SAIC-GM: Product strength is insufficient, market share continues to shrink!
AshleyAug 13, 2024, 05:44 PM
On August 9, SAIC announced the production and sales express report for July. The data shows that the sales volume of SAIC GM in July has dropped to 15,000 units, a year-on-year decrease of 82.42% and a month-on-month decrease of 42.35%. The cumulative sales volume from January to July this year is 240,579 units, a year-on-year decrease of 55.14%. The production volume in July was 13,661 units, a year-on-year decrease of 84.51%. Judging from the overall data, compared with other car companies under SAIC, SAIC GM has become the company with the largest decline in sales. Looking back at the performance of SAIC GM since the beginning of this year, the highest sales volume was in March, which reached 62,000 units. Since then, the monthly sales volume of SAIC GM has continued to decline, until 15,000 units in July.
The main models under SAIC GM are Buick, Cadillac and Chevrolet. The data shows that the cumulative wholesale sales of Buick, Cadillac and Chevrolet from January to May were 138,000 units, 42,000 units and 20,000 units respectively, a year-on-year decrease of 35.1%, 26.5% and 77.6%. Buick brand contributes nearly 70% of sales, and it can still be the keystone of SAIC GM's place. The presence of Cadillac and Chevrolet is diminishing year by year, and the share in SAIC GM is only 30%.

In addition, the sales performance of the annual strategic models and main selling models of the three brands does not match. At present, the Buick brand is slightly better, Cadillac and Chevrolet are still to be discussed. The top three in terms of Buick's sales were Weilang6, Angkewei, and Verano, with a cumulative wholesale sales from January to May of 32,000 units, 31,000 units, and 21,000 units, respectively. Weilang's year-on-year increase is 146.5%, while Angkewei and Verano are still declining. Cadillac and Chevrolet's main selling model sales are uneven, with a single product accounting for a heavy proportion. From January to May, the cumulative wholesale sales of Cadillac CT5 and Chevrolet Cruze were 28,000 and 9,803 units, respectively, a year-on-year decrease of 15% and 80.2%, accounting for 67.3% and 49.2% of Cadillac and Chevrolet's total sales. Strategic models such as the Cadillac IQ Aosen and Chevrolet Traverse PHEV that were launched at the Beijing Auto Show this year are still waiting for market testing.

It's also worth noting that not long ago, SAIC General Motors underwent a major personnel reshuffle. The former executive vice president of the Pan-Asia Automotive Technology Center, Lu Xiao, replaced Zhuang Jingxiong to serve as the general manager of SAIC General Motors. The former deputy general manager of the Pan-Asia Automotive Technology Center, Wang Conghe, took over the role of executive deputy general manager of the Pan-Asia Automotive Technology Center. The former assistant president of SAIC Group, Cai Bin, rejoined SAIC General Motors to serve as the party secretary of SAIC General Motors. At the same time, the former deputy general manager of SAIC-GM-Wuling, Xue Haitao, replaced Lu Yi to serve as the deputy general manager of the company, responsible for marketing-related work.
