Honda Accord 2020 Review

Nowadays, competition in Malaysia's D-Segment sedan market is becoming increasingly fierce. Consumers want enough space to meet family needs, while also expecting performance and features that keep up with mainstream trends. The 2020 Honda Accord 1.5TC is a model designed to meet these demands. It is equipped with a 1.5T turbocharged engine and comes with a host of intelligent features, all while maintaining the practicality that the Accord series is known for. This time, through a static experience and dynamic test drive, let’s see if it can hold its ground in the same segment.
At first glance, the 2020 Accord 1.5TC has an overall style that leans towards being steady yet youthful. The front features a large chrome-plated grille, complemented by LED headlights and daytime running lights, making it highly recognizable. The side profile showcases smooth lines, with a waistline extending from the front fenders to the rear, giving the side a more elongated look. At the rear, the LED taillights adopt a blacked-out treatment, and the slightly upturned spoiler tail design adds a touch of sportiness. The lighting system of the entire car uses LED materials, with automatic headlights and front fog lights as standard, making daily use quite convenient.
Stepping inside, the interior is primarily black, accented with silver trim, creating a minimalist yet quality-focused style. The center console is well-organized, with an 8-inch touchscreen located at the center. Its operation is fairly smooth and supports the Sound Plus feature. Along with 10 speakers, the sound quality meets segment expectations. The driver’s seat features an 8-way electric adjustment, while the passenger seat has a 4-way electric adjustment. The seat cushioning offers moderate support, ensuring comfort even during long drives. In terms of features, keyless entry and start, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear air vents, and 220V/230V power outlets are all standard, greatly enhancing everyday convenience.
Spaciousness has always been a traditional advantage of the Accord. The car’s dimensions are 4901mm in length, 1862mm in width, and 1450mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2830mm. The legroom in the rear is particularly generous; a 180cm passenger can sit in the back with about two fists of space between their knees and the front seat. The trunk offers a volume of 570 liters, and the rear seats can be folded down, making storage flexible to meet the needs of family road trips.
In terms of performance, the 1.5T turbocharged engine delivers a maximum power of 201PS and a peak torque that is continuously available between 1600-5000 rpm, paired with a CVT transmission. During startup, the power response is lively with no noticeable delay when pressing the accelerator. Mid-to-high-speed acceleration is smooth, and when overtaking, stepping deeply on the accelerator prompts the transmission to swiftly adjust the gear ratio, offering cohesive power output. The official 0-100km/h acceleration is 9 seconds, making it competent for daily city commuting and highway cruising. The steering is light and offers good accuracy, making it easy even for beginners to handle. The chassis features a front MacPherson and rear multi-link independent suspension (specifically noted in the Premium version). It performs well in absorbing bumps; when driving over speed bumps or uneven roads, vibrations are not overly harsh. At high speeds, the vehicle maintains great stability, and body roll during cornering is controlled within a reasonable range.
In terms of fuel efficiency, the official combined fuel consumption is 10.5L/100km. During our test drive, which primarily involved city roads with occasional highway driving, the actual fuel consumption averaged around 11-12L/100km, a rather average performance. The braking system uses ventilated disc brakes at both the front and rear, providing timely braking response and a linear pedal feel, which adds a sense of safety in daily driving. As for noise control, the cabin remains quiet at low speeds. At high speeds, there’s slight wind and tire noise intrusion, but it does not affect normal conversations.
In summary, the core advantages of the 2020 Honda Accord 1.5TC lie in its spacious interior, rich features, and smooth power performance. Compared to competitors in the same class, such as the Toyota Camry 2.5G, the Accord offers better power specifications, more comprehensive features, and a similar price, making its value for money stand out. It is suitable for families who value practicality, smooth power delivery, and feature richness, or for consumers who need to balance both business and family use. Overall, this is a well-balanced D-segment sedan that can meet the daily needs of most users.
