Suzuki Fronx 2025 Review

Nowadays, Malaysia's B-segment SUV market is becoming increasingly competitive. Consumers not only want economic efficiency for daily commuting but also have higher demands for spatial practicality and smart features. The 2025 Suzuki Fronx Hybrid is designed to meet these needs. As Suzuki's first B-segment SUV equipped with a mild hybrid system, it not only continues the brand's tradition of high cost-effectiveness but also elevates active safety features to the top level in its class. We got a test drive model this time, with the main focus on verifying whether its mild hybrid powertrain is truly fuel-efficient, whether its space is adequate, and whether its smart features are practical.
The Fronx Hybrid parked by the roadside immediately catches the eye. Its overall design adopts a youthful crossover style, with a moderately-sized polygonal chrome grille at the front paired with sharp LED headlights on both sides, offering decent recognizability. The black plastic trim and silver front lip on the lower bumper add a touch of ruggedness. The side profile is sleek, with a waistline extending from the A-pillar to the rear, preventing the side view from looking bulky. The 16-inch alloy wheels have a conventional design, but combined with the 195/60 R16 tires, they align with the family-oriented positioning. The rear design is relatively simple, featuring LED tail lights connected by a chrome trim strip running across the back. When lit up, the effect is crisp, and the black plastic trim on the lower bumper corresponds to the front design.
Opening the door, the interior layout leans towards practicality. The dashboard is covered with soft-touch materials, which feel decent, and the layout of the air-conditioning vents and the central control screen is fairly neat. The 9-inch HD central control screen at the center of the dashboard has clear resolution, a smooth operating experience, and supports CarPlay and Android Auto. The HUD heads-up display is a rare feature in this class, capable of displaying speed, navigation, and other information, enhancing driving convenience. The multi-functional steering wheel is of moderate size, with a comfortable grip. The left-side buttons control media and cruise settings, while the right side handles phone and trip computer functions. For the seats, the driver’s seat supports height adjustments. The seat padding is on the firmer side but provides good support, making long drives less fatiguing. The rear seats can be split-folded in a 60:40 ratio, expanding trunk space, which is sufficient for accommodating larger items in daily use.
The Fronx Hybrid’s dimensions are 3995mm×1765mm×1550mm, with a wheelbase of 2520mm, placing it in the mid-range within the B-segment SUV category. The front-row space performs well; a 175cm tall passenger can adjust the seating position and still have about a fist's amount of headroom left. The rear-row legroom provides about two fists' worth of space, and one fist for headroom, which should suffice for everyday family use. In terms of storage space, the door storage compartments can hold two water bottles, the central armrest box has a moderate depth, and there are two USB ports in the front row. The regular trunk capacity is not very large, but folding down the rear seats expands it to a practical level, adequate for daily grocery shopping or short trips.
For power, the Fronx Hybrid is equipped with a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine supplemented by a mild hybrid system, delivering a maximum horsepower of 101PS and a maximum torque of 135N·m, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. During daily driving, the mild hybrid system mainly assists in starting and accelerating, providing a fairly brisk start and smooth low-speed driving. After accelerating to 60km/h, the power output becomes more moderate. Overtaking requires pressing the accelerator harder; the transmission responds actively with downshifts, though the later-stage acceleration capability is average. The driving modes include Eco, Standard, and Sport. In Eco mode, the throttle response is slower, suitable for city commuting. In Sport mode, the throttle becomes more sensitive, catering to occasional spirited driving.
In terms of handling, the steering wheel has good precision with minimal dead zone, making daily driving quite agile. The chassis adopts a front MacPherson + rear multi-link independent suspension, tuned for comfort. When passing speed bumps or uneven roads, the suspension filters out most of the vibrations, so you won't feel significant jolts. When cornering, the body roll is controlled within a reasonable range, ensuring passenger comfort. The brake pedal offers moderate resistance, providing linear response, which is easy to adapt to in daily driving.
Fuel consumption performance is a highlight of this test. We drove 50km each on urban roads and highways. On urban roads with an average speed of 30km/h, the fuel consumption was approximately 5.8L/100km. On highways with an average speed of 90km/h, the fuel consumption was about 4.5L/100km. The combined fuel consumption is 5.1L/100km, which is about 1L/100km less than similar displacement traditional gasoline vehicles. The mild hybrid system plays a significant role in achieving this efficiency.
In terms of intelligent safety features, the Fronx Hybrid performed beyond expectations. The ACC adaptive cruise control is convenient for use on highways, automatically following other cars and reducing driver fatigue. The 360-degree panoramic camera provides clear images, allowing drivers to see the surroundings while reversing, making parking easy even for beginners. The active braking system responded promptly during tests, automatically reducing speed when encountering obstacles ahead, enhancing safety. Regarding noise control, the cabin remains relatively quiet at low speeds. At high speeds, wind and tire noise slightly increase but remain within acceptable levels.
In summary, the core advantage of the 2025 Suzuki Fronx Hybrid lies in its balance—its mild hybrid system delivers impressive fuel efficiency, and the abundance of intelligent safety features (especially HUD and 360-degree cameras) boosts competitiveness. Its space and comfort can also meet family demands. Compared to peers like the Honda HR-V or Toyota Corolla Cross, the Fronx Hybrid is priced lower and offers more features, making it highly cost-effective.
This vehicle is most suitable for family users who value practicality and cost-effectiveness, especially those who commute daily and go on short trips frequently. It does not have any significant shortcomings, performing evenly in all aspects, making it a pragmatic choice for a family SUV. If you are looking for a fuel-efficient, well-equipped, and spacious B-segment SUV, the Fronx Hybrid is worth considering.
