In Malaysia's B-Segment SUV market, although the selection of hybrid models is increasing, options that truly balance configuration, space, and cost-effectiveness are still scarce. The 2025 Suzuki Fronx Hybrid enters this segment as a new contender, boasting highlights such as "standard L2-level assisted driving across all variants" and "360-degree panoramic imaging". Can it disrupt the existing market landscape? In this test drive, we’ll comprehensively evaluate it from static design to dynamic performance to verify whether it meets the "balance and practicality" needs of family users.

At first glance, the Fronx Hybrid features an overall design that leans towards youthfulness and energy. The front end is equipped with a large black grille matched with a through-style chrome trim, while the LED headlight clusters on both sides connect with the grille, extending the visual width. The vehicle’s side profile is smooth; although the 16-inch wheels aren't particularly large, they coordinate well with the car’s proportions of 3995mm length and 2520mm wheelbase. The 170mm ground clearance ensures the SUV's off-road capability. The rear adopts a layered design, with blackened details in the LED taillight clusters, and the silver skid plate on the rear bumper adds a touch of ruggedness. Overall, its uniqueness stands out among others in the same segment.

Stepping inside, the interior style prioritizes practicality. The central control panel is covered with soft materials, and silver trim accents enhance its texture. A 9-inch HD central touchscreen is centrally positioned, offering smooth operation and smartphone connectivity support. Features such as head-up display (HUD) and keyless entry are all included. As for details, the front seats support height adjustment, and the rear seats feature a 60:40 split design. Folding them expands the trunk space, catering to everyday cargo needs. Notably, both the front and rear rows are equipped with air vents, further improving passenger comfort.

In terms of space, the 2520mm wheelbase belongs to the mainstream level within the B-Segment category. A passenger standing 175cm tall sitting in the front row has a headroom of a fist and two fingers. Keeping the driver’s seat position unchanged, the rear legroom remains one fist, with headroom of one fist. This comfortably meets the needs of everyday family travel. The storage space design is practical, with spacious cup holders in the front row and a sizeable central armrest box. The back of the rear seats features storage pockets, while the trunk offers sufficient capacity for two 20-inch suitcases. Folding the rear seats allows for larger items, such as a baby stroller.

In terms of power, the Fronx Hybrid is equipped with a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine combined with an electric motor to form a hybrid system. The engine delivers a maximum power output of 74kW (101PS) and a maximum torque of 135N·m, paired with a 6AT gearbox. During daily driving, the electric motor provides notable assistance during start-ups, and the power responds swiftly. When accelerating beyond 60km/h, the engine engages seamlessly. For overtaking, a firm press on the accelerator prompts the transmission to shift actively. Overall, the power output is sufficient for urban commuting. Additionally, the vehicle offers multiple driving modes, with clear differences in dynamics when switching modes, allowing the driver to adapt to various road conditions.

The handling and chassis performance are beyond expectations. The front MacPherson and rear multi-link independent suspension effectively absorb shocks when driving over speed bumps or bumpy roads, keeping the car stable. When cornering at high speeds, the body roll is well-controlled, and the steering wheel provides precise control with minimal dead zones, instilling confidence in the driver. In terms of braking, the combination of front ventilated disc brakes and rear ventilated disc brakes delivers linear feedback on the brake pedal. The braking distance meets the standards of the same segment, providing a strong sense of safety during daily driving.

In the fuel consumption test, we drove 50km in congested urban areas and 50km on highways. The combined fuel consumption was approximately 4.8L/100km, which performs better than similar gasoline models. The hybrid system's engine start-stop technology and energy recovery function further enhance fuel economy, making it suitable for families who prioritize vehicle cost efficiency.

In terms of driving comfort, cabin noise control is well executed. Wind and tire noise are not noticeable when driving at high speed; the seat cushioning is moderately soft and firm, making long rides less tiring. Features like rain-sensing wipers and automatic air conditioning enhance daily usability. Overall, its performance meets the comfort needs of family vehicles.

Safety features are a highlight of the Fronx Hybrid. The entire lineup comes standard with 6 airbags, an L2-level driver assistance system (including ACC adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, etc.), a 360-degree panoramic view camera, and an automatic parking system, which reduces parking difficulty. These features are considered leading in the segment and provide comprehensive protection for users.

