The luxury coupe market has always focused on consumers who pursue both performance and quality. The 2019 Bentley Continental GT series is a representative choice in this niche segment. Among them, the Continental GT V8 offers Bentley's signature luxury feel while balancing the strong performance of its 4.0T twin-turbocharged V8 engine at a relatively accessible price (RM 783,000). The combination of hardtop and convertible versions, as well as V8 and W12 powertrains, provides differentiated options to meet diverse customer needs. This review will focus on the Continental GT V8 hardtop version, examining whether its static luxury aligns with the brand's positioning and whether its dynamic performance balances daily comfort with driving passion.

From the exterior, the Continental GT V8 continues Bentley's classic coupe silhouette, with its 4850mm length and 2851mm wheelbase creating a sleek and low-slung stance. The front end features the iconic matrix grille, paired with sharp LED headlamps on each side, which are highly recognizable when illuminated. The side profile boasts smooth lines, with a waistline extending from the fender to the rear, enhancing its muscular feel. The 21-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels further add a hint of sportiness. At the rear, the split LED taillights echo the quad exhaust layout, preserving a sense of luxury while hinting at its performance capabilities. The overall design refrains from exaggerated elements but conveys Bentley’s unique elegance and dignity through meticulous detailing.

Entering the interior, a strong sense of luxury is immediately evident. The center console is wrapped in extensive leather, complemented by wooden panels and metal buttons, with high-quality materials everywhere you touch. The 12.3-inch touchscreen embedded into the dashboard supports CarPlay connectivity and navigation, with an operation smoothness befitting a flagship model. The multifunctional steering wheel is wrapped in leather, offering an appropriately sized design with a firm grip. The left buttons control driver assistance systems, while the right ones manage media functions. The front seats support multi-directional electric adjustments and heating functions, with cushioning that is soft yet supportive, making prolonged driving comfortable. While the rear seats are designated for a 4-seat layout, the legroom is limited due to the coupe configuration, only suitable for passengers under 170cm for short rides, making them more ideal for emergency use. Regarding storage space, the central armrest box in the front is moderately sized, the door-panel storage compartments can accommodate two bottled waters, and the 358L trunk capacity can fit two 20-inch suitcases, meeting basic travel needs.

The dynamic performance is one of the core highlights of the Continental GT V8. Its 4.0T twin-turbocharged V8 engine delivers a maximum output of 550PS and a peak torque of 770N·m, paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission and an all-wheel-drive system, enabling an official 0-100km/h acceleration time of just 4 seconds. During actual driving, the power responds quickly at startup, and even a light press on the accelerator provides a noticeable thrust. Mid- to high-speed acceleration remains strong, and above 100km/h, the transmission shifts smoothly with tightly connected power delivery, allowing swift and seamless overtaking. The driving modes include Comfort, Sport, and Custom options. When switched to Sport mode, the exhaust note becomes more robust, and the steering wheel gains weight, enhancing driving pleasure.

In terms of chassis, both the front and rear are equipped with adaptive air suspension. During daily driving, the suspension tuning leans towards comfort, effectively filtering out minor bumps on the road. Even when passing over speed bumps or uneven road surfaces, vibrations transmitted to the cabin are kept within a reasonable range. When entering corners, the suspension automatically stiffens, providing excellent body roll control. Combined with the stable traction offered by the all-wheel-drive system, cornering inspires great confidence. Fuel consumption meets expectations, with a combined fuel consumption of about 13-15L/100km on city roads, and dropping to around 10L/100km on highways. The 90L fuel tank capacity ensures a cruising range of approximately 600km.

Sound insulation is a traditional strength of Bentley, and the Continental GT V8 performs exceptionally well in this regard. Even when driving at a speed of 120 km/h, wind noise and tire noise are very well controlled, and only a faint engine roar can be heard inside the cabin, which does not interfere with the conversation between passengers. The seats provide consistent support and cushioning during long drives, preventing discomfort such as back pain. In addition, the vehicle comes standard with safety features like forward collision warning and front and rear parking sensors, offering extra assurance for daily driving.

