2025 BMW 5 Series 530i M Sport Review

The executive sedan market has become increasingly competitive in recent years. Consumers demand a mature and steady business presence while refusing to compromise on intelligent features and driving pleasure. The 2025 BMW 5 Series 530i M Sport is a model launched to meet these needs. As the key version after a mid-cycle refresh, it not only retains the classic sporty DNA of the 5 Series but also upgrades its intelligent configurations and hybrid system. This time, we got the actual car, and our key focus is to test whether it can balance business elegance with the practicality of daily driving.
The body dimensions are 5060mm in length, 1900mm in width, and 1515mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2900mm. The overall silhouette maintains the elongated and sleek design that is typical of the 5 Series. The addition of the M Sport package reduces some of the business-like dullness: the front features a blacked-out double kidney grille with an active closure function, which reduces air resistance at high speeds; the sharp-shaped LED headlights on both sides have blacked-out “Angel Eyes” daytime running lights inside for higher recognition. On the sides, 20-inch dual five-spoke blacked-out wheels paired with 245/40 R20 front and 275/35 R20 rear wide tires create a low-profile sporty stance; the waistline runs from the front fender to the taillights, and the rear features an M Sport rear bumper with dual exhaust outlets, plus blacked-out LED taillights, significantly enhancing the sporty feel compared to the standard version.
Opening the door, the interior follows BMW's family-style design, but the materials and features have been significantly upgraded. The dashboard combines soft-touch surfaces, metal trim, and piano lacquer finishes, offering a delicate tactile experience; the 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster and the 14.9-inch central control screen are seamlessly integrated, running the latest iDrive 8.5 system with high interface smoothness and support for voice control and gesture operations. The HUD (Heads-Up Display) is standard and can show speed, navigation, and other information, reducing distractions while driving. The multifunctional steering wheel comes with paddle shifters, supports manual four-way adjustments, and provides a solid grip. For seating, the front features electrically adjustable sports seats with good wrapping, making long drives comfortable. The rear space fits its executive-level positioning, offering about two fists’ worth of legroom and one fist of headroom for a 175cm passenger, along with independent air conditioning vents, Type-C ports, and rear seats that support a 40:20:40 split-fold mechanism. The 520L trunk can easily accommodate two 28-inch suitcases.
In terms of power, it features a 2.0T turbocharged engine combined with a 48V mild hybrid system, delivering a combined output of 258PS and a maximum torque of 400N·m, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. During actual driving, the mild hybrid system integrates smoothly during take-off without any noticeable abruptness; torque in the low-speed range is abundant, making city starts and following traffic easy. Pressing the accelerator deeper, the engine delivers power within the torque platform of 1600-4500rpm, with acceleration that is linear and consistent. The official 0-100km/h acceleration is 6.2 seconds, and actual testing closely matches the official data, giving confidence when overtaking. The steering is precise, with minimal play and clear directional feedback. The chassis uses a front double-wishbone and rear multi-link independent suspension system, tuned for sportiness but retaining a certain degree of comfort — over speed bumps, the suspension filters out most fine vibrations without excess body movements. At high-speed corners, the suspension provides good support, minimizes body roll effectively, and works with the rear-wheel-drive layout to deliver agile vehicle dynamics. In terms of fuel consumption, under mixed driving conditions, it achieved a test result of 7.5L/100km, slightly higher than the official 7.1L, but considering the sport package and 20-inch wheels, this performance ranks in the middle to upper range among HEV models in the same class.
The daily driving experience is also worth mentioning. In terms of noise insulation, at high speeds of 120km/h, wind and tire noise are well controlled. The Bowers & Wilkins 18-speaker sound system delivers clear audio quality, easily masking external noise. The engine start-stop function operates smoothly, with almost no noticeable vibrations. The 360-degree panoramic camera and automatic parking assist are user-friendly for beginners, making it easy to handle narrow parking spaces. For safety features, six airbags, lane change assist, lane departure warning, and active braking are all standard. The ACC adaptive cruise control allows for automatic following on highways, reducing driving fatigue.
Overall, the core advantages of the 2025 BMW 530i M Sport are evident: the sporty appearance brought by the M Sport package, rich smart features (such as HUD, 360-degree panoramic view, iDrive 8.5), balanced power and handling, and executive-level space performance. Compared to the Mercedes-Benz E-Class in the same class, it stands out more in driving pleasure; compared to the Audi A6L, it offers more sincere configurations. This car is suitable for two types of people: firstly, middle-aged users who need a vehicle for business receptions while pursuing driving enjoyment; secondly, young families who like a sporty style but also value space and features. If you are looking for an “executive sedan” that is suitable for both business and family, the 530i M Sport would be a good choice.