Overall, the main advantages of the 2025 Suzuki Fronx Hybrid are its "balanced configuration" and "cost-effectiveness." Compared to competitors in the same segment, its standard L2-level driver assistance and 360-degree panoramic view camera at a price range of 147,800 MYR offer strong competitiveness. Its spaciousness meets family needs, and the hybrid system balances power and fuel efficiency, making it suitable for families who value practicality and safety, especially those needing a vehicle for daily commuting and weekend outings.

If you're looking for a B-Segment SUV with rich features, practical space, and economic fuel consumption, the 2025 Suzuki Fronx Hybrid is worth considering. It may not be the most aggressive choice, but it is definitely a "balanced and practical" representative in its class, capable of meeting the core needs of most family users.

Pros
The hybrid system is fuel-efficient and smooth, with seamless stop-start during traffic jams, and fuel consumption in urban commutes is as low as 4.2L/100km
Good performance, not sluggish when overtaking or climbing, with strong electric motor assistance, and the 6AT shifts smoothly without jerks
Practical space, rear row can seat three people without feeling cramped, and the folded trunk can accommodate large items such as a baby stroller
Cons
The fuel tank capacity is only 37L, requiring frequent refueling on long trips, and the range is insufficient.
The raised floor in the middle of the rear row is uncomfortable for the middle passenger, affecting their comfort.
The interior has a plastic feel, with some plastic parts reflecting light under the sun, and the texture needs improvement.

Driving the Fronx Hybrid every day for commuting, it's fuel-efficient in hybrid mode during traffic jams and not underpowered when overtaking. The rear seats can fit three buddies without feeling cramped, and the 360-degree camera helps park perfectly in one go. The HUD head-up display makes navigation super convenient, and the safety features are fully loaded. The only downside is the exterior lacks a bit of personality, but overall it's worth the price!

Previously driving a Perodua Myvi, switching to the Fronx Hybrid really feels like an upgrade! The soft-touch interior + 9-inch screen adds a premium feel. During morning rush hour on the LDP highway, the hybrid is smooth and fuel-efficient, and the stop-and-go + ACC follow feature is incredibly convenient during traffic jams. Took the family to Genting Highlands over the weekend; the 1.5 hybrid tackles slopes effortlessly, and the 60:40 foldable rear seats fit both a baby stroller and camping gear. Safety features are packed, with 6 airbags + 360-degree camera, so my wife feels much more confident while reversing. The only small downside is the fuel tank capacity being just 37L, so refueling is more frequent for long-distance trips. But for the price of over 140k, these features in the B-segment are truly worth it. For commuting and family use in Malaysia, this is definitely the right choice!

Previously drove the old Vios model, the power was so sluggish it felt like a "slow boat." After switching to the Fronx Hybrid, it's finally amazing! The 1.5L hybrid's performance during Kuala Lumpur's morning rush hour is impressive—just a light press on the accelerator and it surges forward. The 6AT transmission shifts much smoother than CVTs, and there’s no jerkiness even in traffic jams. Took the family to the foothills of Genting Highlands over the weekend, and the electric motor's assistance during uphill climbs was powerful, without the previous roaring noise. The exterior design is truly eye-catching—LED lights drew a lot of attention at the Penang night market. However, the raised middle section of the rear seat is a bit uncomfortable for feet. The 37L fuel tank is small, but the hybrid is fuel-efficient—can drive for a week in the city on one fill-up. Safety features are abundant; the 360-degree camera system makes parking in the narrow alleys of Petaling Street super convenient. The only disadvantage is that the sunroof shade is a bit thin and doesn’t block the intense midday sun very well. Overall, totally worth the RM140k+ price; it’s perfect for family use and daily commuting!

Previously, I owned the older model Vios, and switching to the Fronx Hybrid was entirely because I was drawn to its hybrid fuel efficiency and features. During Kuala Lumpur's morning rush hour, even after being stuck in traffic for half an hour, the indicated fuel consumption was only 4.8L, and with its small 37L fuel tank, adding RM50 of fuel was enough for a whole week — nearly 30% more fuel-efficient than the Vios! Last week, I took my family to the base of Genting Highlands, and with its 170mm ground clearance, it handled bumpy roads very stably. ACC made following traffic convenient by freeing up my right foot, and the 360-degree camera made parking in Ipoh's old town area stress-free. The interior has plenty of soft-touch materials, but the rear floor hump in the middle is slightly raised, making it a bit cramped for three people. The split LED lights on the exterior are visually striking, but the white paint tends to attract tree sap. Overall, I'd rate it 4 stars for its interior and exterior — very reasonable. Priced at over RM140,000, it offers safety (6 airbags + a full suite of active safety features) and a hybrid system in the B-segment, making it worth it!
