2025 BMW iX xDrive45 Sport Review

The luxury electric vehicle market in Malaysia has been heating up in recent years, with mid-to-high-end pure electric SUVs becoming a new choice for many families and business users. The 2025 BMW iX xDrive45 Sport, as a core model of the Executive class, has attracted a lot of attention right after its launch, thanks to its official range of 602 kilometers, combined power output of 408 PS, and abundant smart configurations. In this test drive, we mainly focused on its daily usability, range performance, and whether its luxury features align with its positioning.
From an exterior perspective, the iX xDrive45 Sport continues BMW's avant-garde design for electric vehicles, with smooth and rounded lines, devoid of the sharp edges typical of traditional fuel cars. The front features a sealed dual kidney grille paired with slim LED headlights, which gives it high recognizability. The hidden door handles on the sides and 21-inch multi-spoke wheels further enhance its technological feel. The rear-end showcases through-type LED taillights echoing the front, while the lower diffuser design retains some sporty flair.
Stepping inside the car, the luxurious and technological ambiance stands out. The center console is wrapped in large areas of soft-touch materials, complemented by metal trim and ambient lighting, providing excellent tactile and visual effects. The 12.3-inch full LCD instrument panel and the 14.9-inch curved central control screen are integrated into one, equipped with the latest iDrive system. The system operates smoothly and supports voice control; a HUD head-up display and an 18-speaker Harman Kardon sound system are standard features, enhancing daily convenience and comfort. The front seats support electric adjustment and memory functions, offering excellent back and cushion support, ensuring comfort even on long journeys.
In terms of space, the iX's body dimensions are 4965mm×1970mm×1695mm, with a wheelbase reaching 3000mm, providing ample rear legroom. Passengers as tall as 180cm sitting in the back will have about two fists' worth of room between their knees and the front seats. The trunk capacity is 500 liters, which can be further expanded by folding the rear seats, enough to hold several suitcases or a baby stroller for daily use. The rear row is equipped with independent air conditioning outlets and USB charging ports, showcasing thoughtful detail considerations.
In terms of performance, the iX xDrive45 Sport is equipped with dual permanent magnet synchronous motors at the front and rear, offering a combined power output of 300kW (408PS) and a total torque of 700N·m. The official 0-100km/h acceleration takes only 5.1 seconds. During actual driving, the moment the accelerator pedal is pressed, the power bursts forth, making starts and overtaking very swift. When switched to sport mode, the power response becomes sharper with a noticeable push-back feeling. For daily commuting, the comfort mode suffices, offering smooth power output suitable for urban roads.
In terms of handling and chassis performance, the combination of front double-wishbone and rear multi-link independent suspension performs solidly. When passing through speed bumps or uneven roads, the suspension effectively filters out vibrations, and the body shows no obvious shakiness. When cornering at high speeds, the steering is precise, and the body roll is well-controlled, inspiring enough confidence. As a pure electric SUV, its weight reaches 2525kg, but thanks to the all-wheel-drive system, the driving stability remains excellent.
Range and charging are key factors for pure electric vehicles. In this test drive, we mainly drove in urban and highway conditions, with the air conditioning and audio system turned on throughout. The electricity consumption was about 18kWh per 100 kilometers. The official range is 602km, and the actual range is approximately 550km, achieving about 90%, which is a good performance. In fast charging mode, it takes only 35 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%, while slow charging takes 5 hours. For daily use, both home slow charging and public fast charging are very convenient.
The iX's noise control performance is commendable. At low speeds, the sound of the electric motor is almost inaudible, and at high speeds, wind noise and tire noise are well controlled within a reasonable range, ensuring that it does not affect communication among passengers inside the car. The energy recovery system has three adjustable levels. The highest level has a noticeable drag feeling, while the lowest level provides an experience close to coasting in a fuel car, catering to different driving habits.
Overall, the 2025 BMW iX xDrive45 Sport has prominent core advantages: a 600-kilometer range that can meet long-distance travel needs, 408PS of power that easily handles various road conditions, as well as rich luxury features and spacious interior space. These make it highly competitive among pure electric SUVs in its class. Compared to peers like Tesla Model X or Mercedes-Benz EQC, the iX has an edge in terms of luxury and features, and its price is relatively reasonable.
This car is suitable for families who value a luxurious experience and practicality, or mid-to-high-end consumers who need to balance business and family needs. Its range is sufficient for daily commuting and short trips, its space meets the needs of family travel, and its features enhance daily comfort. If you’re looking for a luxury SUV that matches the brand's standard while meeting pure electric travel demands, the iX xDrive45 Sport would be a great choice.
