Suzuki Fronx Review

In Malaysia's B-Segment SUV market, although the selection of hybrid models is increasing, options that truly balance configuration, space, and cost-effectiveness are still scarce. The 2025 Suzuki Fronx Hybrid enters this segment as a new contender, boasting highlights such as "standard L2-level assisted driving across all variants" and "360-degree panoramic imaging". Can it disrupt the existing market landscape? In this test drive, we’ll comprehensively evaluate it from static design to dynamic performance to verify whether it meets the "balance and practicality" needs of family users.
At first glance, the Fronx Hybrid features an overall design that leans towards youthfulness and energy. The front end is equipped with a large black grille matched with a through-style chrome trim, while the LED headlight clusters on both sides connect with the grille, extending the visual width. The vehicle’s side profile is smooth; although the 16-inch wheels aren't particularly large, they coordinate well with the car’s proportions of 3995mm length and 2520mm wheelbase. The 170mm ground clearance ensures the SUV's off-road capability. The rear adopts a layered design, with blackened details in the LED taillight clusters, and the silver skid plate on the rear bumper adds a touch of ruggedness. Overall, its uniqueness stands out among others in the same segment.
Stepping inside, the interior style prioritizes practicality. The central control panel is covered with soft materials, and silver trim accents enhance its texture. A 9-inch HD central touchscreen is centrally positioned, offering smooth operation and smartphone connectivity support. Features such as head-up display (HUD) and keyless entry are all included. As for details, the front seats support height adjustment, and the rear seats feature a 60:40 split design. Folding them expands the trunk space, catering to everyday cargo needs. Notably, both the front and rear rows are equipped with air vents, further improving passenger comfort.
In terms of space, the 2520mm wheelbase belongs to the mainstream level within the B-Segment category. A passenger standing 175cm tall sitting in the front row has a headroom of a fist and two fingers. Keeping the driver’s seat position unchanged, the rear legroom remains one fist, with headroom of one fist. This comfortably meets the needs of everyday family travel. The storage space design is practical, with spacious cup holders in the front row and a sizeable central armrest box. The back of the rear seats features storage pockets, while the trunk offers sufficient capacity for two 20-inch suitcases. Folding the rear seats allows for larger items, such as a baby stroller.
In terms of power, the Fronx Hybrid is equipped with a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine combined with an electric motor to form a hybrid system. The engine delivers a maximum power output of 74kW (101PS) and a maximum torque of 135N·m, paired with a 6AT gearbox. During daily driving, the electric motor provides notable assistance during start-ups, and the power responds swiftly. When accelerating beyond 60km/h, the engine engages seamlessly. For overtaking, a firm press on the accelerator prompts the transmission to shift actively. Overall, the power output is sufficient for urban commuting. Additionally, the vehicle offers multiple driving modes, with clear differences in dynamics when switching modes, allowing the driver to adapt to various road conditions.
The handling and chassis performance are beyond expectations. The front MacPherson and rear multi-link independent suspension effectively absorb shocks when driving over speed bumps or bumpy roads, keeping the car stable. When cornering at high speeds, the body roll is well-controlled, and the steering wheel provides precise control with minimal dead zones, instilling confidence in the driver. In terms of braking, the combination of front ventilated disc brakes and rear ventilated disc brakes delivers linear feedback on the brake pedal. The braking distance meets the standards of the same segment, providing a strong sense of safety during daily driving.
In the fuel consumption test, we drove 50km in congested urban areas and 50km on highways. The combined fuel consumption was approximately 4.8L/100km, which performs better than similar gasoline models. The hybrid system's engine start-stop technology and energy recovery function further enhance fuel economy, making it suitable for families who prioritize vehicle cost efficiency.
In terms of driving comfort, cabin noise control is well executed. Wind and tire noise are not noticeable when driving at high speed; the seat cushioning is moderately soft and firm, making long rides less tiring. Features like rain-sensing wipers and automatic air conditioning enhance daily usability. Overall, its performance meets the comfort needs of family vehicles.
Safety features are a highlight of the Fronx Hybrid. The entire lineup comes standard with 6 airbags, an L2-level driver assistance system (including ACC adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, etc.), a 360-degree panoramic view camera, and an automatic parking system, which reduces parking difficulty. These features are considered leading in the segment and provide comprehensive protection for users.
Overall, the main advantages of the 2025 Suzuki Fronx Hybrid are its "balanced configuration" and "cost-effectiveness." Compared to competitors in the same segment, its standard L2-level driver assistance and 360-degree panoramic view camera at a price range of 147,800 MYR offer strong competitiveness. Its spaciousness meets family needs, and the hybrid system balances power and fuel efficiency, making it suitable for families who value practicality and safety, especially those needing a vehicle for daily commuting and weekend outings.
If you're looking for a B-Segment SUV with rich features, practical space, and economic fuel consumption, the 2025 Suzuki Fronx Hybrid is worth considering. It may not be the most aggressive choice, but it is definitely a "balanced and practical" representative in its class, capable of meeting the core needs of most family users.
