Lexus LM 2021 Review

In Malaysia's luxury MPV market, the Alphard has long held a benchmark position, but the arrival of the Lexus LM350 4-Seater in 2021 directly entered the high-end business and private travel segments with a purer luxury orientation. The core selling point of this vehicle is not its spatial expandability, but the exclusive experience of transforming the rear seats into a "mobile living room"—replacing the traditional seven-seater layout with a four-seater arrangement, elevating MPV comfort to a new level. The core objective of this test drive was to verify whether its luxury features truly justify the million-level price tag and to assess whether its daily driving performance is balanced.
From the exterior, the LM350 4-Seater continues Lexus's design language but emphasizes a more dignified sense of detail. The front features a large spindle-shaped grille with dense chrome accents inside, paired with sharply-designed LED headlight clusters on both sides, creating a highly recognizable look. The side profile of the vehicle is sleek, with a simple yet powerful waistline extending from the front fender to the rear. The 18-inch multi-spoke wheels are steady in style and complement the vehicle's business-oriented character. At the rear, the car features a full-width LED taillight assembly with the Lexus logo embedded in the center, and chrome accents connecting the dual exhaust outlets below, presenting a symmetrical and elegant design. As for the lighting system, the LED headlights come with automatic on/off and adaptive adjustment functions, while the daytime running lights and taillights feature sophisticated illumination effects, ensuring clear visibility at night.
Opening the door, a sense of luxury fills the cabin. The interior is dominated by black leather and wood grain accents. The dashboard adopts a layered design, with a 12.3-inch touchscreen at the top and some physical buttons retained below for clear operational logic. The steering wheel is wrapped in leather, with well-organized multifunction buttons, and supports electric adjustment. The instrument cluster features a fully digital display, with a simple and easy-to-read interface. In terms of features, the front seats support electric adjustment and heating functions, while the rear seats are the vehicle’s "highlight"—two independent aircraft-style seats that offer multi-directional electric adjustment, extendable leg rests, as well as heating, ventilation, and massage functions. The rear center armrest houses a touch control panel to manage the seats, air conditioning, the 26-inch rear LCD display (standard on the test drive model), and the Mark Levinson audio system. The car boasts 19 speakers with detailed and high-resolution sound performance. Additionally, the rear seats are equipped with independent air conditioning, sunshades, and a sunroof (single sunroof for the front, with independent rear lighting but no rear sunroof), fully meeting the demands of high-end passengers.
In terms of space, the four-seater layout ensures absolute exclusivity for rear passengers. Although the exact wheelbase is not specified, real-world experience shows more than two fists of legroom at the rear, with ample headroom for passengers to fully stretch out. Regarding storage capacity, the front central armrest box is relatively spacious, door-side storage compartments can accommodate water bottles and small items, while the rear central armrest houses cup holders and a storage compartment. The trunk offers adequate standard storage space, capable of holding two 28-inch suitcases without issue, but due to the four-seater design, it lacks the expandability of seven-seater models.
Regarding performance, the LM350 is equipped with a 3.5L naturally aspirated V6 engine (noted as a 4-cylinder in some documentation, but this appears to be a misprint as it should be a 6-cylinder). It delivers a maximum horsepower of 296PS and a peak torque of 361 N·m (not specified in the spec sheet but is a standard parameter for this engine), paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and a front-wheel-drive layout. During actual driving, the power output is smooth during start-up, and throttle response is linear without abrupt jolts. Mid- to high-speed acceleration sees the engine release its peak torque at around 4700 RPM. During overtaking, the transmission downshifts proactively with sufficient power reserves. Three driving modes are available: Eco, Normal, and Sport. In Sport mode, the throttle becomes more responsive, and gear shifts are delayed, delivering a more aggressive performance; however, Normal mode is more than adequate for everyday usage.
The handling and chassis performance are tuned for comfort. The steering wheel is light in effort with minimal play, making daily driving easy; the suspension system adopts a front MacPherson and rear multi-link structure, offering excellent absorption of road bumps. When driving over speed bumps or uneven roads, the vehicle body exhibits minimal movement, and rear-seat passengers barely feel noticeable jolts. When cornering, the body roll is well-contained within the reasonable range of an MPV. The suspension offers moderate support, eliminating any "floating" sensation. In terms of braking, the brake pedal has a moderate travel, and the force output is linear, providing ample confidence for daily driving.
Ride comfort is the core advantage of the LM350. The soundproofing is excellent, keeping wind noise and tire noise at very low levels during highway driving. Engine noise only slightly penetrates the cabin at high revs. Regarding seat comfort, the rear aerospace seats offer exceptional support and cushioning, with multiple massage functionalities available, making long journeys less exhausting. While the front seats are not as luxurious as the rear ones, the electric adjustments and heating functions still meet the driver’s needs. In terms of fuel efficiency, the LM350 consumes approximately 12-14 liters per 100 kilometers in urban environments and about 9-10 liters per 100 kilometers on highways, which is in line with expectations for a 3.5L V6 engine.
In summary, the core advantages of the 2021 Lexus LM350 4-Seater lie in its exclusive rear-seat luxury experience, abundant features, and the reliability of the Lexus brand. Compared to similar models like the Toyota Alphard, its interior materials are more refined, and its rear-seat configurations are more premium. Although priced slightly higher (RM 1,208,000), it offers a greater sense of luxury and exclusivity. This vehicle is better suited for high-end business professionals, corporate executives, or families seeking private and comfortable travel, who do not specifically require the practicality of seven seats, but rather desire a comfortable, quiet, and private space on the move.
In conclusion, the LM350 4-Seater is not an MPV that suits everyone. It has been designed as a "luxury mobile space" catering to specific user needs. If you need a vehicle that can accommodate business receptions while providing a high-quality travel experience for the family and have a sufficient budget, it is undoubtedly a top choice in this niche market.
