Audi A4 2019 Review

In Malaysia's D-Segment sedan market, German brands have always occupied the core position of "a balance between luxury and handling," and the 2019 Audi A4 Sport 2.0 TFSI quattro is a typical representative of this niche market—it not only continues Audi's iconic sense of technology but also enhances its dynamic performance with the quattro all-wheel-drive system. We got our hands on the actual vehicle this time, with the primary goal of evaluating its overall capabilities in daily commuting, highway cruising, and light handling scenarios, to see if its "sport luxury" positioning lives up to its name.
At first glance, the design of this A4 retains Audi's family-style steadiness while exuding a sense of sportiness through finer details. The hexagonal single-frame grille on the front adopts matte silver trim, paired with sharp LED headlights on both sides, giving it high recognizability. The side profile features smooth lines, with a waistline extending from the hood to the rear, preventing monotony, while the 18-inch multi-spoke wheels further enhance its sporty vibe. At the rear, the LED taillights adopt the family-style "arrow-shaped" light strip design, which looks striking when lit, and the dual-sided exhaust layout below hints at its performance capabilities. The overall exterior design is not overly exaggerated, but every detail aligns precisely with its "sport" version positioning, resulting in a sophisticated and visually appealing model.
Once inside, the interior quality instantly showcases the craftsmanship of German luxury. The dashboard combines soft-touch materials with metal trim, offering a refined tactile feel wherever you touch. Although the 8.3-inch touchscreen is not particularly large, it operates smoothly and is complemented by a Bang & Olufsen 10-speaker sound system, delivering a top-tier audio-visual experience for this class. In terms of features, the fully digital instrument cluster is a highlight—it not only displays conventional speed and RPM information but can also switch to navigation mode, projecting maps onto the central area, which is highly practical. The front seats support electric adjustment with memory functionality, while the rear seats are equipped with a 40:20:40 split-folding design, balancing passenger comfort and cargo flexibility. As for space, the 2820mm wheelbase translates to spacious rear legroom; a 175cm-tall passenger seated in the back has approximately a two-fist gap from their knees to the front seat. The trunk offers a capacity of 460 liters, enough to accommodate two suitcases with ease, and folding down the rear seats can further expand its storage capability. Additionally, features such as dual-zone automatic climate control, rear air conditioning vents, and rain-sensing wipers are all included, ensuring high practicality.
In terms of performance, this A4 is equipped with a 2.0T turbocharged engine delivering a maximum power output of 249PS, with peak torque available in the 1600-4500rpm range. It is paired with a 7-speed DCT gearbox and the quattro all-wheel-drive system. During actual driving, the power response at startup is very direct—pressing the accelerator lightly provides an obvious sense of thrust, and the official 0-100km/h acceleration time of 5.8 seconds ranks among the top in its class. When switched to sport mode, the transmission shifts more aggressively, with quicker downshifts; pressing the accelerator deeply allows for rapid power connection during overtaking. In terms of handling, the steering wheel offers moderate weight and high precision, and with the support of the quattro all-wheel-drive system, the vehicle maintains stable posture during cornering without significant body roll. The chassis features multi-link independent suspension at both the front and rear, tuned to favor sportiness without being excessively rigid. It effectively absorbs most bumps from common speed bumps or uneven roads in Malaysia, while retaining a certain level of road feel.
In terms of fuel consumption, the official combined consumption is 7.1L/100km. In our actual tests, the fuel consumption was about 8.5L/100km in urban commuting conditions, while it dropped to 6.8L/100km during highway cruising. For a 2.0T four-wheel-drive model, this performance is within an acceptable range. Noise control is also commendable. When driving at high speeds, both wind and tire noise are well suppressed. Only during rapid acceleration does the engine sound slightly penetrate the cabin, but it's not harsh. In addition, features such as electronic parking and hill start assist make daily driving more convenient.
Overall, the core advantage of the 2019 Audi A4 sport 2.0 TFSI quattro lies in its "balance"—it not only boasts the luxurious interior quality and rich features of German models but also provides driving pleasure with the quattro four-wheel-drive system and robust power. At the same time, its space and practicality can also meet family needs. Compared with competitors in the same class like the BMW 3 Series or Mercedes-Benz C-Class, its four-wheel-drive system is a unique selling point, and configurations such as the Bang & Olufsen sound system and fully digital instrument panel give it an edge in terms of technological sophistication.
This car is best suited for people who value both daily comfort and luxury while also occasionally wanting to experience driving excitement—such as professionals aged 30 to 40, or users who need to balance family and personal hobbies. If you are looking for a "versatile" D-segment sedan, the 2019 Audi A4 sport 2.0 TFSI quattro is a choice you can't go wrong with.