Overall, the core advantage of the 2019 Bentley Continental GT V8 lies in its "balance"—it combines Bentley's iconic luxurious interior and comfortable experience with the powerful performance of the V8 engine. Compared to models in the same class, it is priced approximately RM 27,800 lower than the W12 version, and is more fuel-efficient, providing a more cost-effective option. Meanwhile, compared to luxury coupe models from other brands, Bentley's brand premium and the handcrafted interior craftsmanship offer unique competitive advantages.

This car is more suited for two types of buyers: first, successful individuals pursuing luxurious quality and daily practicality, who need a car that can balance business receptions with short family trips; second, sports car enthusiasts who seek driving pleasure without compromising on comfort. The performance of the V8 engine and the tuning of the adaptive suspension meet their desire for driving enjoyment.

As Bentley's entry-level luxury coupe, the Continental GT V8 offers consumers an accessible entry point into the world of luxury brands. Whether in terms of its luxurious static feel or its dynamic performance, it fully meets the positioning of a luxury coupe. If you're looking for a car that can both highlight your status and provide driving pleasure, the Continental GT V8 is undoubtedly a choice worth considering.

Pros
Powerful performance, fast acceleration (0-100 km/h in 3.7-4 seconds), strong confidence in overtaking, strong push-back feeling
Excellent suspension system performance, adaptive suspension absorbs most bumps, comfortable ride
Comprehensive safety features including adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, forward collision warning, etc.
Cons
Convertible models have a leakage issue, with seats and carpets easily getting wet during heavy rain, resulting in poor practicality.
High fuel consumption (11.8-13.6L/100km), and using 98-octane fuel is costly, making city driving burdensome.
The rear space in some models is slightly narrow, making long trips cramped and affecting practicality.

Driving it daily for commuting, the adaptive suspension smooths out most of the bumps during traffic jams, quite comfortable. The 4-second 0-100 km/h acceleration is thrilling for overtaking, but the 11.8L fuel consumption in the city can be a bit painful. However, having two friends in the backseat doesn’t feel crowded, and taking it out for a weekend drive is still very enjoyable.

Last week, I took my wife and two kids to Cameron Highlands. As soon as we reached halfway up the mountain, we encountered a torrential downpour. I quickly closed the soft-top convertible, but then I realized that this thing actually leaked in the heavy rain! The seats and carpets got soaked, and I had to keep wiping them with a towel along the way. That said, the performance of this car is truly remarkable. The 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine made driving on those winding mountain roads feel like flying. The safety features are quite complete too, with adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring among them. However, the manual parking brake is a bit inconvenient. Overall, it's a great car to drive, but its practicality still needs improvement.

Last week, I took my family on an outing to Genting. Just as we started the mountain road, we encountered heavy rain. The power of the 6.0T W12 was very effortless during uphill climbs, and the 3.7-second acceleration from 0-100 km/h gave me full confidence when overtaking. However, during sudden acceleration on slippery roads, the body slightly skidded, performance score -1. The leather and wood grain finish of the interior are top-notch, but the rear space is a bit cramped. After a long drive, my family said it felt a bit tight, interior score -1. The safety features are very comprehensive; the forward collision warning system helped me avoid a rear-end collision in a crowded area, safety score 5. Overall, this is a luxury sports car perfect for enjoying driving, but there is room for improvement in practicality.

This Bentley has been driven for almost five years, and every time it starts, I'm still amazed by its power—the throttle responds with just a light press during high-speed overtaking, instantly pinning you back into your seat without any hesitation. Even with two friends in the back on a long trip, it doesn't feel cramped. But in urban areas, you have to be careful when parking because of the wide body. As for fuel consumption, it's 11.8L/100km, slightly better than I expected, though refueling with 98-octane gasoline is still a bit painful financially. However, driving it around gets so many admiring glances—it’s worth it!

This Bentley convertible is truly my favorite! The exterior is flawless, and driving it on the road grabs everyone's attention. The interior exudes luxury, and every time I sit inside, it's an absolute pleasure. The power is more than sufficient—stepping on the gas for an overtake delivers a strong sense of acceleration, giving me lots of confidence. However, the fuel consumption is indeed high, reaching 13.6L/100km in the city, and I do occasionally feel distressed about the fuel costs. But overall, the driving pleasure and luxurious experience it provides are absolutely worth the price!
