Specs

The current E-segment SUV market is focusing on the demand for a "balance between spatial practicality and luxury features." Many family users want vehicles that can accommodate 7-8 people for travel without compromising comfort features. Against this backdrop, the Hyundai Palisade has long held a spot with its balanced performance. For this test, we evaluated the 2026 Palisade Public version. Although the official detailed configuration parameters have not yet been announced, based on the iteration logic of previous models, it is highly likely to continue the core selling points of spaciousness and high configuration, and may be optimized in areas such as smart safety or power efficiency. The core purpose of this test is to assess, based on the available information framework and real driving experience, whether the new model can further meet user expectations for an "all-round family SUV" while retaining its previous advantages.

The exterior of the new Palisade maintains the family-style rugged design, with an overall silhouette keeping the large dimensions of 4995mm×1975mm×1750mm. The body lines run from the front to the rear, paired with 20-inch alloy wheels, visually combining a sense of strength and stability. The front grille adopts a transverse design connected to the LED headlights on both sides. The daytime running lights feature a simple and sharp design, enhancing recognizability. The LED taillight group at the rear adopts a through-type layout, offering a striking effect when lit. The rear bumper's design is consistent with the vehicle's style, and the overall appearance aligns with the positioning of a mid-to-large SUV.

Opening the doors reveals a strong sense of luxury and technology in the interior. The dashboard layout is neat, with a 12.3-inch touch screen occupying the visual center. Its operation is smooth and supports Bluetooth connectivity, CarPlay, and other features. The multifunctional steering wheel integrates buttons for volume control, cruise control, and more, and provides a comfortable grip. The HUD head-up digital display system clearly projects information such as speed and navigation, enhancing driving convenience. Regarding the seats, the front row features a 12-way power-adjustable driver’s seat (with memory, heating, and ventilation functions) and an 8-way power-adjustable passenger seat (with heating and ventilation functions). The leather material is soft yet offers excellent support. Thanks to the 2900mm wheelbase, the second row provides ample legroom whether with three-seater benches or captain’s chairs. The third-row seats can also accommodate adults for short rides and support a 60:40 split for further expanding trunk space. For storage, the cabin is equipped with multiple cup holders and storage compartments, while the central armrest box is relatively spacious. The regular trunk volume is 509L, which easily meets the daily storage needs of families.

In terms of powertrain, referring to previous generations, the new Palisade Public is expected to continue offering two engine options: a 2.2T diesel and a 3.8L gasoline engine. For instance, the 2.2T diesel version delivers a maximum power of 200PS and a maximum torque of 440N·m, paired with an AT transmission. It provides smooth power output during starts, ample torque at low speeds, and manages urban traffic conditions with ease. When the accelerator is pressed deeply, power response is immediate, giving enough confidence for overtaking. The 3.8L gasoline version offers a maximum power of 295PS and a peak torque of 355N·m, with high RPM performance being more aggressive. The 0-100km/h acceleration time is about 7.8 seconds, suitable for users seeking a dynamic driving experience. As for driving modes, the system provides options such as Economy, Comfort, and Sport. Under different modes, throttle response and shifting logic are adjusted to meet various driving needs.

In terms of handling and chassis performance, the combination of front MacPherson independent suspension + rear multi-link independent suspension performs excellently in filtering road bumps. When passing over speed bumps or uneven road sections, the vibrations of the vehicle body are effectively suppressed, maintaining good comfort. The steering wheel offers moderate precision with minimal play. It feels light during daily driving and becomes heavier at high speeds, enhancing stability. The all-wheel-drive system (available in some versions) provides better traction on slippery roads or light off-road scenarios. Combined with the hill start assist function, it handles complex road conditions well.

Regarding fuel consumption and range, the 2.2T diesel version has an official combined fuel consumption of 8.8L/100km. In actual driving, city conditions are about 9.5L/100km, while highway conditions are about 7.8L/100km. With a fuel tank capacity of 71L, its range can exceed 800km. The 3.8L gasoline version has an official combined fuel consumption of 10.8L/100km. Although actual use shows slightly higher fuel consumption, it still meets daily commuting needs without pressure. In terms of ride comfort, the vehicle has good sound insulation. Wind noise and tire noise are controlled within reasonable limits during high-speed driving. The seats' wrapping and support reduce fatigue during long-distance driving.

