BYD Auto, a subsidiary of Chinese multinational BYD Company, specializes in new energy vehicles (NEVs) such as battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). Founded in 2003, it transitioned exclusively to NEVs in March 2022. Notable models include the BYD F3, F3DM (PHEV), and e6 (BEV). Achieving global recognition, BYD Auto became the top-selling battery electric vehicle manufacturer in Q4 2023, surpassing Tesla, and claimed the title of the best-selling car brand in China since Q1 2023, surpassing Volkswagen. The company's success is attributed to vertical integration within the BYD group, producing components in-house, and specializing in lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries marketed as the Blade battery.

The plant is expected to commence production in 2026. This plant, covering an area of 150 acres (approximately 600,000 square meters), will adopt a completely knock-down assembly mode, with complete kits imported from China for localized production in Malaysia.
