The luxury SUV market in Malaysia has always been dominated by the German Big Three. In recent years, consumer demand for a balance of performance, technology features, and brand value has become increasingly clear—they want Porsche's sporty genes without sacrificing the practicality of a family car. The 2023 Cayenne E3, as the core volume model in the lineup, aims to capture the market with its 3.0T turbocharged engine, standard intelligent safety features across the lineup, and flexible space. This time, we got a test drive car to see if its actual performance in daily commuting, weekend family outings, and other scenarios matches its luxury positioning.

From a distance, the 2023 Cayenne E3 retains the family’s signature wide-body stance. Its length of 4918mm coupled with a width of 1983mm neither looks overly bulky nor takes away from the luxurious SUV vibe. The front features sharp matrix LED headlights, and the four-point daytime running lights inside boast high recognition when lit. Two muscular lines on the hood extend from the A-pillar to the front grille, enhancing its sporty feel. The car's side profile is sleek, with a waistline running from the front fender to the taillights, making the side look even more elongated. The 21-inch dual-tone multi-spoke wheels, paired with 285/40 R21 front and 315/35 R21 rear tires, further amplify the visual impact. The design of the rear is relatively simple; the LED strip tail lights echo the front lights, while the twin exhaust configuration at the lower bumper hints at its performance capabilities.

Inside the car, the overall interior style leans towards a minimalist tech aesthetic. The dashboard is wrapped in a large amount of soft-touch materials, and areas within reach are mostly leather or soft-touch plastics, meeting luxury car standards. The 12.6-inch curved digital instrument panel is clear and can switch to different themes based on driving modes. A 12.3-inch central touch screen is positioned at the center of the dashboard with intuitive operation and comprehensive functions such as built-in navigation and multimedia systems. The steering wheel adopts Porsche’s classic three-spoke design, with a moderate size and solid grip. The multifunction buttons on both sides are logically laid out, and the gear shift paddles at the back add driving fun. The seat configuration is a highlight - the front-row 14-way power-adjustable seats come with memory functions, offering excellent support and wraparound feel, ensuring no fatigue even during long drives. The rear seats can be folded down in a 40:20:40 split and can be easily operated via remote release buttons in the trunk. When folded, the trunk capacity can be expanded from 772L to a larger space, meeting the storage needs of family travel.

In terms of space performance, the 2895mm wheelbase ensures ample space for both front and rear passengers. When the front seat is adjusted to a comfortable driving position, there is still one fist and two fingers of headroom. For rear seats, passengers with a height of 175cm have around two fists of legroom and one fist of headroom, ensuring comfort even with three passengers seated. As for storage spaces, the door compartments can fit two bottles of mineral water, and the center armrest box has ample space for small items. The front cup holders come with heating/cooling functions, offering great practicality. The rear also features independent air vents and USB ports, further enhancing passenger comfort.

Powertrain: The 2023 Cayenne E3 is equipped with a 3.0T turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine, delivering a maximum power of 259.6kW (353PS) and a peak torque of 500N·m. It is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system. The official 0-100km/h acceleration time is 5.7 seconds. In actual driving, the power response is quick at the start, and you can feel a noticeable push-back sensation with a light press on the accelerator. Mid-to-high speed acceleration is equally strong, and during highway overtakes, pressing the accelerator deeply causes the transmission to downshift quickly, providing a continuous burst of power for a smooth and effortless overtaking experience. The shifting logic of the transmission is clear, with seamless upshifts and downshifts, and almost no jerking sensation.

Handling performance is a strong suit of Porsche, and the Cayenne E3 is no exception. The steering is precise, with minimal dead zones, accurately reflecting the driver’s input and providing confidence. The suspension system adopts a front MacPherson strut and rear multi-link independent suspension, which is tuned towards sportiness but doesn’t feel too stiff. When driving over bumpy roads, the suspension effectively filters out most vibrations, ensuring that passengers in the cabin don’t feel too much discomfort. During cornering, the vehicle's body roll is well-controlled, and the suspension offers robust support, maintaining stability even through turns at relatively high speeds. The all-wheel-drive system performs excellently on wet and slippery roads, enhancing the vehicle's traction and ensuring safe driving.

