BMW X7 Review

In the luxury full-size SUV market, consumers not only pursue core needs such as space and comfort, but also have higher expectations for power performance and intelligent configurations. The 2023 BMW X7 xDrive40i M Sport, as a facelift model in this segment, not only adds the M Sport package to enhance visual impact but also upgrades its powertrain and smart technology configurations. This test drive will focus on evaluating whether its dynamic performance meets the positioning of a luxury SUV and whether the new configurations enhance daily usability.
From the exterior, the M Sport package on the 2023 X7 brings a more aggressive design. The front features a larger double-kidney grille complemented by blacked-out LED headlights, while the daytime running lights have a vertical layout, making it highly recognizable. The side profile of the vehicle retains the stable presence of a full-size SUV, with 22-inch dual-tone multi-spoke wheels (front 275/40 R22, rear 315/35 R22) enhancing its sporty feel. The dimensions remain consistent with the previous model (length 5151mm, width 2000mm, height 1805mm, wheelbase 3105mm). At the rear, the new highlight is the through-type LED taillights, and the dual exhaust layout on either side emphasizes the M Sport's sporty orientation.
Inside the cabin, the most noticeable change is the 14.9-inch curved display screen, replacing the split-screen design of the previous model with significantly improved interface smoothness, supporting both touch and iDrive knob operations. The interior materials continue the luxurious positioning, with extensive use of soft leather and metal trims. The multifunctional steering wheel is equipped with paddle shifters and supports electric adjustment and memory functions. In terms of configuration, the front seats are equipped with heating and ventilation functions, along with electric adjustment and memory support. The second-row seats feature an electrically adjustable 40:20:40 split design, while the third row has a 50:50 split-folding arrangement. Space-wise, the second-row passengers enjoy ample legroom, and while the third row is designed for emergency use, adults can use it for short trips without feeling significant discomfort. The trunk offers a standard capacity of 326L, which can be expanded by folding down the third row, meeting the needs of family trips. Additionally, a panoramic sunroof, Harman Kardon 16-speaker sound system, and three-zone automatic air conditioning are all standard features.
In terms of power, the 2023 X7 is equipped with a 3.0T inline-six-cylinder MHEV mild hybrid system, delivering a maximum output of 381PS and peak torque of 520N·m, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and the xDrive all-wheel-drive system. The official 0-100km/h acceleration is 5.8 seconds, an improvement of 0.3 seconds over the 2021 model. During actual driving, the inclusion of the mild hybrid system makes throttle response more immediate during take-off, with ample torque provided in the low rpm range. Switching to sport mode significantly enhances throttle sensitivity, and stepping on the accelerator firmly while overtaking provides a continuous sense of thrust. The transmission's shift logic is clear, and its smoothness is excellent. From a handling perspective, the steering is precise with minimal play. Despite the large body size, body roll is well-controlled in corners, and the combination of double-wishbone front suspension and multi-link rear suspension effectively filters road vibrations, ensuring interior comfort even on unpaved roads. As for fuel consumption, the official combined fuel consumption is 9.5L/100km, and during the test drive, the urban road conditions averaged about 11L/100km, with highway conditions around 8L/100km, which met expectations.
In terms of comfort, the vehicle's noise control is well-executed, with good suppression of wind and tire noise during high-speed driving; the seat offers moderate wrapping and support, making long drives less tiring. Regarding safety features, it comes standard with 6 airbags, ACC adaptive cruise control, 360-degree panoramic imaging, active braking, lane departure warning, etc., which are sufficient for daily usage scenarios.
Overall, the core advantages of the 2023 BMW X7 xDrive40i M Sport lie in the performance improvement brought by the upgraded powertrain, the enhanced sense of technology in the intelligent cockpit, and the sporty appearance provided by the M Sport package. Compared to the 2021 model, although the price has increased by approximately RM9,000 (from RM708,800 to RM718,000), the added features such as the mild hybrid system, curved display, and electric second-row seats fully justify the price difference. This car is suitable for families or business users who value luxury, require seven-seat space, and have certain demands for performance. If you are looking for a full-size luxury SUV that balances comfort and sportiness, the 2023 X7 xDrive40i M Sport will be a great choice.
