BMW iX M60 2022 Review

In the electric vehicle market, the competition among mid-to-large luxury pure electric SUVs has always revolved around three core aspects: "performance," "luxury feel," and "tech configuration." BMW's iX M60, positioned as the brand's flagship electric vehicle, has been viewed as an all-rounder combining the performance DNA of the M series with luxurious comfort since its debut. This time, we got a test car with the core objective to verify whether it meets expectations in terms of actual performance, range, and luxurious experience under daily road conditions in Malaysia, and whether it can provide users seeking a high-end pure electric experience with a suitable choice.
The exterior design of the iX M60 continues the family language of the iX series but emphasizes a sportier feel in the details. The front adopts a closed double kidney grille, complemented by M-series exclusive blue brake calipers and 22-inch aerodynamic wheels, giving it a high level of recognition. The body lines are kept simple and smooth, the doors feature concealed handles, and the L-shaped LED taillights at the rear integrate seamlessly with the body, offering a sharp visual effect when lit. As for the lighting system, the adaptive LED headlights support automatic high beam switching, adjusting the illumination range based on road conditions during nighttime driving, making them quite practical.
Inside the vehicle, the sense of luxury and technology is prominent. The center console employs a floating dual-screen design, combining a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch central touchscreen, which deliver clear display and smooth operation. Most interior areas are covered with Merino leather, paired with aluminum trim, and the materials and craftsmanship meet the standards of a luxury vehicle. The seats support electric adjustment, heating, and ventilation functions, and the front seats also feature a massage function, ensuring comfort during long rides. Regarding rear space, the vehicle has a wheelbase of 3000mm, providing two fist-widths of legroom and one fist of headroom for a 180cm tall passenger sitting in the back, offering spaciousness. As for storage space, the front central armrest box has a sizeable capacity, the door storage slots can hold water bottles and small items, and the trunk has a standard capacity of 500L, which can be expanded to 1750L by folding down the rear seats, meeting daily family storage needs.
In terms of performance, the iX M60 is equipped with front and rear dual motors, delivering a maximum system power of 455kW and a maximum torque of 1100N·m. The official 0-100km/h acceleration time is 3.8 seconds. During actual driving, when switched to sport mode, the start and acceleration response is very fast, with a noticeable push-back sensation when the accelerator is pressed hard, making overtaking almost instantaneous. In standard mode, the power output is more linear, suitable for daily urban commuting. The chassis features adaptive air suspension combined with xDrive all-wheel drive, providing excellent control of body roll when cornering and strong stability at high speeds. On bumpy roads, the suspension effectively filters out vibrations, making the ride smooth with almost no noticeable jolts for passengers inside the car. The steering wheel offers precise handling with slight play, and the feel while driving is appropriate for a sports vehicle.
As for range and charging, the battery has a capacity of 111.5kWh, with an official CLTC range of 630km. In our mixed conditions test, with city driving accounting for 60% and highways for 40%, the air conditioning and music were kept on throughout, and the final range achievement ratio was about 85%, resulting in an actual range of approximately 535km, which meets expectations. Regarding energy consumption, the overall consumption is about 21kWh/100km, with highway consumption slightly higher at about 25kWh/100km. In terms of charging speed, it supports a maximum of 195kW DC fast charging, taking only about 40 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%, making daily energy replenishment relatively convenient.
In terms of ride comfort, the iX M60 performs well in noise control. Wind noise and tire noise are not significant at high speeds, providing a high level of cabin quietness. The energy recovery system is adjustable in three levels, and at the highest level, releasing the accelerator results in a noticeable deceleration, making it suitable for one-pedal mode driving. The lowest level offers a gliding experience similar to that of a gasoline car, catering to different driving habits. The seats provide excellent support and cushioning, ensuring that long drives are not fatiguing.
In summary, the core strengths of the iX M60 lie in its balanced performance, luxury, and spaciousness. Compared to its peer, the Tesla Model X Plaid, it offers more premium configurations and higher-quality interior materials. When lined up against the Mercedes EQE SUV, it boasts stronger power performance and faster acceleration. Overall, this car is suitable for users who value a high-end pure electric experience and seek performance and luxury. Whether for daily commuting or long-distance travel, it meets the requirements. If you're looking for a pure electric SUV that combines performance, luxury, and practicality, the iX M60 is worth considering.
