ensuring daily usability and comfort. As for storage space, the center console storage box and door pockets in the front row are large enough to hold phones, cups, and other items. The boot offers a regular capacity of 410 liters, which can be expanded by folding down the rear seats, accommodating luggage needs for short family trips.

In terms of power, the 2024 Evoque P250 Dynamic SE is equipped with a 2.0T turbocharged engine, delivering a maximum output of 249PS and a peak torque of 365N·m. It is paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system. The official 0-100km/h acceleration time is 7.6 seconds, with a top speed of 230km/h. During actual driving, the initial power response is quite active, giving a good push-back feeling with a light press on the accelerator. The mid-to-late acceleration performance is stable, and when overtaking, pressing the accelerator deeply prompts quick downshifts, ensuring seamless power output. Driving modes include Comfort, Sport, and Off-road. Switching to Sport mode enhances accelerator sensitivity and adopts a more aggressive gear-shift logic, catering to users seeking driving pleasure.

In terms of handling, the steering is precise with minimal play. The steering wheel feels steady at high speeds, giving the driver ample confidence. The chassis adopts a front MacPherson and rear multi-link independent suspension, tuned for comfort. It absorbs most minor road bumps; when crossing speed bumps or uneven roads, the suspension rebounds crisply without unnecessary wobbling. However, on continuously bumpy roads, rear passengers may feel slight vibrations. The all-wheel-drive system performs well on slippery roads or for light off-road scenarios, enhancing vehicle stability. We performed a simple test on unpaved suburban roads, and the vehicle’s passability and off-road capability align with the positioning of a compact luxury SUV.

As for fuel consumption, the official combined consumption is 9.4L/100km. During the actual test drive, the fuel consumption in congested city roads was around 11-12L/100km, while on highways it could drop to approximately 8L/100km. The overall fuel efficiency is average, in line with the performance of a 2.0T all-wheel-drive vehicle. Noise control is fairly good, with minimal wind and tire noise during high-speed driving. The Meridian sound system further aids in isolating external noises. The seats offer good support and wrapping, ensuring comfort during long drives.

In terms of safety features, this car comes standard with 6 airbags, ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), vehicle stability control, blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, ACC (adaptive cruise control), a 360-degree panoramic camera, automatic parking, among others. Its safety performance ranks above average in its class.

Overall, the core advantages of the 2024 Range Rover Evoque P250 Dynamic SE lie in design, luxurious features, and brand value. Compared to competitors in the same segment, such as the BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA, it stands out in interior luxury and feature richness, with the all-wheel-drive system being a bonus. However, its fuel consumption performance and rear space (relatively shorter wheelbase) are its drawbacks. This car is more suitable for consumers who value brand appeal, pursue luxury comfort, and desire a certain level of off-road capability. It's ideal for urban professionals aged 30-40 and small families who need the convenience of daily commuting while appreciating quality and refinement for weekend getaways.

In conclusion, the 2024 Evoque P250 Dynamic SE is a compact luxury SUV that "combines aesthetics and performance." Its design caters to consumers' personalized preferences, and its features and performance can meet most daily needs. If your budget allows and you value the Range Rover brand and luxury experience, this car is worth considering.

Previously, I drove a Japanese SUV. Switching to the Range Rover Evoque P250 Dynamic SE was all about its British style and all-terrain capabilities. The safety features are maxed out, and the automatic braking saved me once during a heavy morning rush hour in Kuala Lumpur, truly deserving a 5-star safety rating. The interior's Meridian sound system is powerful, but the rear seats feel a bit cramped for three adult men. On weekends, driving up Genting Highlands, the all-wheel drive was super stable, although the fuel consumption at 9.4 liters per 100km can go up to over 11 in city traffic. The 20-inch wheels are perfect for the scenic Malacca coastal roads, though you need to slow down a bit when going over speed bumps. Overall, its looks, safety, and quality are top-notch, and the minor drawbacks are totally acceptable.

2024 Range Rover Evoque P250 Dynamic SE driven for three months, truly amazing! During the morning rush hour, when traffic makes you question life, the 2.0T turbo engages quickly, making lane changes and overtaking effortless; in the afternoon while picking up the kids from school, the 360-degree camera and automatic parking system allow for smooth parking in tight spaces, even better than a seasoned driver. On weekends, taking the whole family to the suburbs, the all-wheel drive handles muddy roads after rain with ease, and with the Meridian sound system turned on, even traffic jams become enjoyable ~ The only slight regret is the slightly high fuel consumption in the city, but it’s worth it for the aesthetics and sense of security this car provides!

Previously drove a Japanese SUV, switched to the Evoque P250 Dynamic SE purely for its design and Land Rover’s all-terrain DNA. On Malaysia’s LDP highway during morning rush hour, the 2.0T turbo kicks in fast, making overtaking effortless, and the ACC follows steadily; on weekends, taking the family to Genting Highlands, the support on mountain road curves is sufficient, AWD provides strong grip, and there’s no slipping during uphill drives on rainy days. The Meridian sound system in the interior is powerful, the central control screen is smooth, but the lack of storage compartments is annoying as there’s nowhere to place the phone. Safety features are comprehensive, and the 360-degree camera is extremely practical for parking in narrow alleys in Kuala Lumpur. Fuel consumption of 9.4L in the city is reasonable, though the price of 520,000 MYR is a bit steep. However, the high head-turning rate makes it worth it!

Heavy rain driving through water puddles, the 4WD feels stable like it's glued to the ground, but the start-stop system feels a bit abrupt...