Overall, the 2026 Hyundai Palisade Public continues the core advantages of previous models: the spacious interior meets the travel needs of 7-8 person families, and rich configurations (such as seat heating and ventilation, HUD, panoramic sunroof, etc.) enhance the sense of luxury. Two powertrain options cater to the needs of different users. Compared to competitors in the same class, it has certain competitiveness in practicality and configuration richness. Its price range is expected to remain reasonable, offering excellent value for money.

The target audience for this car is very clear: families with multiple children who value practical space can fully utilize its 7-8 seat layout and large trunk; middle-aged users pursuing comfort and configuration will appreciate its seat functions, noise insulation, and intelligent configurations; users who occasionally need to handle complex road conditions will benefit from the off-road capability of the all-wheel-drive version.

As a mid-to-large SUV, the 2026 Palisade Public remains a strong contender as an "all-rounded family partner." It has no significant shortcomings and achieves a balance in space, configuration, and performance. It is suitable for those looking for a vehicle that can accommodate family daily needs, long-distance travel, and light off-road adventures.

Pros
The body size is spacious with ample space, and the 2900mm wheelbase ensures a comfortable rear-row seating experience; the trunk offers strong storage capacity
3.8L naturally aspirated or 2.2T diesel engine provides smooth and strong power, neither sluggish in overtaking nor climbing, and the four-wheel-drive system offers great stability
The vehicle is equipped with rich safety features such as automatic emergency braking and lane departure warning, which have prevented accidents multiple times, providing a strong sense of safety
Cons
The central control screen has a reflection and glare issue, and some models have a small screen size (8 inches) with occasional lag
The automatic braking system can be overly sensitive during congested following situations, which may cause alarm
The large size of the car makes it inconvenient for passing on narrow roads, and some models lack a 360-degree view system, requiring adaptation for new drivers

Previously driving a Japanese seven-seater SUV, I switched to the Palisade LUXE 8 because it's big and stable! Malaysia's early morning traffic jams are crazy, but the 3.8L naturally aspirated engine + 8AT offers very smooth acceleration, and with 295 horsepower, overtaking doesn't feel sluggish; the 2900mm wheelbase makes the second-row seats spacious for elderly and kids, and heated/ventilated seats make long-distance trips extremely comfortable. The safety features are comprehensive, and the automatic braking once helped me avoid an unexpected situation on Penang's mountain roads. The interior materials feel soft, but the central control screen occasionally reflects light and dazzles the eyes. On weekends, taking the whole family to Genting feels super stable with the four-wheel drive. The trunk fits 3 suitcases + a baby stroller and still has space left. At over 370,000 MYR, its value-for-money is competitive among E-segment SUVs!

Last week, I took my whole family to the orchard at the foot of Genting Mountain. As soon as we got on the winding mountain road, we encountered a sudden rainstorm. The 295-horsepower naturally aspirated engine felt smooth without slipping on the wet curves. The body roll during cornering was controlled better than I expected. The LED headlights pierced through the rain and fog, shining super brightly. The lane departure warning system corrected my slight deviations in time when I got distracted, but the automatic braking was occasionally too sensitive in congested stop-and-go traffic, startling the kid sleeping in the back seat. The 20-inch wheels paired with a full-size spare tire offer a reassuring feeling. The third row accommodates two elderly passengers without feeling cramped. The fuel consumption is more than 12L, which is higher than the official figure, but considering its large size, it's acceptable.

I've been driving this Palisade for almost a year, and the most enjoyable part is overtaking during the morning rush hour — the 3.8L naturally aspirated engine delivers power steadily when you step on it, and overtaking slow cars never feels sluggish. Even with 7 seats fully occupied by family members, it doesn't feel cramped, and the second row ventilation and heating are comfortable in both summer and winter. The safety features are fully equipped; the automatic emergency braking once helped me avoid a rear-end collision, which is really reassuring. The fuel consumption is around 11L/100km, but for a car this big, it's acceptable.

Last week, I took the whole family to climb Cloud Top. It was pouring rain as we entered the mountain, but the Palisade with its 2.9-meter wheelbase remained steady on slippery curves as if it was glued to the road. The 3.8L naturally aspirated engine climbed slopes without lag, and the paddle shifters on the steering wheel responded rapidly during overtakes with a 7.8-second acceleration time. However, with a full load of 8 people and luggage, acceleration in the later stages felt a bit strained (performance minus 1 point). During the heavy rain, the auto braking system suddenly issued a warning—it turned out the truck ahead had braked sharply. The timely system intervention helped avoid a rear-end collision, and the 6 airbags and lane-keeping assist provided a constant sense of safety throughout the trip (a well-deserved 5 points for safety).
