In recent years, Malaysia's D-Segment MPV market has become increasingly competitive, with family users demanding higher standards for space practicality, rich configurations, and driving comfort. As one of the mainstream choices in this market segment, the 2022 Honda Odyssey 2.4 EXV has attracted considerable attention with its upgraded intelligent features, flexible 7-seat layout, and mature powertrain system. The purpose of this test drive is to verify this car's actual performance in daily family use scenarios and see if it can meet consumers' expectations for an "all-around family MPV."

From the exterior, the 2022 Odyssey continues Honda's classic MPV design, with overall lines leaning towards a stable yet refined appearance. The front features a large chrome grille paired with sharp LED headlamps, and the daytime running lights are integrated with the grille trim, enhancing its visual width and recognizability. The side profile is smooth, with 17-inch wheels featuring a simple design, while the chrome trim at the bottom of the doors adds a touch of sophistication. At the rear, the LED tail lamps echo the design of the front, and the chrome trim below the tailgate along with the hidden exhaust layout creates a cleaner look. The overall design avoids excessive flamboyance, aligning well with the positioning of a family MPV.

Inside, the interior style of the 2022 Odyssey leans towards practicality, with a clear layout of the dashboard and materials predominantly wrapped in soft-touch plastics and leather, providing a desirable sense of quality. The center console is equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen, offering decent responsiveness and supporting basic multimedia and Bluetooth connectivity functions. The instrument panel combines digital and analog designs, with a digital display on the left showing fuel consumption, range, and other information, while the right side features a traditional analog gauge with clear readings. The front seats support electric adjustment, offering moderate wrapping and support to prevent fatigue during long drives. The second row is the highlight of the car, equipped with manually adjustable Ottoman captain seats that support reclining and sliding functions. The ample legroom, combined with the footrests, provides a seating experience close to first class. The third-row seats support a 40:20:40 split, which, when folded down, expands the trunk space. When used in daily scenarios, it can comfortably accommodate three adults. In terms of storage, the door pockets, center armrest box, and second-row cup holders are all thoughtfully designed to meet the storage needs of family trips.

In terms of space performance, the 2022 Odyssey's dimensions are 4830mm×1800mm×1695mm, with a wheelbase of 2900mm. While the overall length is 10mm shorter than the 2018 model, the wheelbase remains the same, resulting in no significant changes to the interior space. The front row offers headroom of about one fist and two fingers, while rear passengers enjoy more than two fists of legroom when the front seats are adjusted to a suitable position. The trunk has moderate capacity in its default state, which can accommodate several carry-on suitcases, and folding down the third row significantly increases the space, making it suitable for loading large items. In terms of configurations, features like dual-zone automatic climate control, independent rear air conditioning, a 360-degree panoramic camera, and automatic parking assist are all standard. The inclusion of a 220V power outlet also makes it convenient for rear passengers to use electronic devices.

In terms of power, the 2022 Odyssey is equipped with a 2.4L naturally aspirated engine, with a maximum power of 175PS/6200rpm and a maximum torque of 225N·m/4000rpm, paired with a CVT gearbox. During actual driving, the initial acceleration feels smooth, and the acceleration process is linear, with no noticeable jerking. During mid-to-high-speed overtaking, the engine speed increases quickly when the accelerator is pressed hard, providing timely power response, fully meeting daily family needs. The driving modes include normal and eco options, with the eco mode offering smoother power output, making it suitable for highway cruising. The steering wheel has moderate weight, and the directional precision is average, but as an MPV, this setup leans more toward comfort. The chassis adopts a front MacPherson independent suspension, tuned for comfort. When passing speed bumps or bumpy roads, the suspension effectively filters out vibrations, making it so that passengers inside the vehicle do not feel any significant jolts. While cornering, the body roll is controlled within a reasonable range, avoiding a "floating" sensation.

Regarding fuel consumption, the official combined fuel consumption is 8.1L/100km. During actual test drives, city road fuel consumption is about 9.5L/100km, while highway fuel consumption is around 7.5L/100km, an overall performance that aligns with the level of a 2.4L MPV. For braking performance, the brake pedal travel feels moderate, with linear braking force output. During emergency braking, the body remains stable. In terms of noise control, some wind and tire noise is present during high-speed driving but stays within an acceptable range and does not affect passengers' conversations. Additionally, the 2022 Odyssey comes standard with safety features such as LaneWatch lane change assist, lane departure warning, and active braking, enhancing driving safety.

In summary, the core advantages of the 2022 Honda Odyssey 2.4 EXV lie in its flexible 7-seater space, comfortable second-row seats, and comprehensive safety features. Compared with vehicles in the same segment, its second-row seating experience and spatial practicality are outstanding. Although its power parameters are not significantly competitive, the mature powertrain offers high reliability. This vehicle is suitable for users who prioritize family travel comfort and need 7-seater configurations, especially families with frequent group travel needs. If you are looking for a family MPV with flexible space, practical configurations, and stable driving qualities, the 2022 Odyssey is a worthy choice to consider.

Last week, carrying the whole family uphill, just a light tap on the accelerator and it went up. The power of this V6 was truly worth the wait!

The interior of this old Odyssey is truly amazing! Sitting inside is even more comfortable than my home sofa, but the exterior looks so old as if it just drove out of a museum 😂

The 2011 Odyssey has been with me for many years. Although it's an old car, it still drives very steadily. I rely on it for school runs and family outings on weekends. The third row can seat three adults comfortably without feeling crowded, and the air conditioning cools down super fast, which is very practical in Malaysia's weather. The only downside is that the fuel consumption is slightly high, but for such a big car, it's acceptable.

This 2008 Odyssey is still reliable after all these years! I give full marks for safety—it feels solid when overtaking on the highway and is reassuring even when fully loaded with family. The interior maintenance is decent, though the plastic parts feel a bit dated. The most satisfying part is taking the whole family out on weekends; the third row can comfortably seat two adults without feeling cramped. The air conditioning is cold enough, so even in traffic jams, there’s no fear of the heat.
