Specs

In today's increasingly competitive Malaysian luxury mid-size car market, the 3 Series, as BMW's sales pillar, consistently holds a core position in the D-Segment. The 2025 330Li M Sport maintains its classic sporty DNA while upgrading its features and space. In this test drive, we focused on evaluating the practicality of its extended wheelbase, power responsiveness, and the actual experience of its tech configurations to see if it can still maintain its benchmark position in the same class.

In terms of exterior design, the 2025 330Li M Sport continues BMW's family sporty style. The front kidney grille has a moderate size, paired with the M Sport package’s blacked-out design, ensuring a high level of recognizability. The side profile features smooth lines, with a waistline that extends from the fender to the rear, enhancing a muscular look. The extended wheelbase makes the side proportions more elegant. The rear adopts smoked LED tail lights, matching the dual exhaust layout on both sides. The overall design retains the sporty tone of the 3 Series while enhancing its refined details through adjustments.

Opening the car door, the 12.3-inch instrument panel and 14.9-inch curved center touchscreen form an eye-catching dual-screen system with high interface smoothness. It supports touch interaction and iDrive knob operations, making daily use convenient. The interior materials emphasize soft leather and metal trims, creating a solid tactile texture. The multifunctional steering wheel comes standard with paddle shifters, and the HUD head-up display projects real-time information like speed and navigation, reducing driver distractions. The front seats support electric adjustment, offer moderate support, and ensure comfort even during long drives. Thanks to a 2961mm wheelbase, the rear offers ample legroom; passengers up to 180cm tall can sit with two fist-widths of space between their knees and the front seats. The minimal tunnel hump in the middle ensures that even for five occupants, the comfort of the middle passenger is guaranteed. The trunk has a capacity of 480L, and the rear seats can be folded in a 40:20:40 split, making it convenient to load larger luggage.

In terms of performance, the 2.0T turbocharged engine delivers a maximum power of 190kW (258PS) and a maximum torque of 400N·m, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The official 0-100km/h acceleration is 6.2 seconds. During actual driving, the power response is active during the initial acceleration; the maximum torque is available at 1550rpm. Mid to high-range acceleration is strong, and stepping hard on the throttle for overtaking delivers a noticeable push-back feeling. When switched to Sport mode, the transmission adopts a more aggressive shift logic, keeping the rpm high, with power instantly available. For daily commuting, the Comfort mode provides smooth shifting, making it suitable for urban driving conditions.

In terms of handling, the rear-wheel-drive layout, paired with a double-wishbone front suspension and multi-link rear suspension, delivers precise steering with minimal play. The vehicle's body roll is well-controlled during cornering, providing the driver with plenty of confidence. The suspension is tuned for sportiness but effectively filters out most minor vibrations when driving over speed bumps or uneven roads, avoiding a harsh feeling. The braking system shows stable performance, with a linear pedal feedback; the car maintains a stable posture during emergency braking. As for fuel efficiency, the measured average across mixed road conditions is about 7.8L/100km, while highway driving can go as low as 6.5L/100km. For a 2.0T D-segment car, this performance meets expectations.

In terms of ride comfort, the in-cabin noise control is well-handled, with wind noise and tire noise being not noticeable even at high speeds. The sound system uses the Bowers & Wilkins brand, with 16 speakers providing clear sound performance. The seat cushioning is moderately soft, striking a good balance between wrapping and support. The rear row features independent air conditioning controls and is equipped with USB charging ports to meet the needs of rear passengers.

In summary, the core strengths of the 2025 330Li M Sport lie in its well-rounded product capability: the extended wheelbase provides a spacious rear-row space, making it suitable for families; the sporty powertrain and handling preserve the driving pleasure characteristic of the 3 Series; and the abundance of configurations, such as 360-degree panoramic imaging, automatic parking, and ACC adaptive cruise control, enhance daily convenience. Compared to its peers, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4L, it offers advantages in power performance and rear-wheel-drive handling, with a relatively more budget-friendly price.

This car is suitable for two types of consumers: first, young buyers who value driving pleasure, as the rear-wheel-drive layout and strong power satisfy their handling needs; second, users who require a balance with family use, as the spacious space and abundant safety configurations ensure family comfort and safety. Overall, the 2025 330Li M Sport is a "well-rounded" mid-size sedan that strikes an excellent balance between sportiness, comfort, and practicality.

Switching to Sport mode during the morning rush hour, the 2.0T+ rear-wheel drive provides seamless acceleration for overtaking without waiting; no pressure to cross your legs in the rear seats, and the panoramic sunroof adds a bit more joy to the afternoon commute. The safety rating isn't perfect, but the standard active braking for daily commutes is reassuring, definitely worth the price!

Last week, I took my family to Genting. When climbing uphill in heavy rain, the 2.0T turbo delivered 400 Nm of torque at just 1550 rpm, and the rear-wheel drive was extremely stable. Cornering felt like it was glued to the ground. However, the 18-inch tires were a bit noisy, but once the B&W sound system was on, it was easy to ignore. The safety features are really comprehensive, and the lane departure warning saved me once when I lost focus. The interior texture is beyond words, but the center control screen being a fingerprint magnet is a bit annoying. Overall, it’s still awesome!

Previously, I drove a Japanese car, but I switched to this 330Li M Sport purely because of its stunning looks – under the blazing Malaysian sun, the blacked-out kidney grille combined with the M Sport package turns heads everywhere, and its exterior truly deserves a 5-star rating. During the Jalan Ampang rush hour traffic jams in the morning, the 2.0T+8AT engine delivers power on demand, making lane changes silky smooth, and the 360-degree camera has saved me from many motorbike scrapes. On weekends, when taking my family to Genting, the 2961mm wheelbase lets the elders in the backseat stretch their legs out comfortably, and the B&W sound system enhances the atmosphere when playing Malaysian songs. However, I would only give the safety a 4-star rating, as it lacks knee airbags, leaving me a bit concerned during emergency braking at high speeds. Overall, driving this rear-wheel-drive 3 Series in Malaysia strikes a very comfortable balance between sportiness and family use!