In terms of fuel consumption, we covered about 100km each on city roads and highways, with a combined fuel consumption of approximately 11.2L/100km, slightly higher than the official figure of 10.8L/100km. However, considering occasional spirited driving during our test, this fuel consumption is still acceptable. As for noise control, wind and tire noise are well-managed during high-speed driving, not affecting normal conversations inside the cabin. Engine noise is almost imperceptible at low speeds and only becomes audible during hard acceleration. However, even then, the sound is not harsh but adds a sporty feel.

Regarding safety features, the 2023 Cayenne E3 performs very well. It comes with standard safety systems, including ABS, stability control, lane change assist, lane departure warning, and active braking. The 360-degree surround-view camera simplifies parking significantly. The inclusion of seven airbags provides all-round protection for passengers inside the car.

In summary, the 2023 Cayenne E3’s core strength is its balanced performance: it embodies Porsche’s sporty DNA while meeting the practical requirements of a family car. Its standard technology and safety features are competitive within its class. Compared to rivals like the BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE, its handling performance is more outstanding, and its configuration holds its ground. This car is suitable for consumers who value brand appeal and seek to balance driving pleasure with family practicality—whether for daily commuting or weekend family outings, it performs admirably. If you are looking for a luxury mid-to-large SUV, the 2023 Cayenne E3 is worth considering.

Last week, I took my family to the foot of Genting Mountain. On a rainy day, the mountain road was as congested as a parking lot. Suddenly, the car in front braked sharply, and before I could react, the active brake stopped the car with a "thud" - just half a meter away from the car ahead. The child in the back row was still playing on the tablet and didn't even notice. This 3.0T turbo really provides great power when climbing hills, overtaking trucks effortlessly. The 21-inch wheels with wide tires perform very steadily around corners, and my wife said it's much less shaky than the previous SUV. The appearance is indeed eye-catching, even the motorcyclists next to us at the red light gave it a second look; it's worth every penny.

Traffic jams during the morning rush hour? Switch to 'S' mode and overtake a car — a slight turn of the steering wheel and you're off, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds, super exhilarating. The interior feels soft wherever you touch, and with the 14-way adjustable seats, you won't feel any back pain even on long trips. The 360-degree camera system makes parking incredibly convenient, and with the Bose sound system on, even being stuck in traffic becomes an enjoyable experience.

These past two days, driving on the highway in heavy rain, the assisted driving felt as steady as if it were rooted to the ground, giving an overwhelming sense of security!

Previously drove a Japanese SUV, switched to Cayenne E3 mainly for Porsche's premium feel. Interior gets 5 stars, no complaints, the 14-way electric seats with memory function made even an hour-long traffic jam during Kuala Lumpur's morning rush bearable without back pain. Playing local Malaysian songs with the Bose sound system sets a great atmosphere. Safety gets 4 stars because the automatic braking is sometimes overly sensitive when driving at 160 on the highway, which gave me a scare. Took the family to Genting Highlands over the weekend, and the 3.0T turbo engine's power was sufficient, climbing hills effortlessly, and the AWD feels super stable. However, the fuel consumption is a bit high in the city at 10.8L/100km. Filling up with RON 95 fuel always hurts, but overall, it's worth the price!

This Cayenne E3 has been driven for half a year, and the most surprising thing is that the steering wheel is as light as a toy during traffic jams, but it feels solid when overtaking at high speeds. The rear seat is very stable for placing a child safety seat, and the 360-degree camera helps me park in narrow spaces with ease. The only minor regret is that when the air conditioning is at maximum, the Bose audio system needs to be turned up louder to feel powerful enough.
