The mid-sized luxury SUV market has always been a battlefield locally. Consumers not only want the luxurious feel of a brand but also expect practicality for daily use and are unwilling to compromise on power performance. The 2020 BMW X3 xDrive30i M Sport is a popular contender in this segment. It not only carries BMW's signature handling DNA but has also undergone targeted optimizations in terms of configuration and space. In this review, we’ll see if it can truly meet the demands of diverse scenarios through a test drive.

From the exterior, the M Sport package of this car gives a very sporty first impression. The front features BMW's iconic kidney-shaped grille, paired with blacked-out elements and an M-specific front bumper, creating a strong visual impact. The side profile of the car is sleek, with a flowing shoulder line that extends from the front fender to the rear, making the side appear longer. The 20-inch alloy wheels further accentuate the sporty feel. The rear design is relatively simple, with L-shaped LED taillights that are highly recognizable when lit at night, and the dual exhaust layout aligns well with the M Sport version's positioning. The overall design strikes a balance between the stability of a luxury SUV and a youthful sporty vibe.

Stepping inside, the interior quality lives up to BMW's luxury reputation. The dashboard is wrapped in soft-touch materials, complemented by metal trims and piano black panels, offering both great tactile and visual appeal. The fully digital instrument cluster and the 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment display are seamlessly integrated for a high-tech ambiance. The touchscreen is responsive and operates smoothly. In terms of features, the front seats support electric adjustment and memory functions, and the rear seats can be split-folded in a 40:20:40 configuration with a remote release function, making it convenient for loading large items in daily use. Tri-zone automatic climate control comes standard, with independent air vents for the rear passengers, catering to different needs. Additionally, practical features like keyless entry, rain-sensing wipers, and power-folding mirrors are all included.

When it comes to space, this model has a wheelbase of 2864mm, providing ample room in the front row. A 180cm tall passenger seated in the driver’s seat will have sufficient headroom and legroom. The rear space is equally impressive, with over two fists of legroom and around one fist of headroom, ensuring that even three adults can sit comfortably without feeling cramped. The trunk offers a standard capacity of 550L, which can be expanded by folding down the rear seats, easily meeting the needs of family outings or transporting large items. Storage spaces, including door pockets, a center console box, and a glove compartment, are practical and provide ample room for daily essentials.

In terms of power, the 2.0T turbocharged engine delivers a maximum output of 252PS, with maximum torque available continuously between 1450-4800rpm, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The power response is quick and eager. The throttle is tuned to be sensitive during startup, delivering satisfying acceleration with a light press, achieving an official 0-100km/h acceleration time of 6.3 seconds. During real-world driving, overtaking and lane changes are effortless. There’s a noticeable difference in performance across the various driving modes. In Sport mode, the transmission delays shifts, and the power delivery becomes more direct, while Comfort mode is more suitable for daily cruising, offering smoother gear shifts. The xDrive all-wheel-drive system provides superior traction on slippery roads or during cornering, instilling confidence in the driver.

Handling and chassis performance are BMW's strengths, and this X3 is no exception. The steering wheel is precise with minimal play and clear directional control, offering a strong sense of handling. The suspension system features a front MacPherson strut and rear multi-link independent suspension, tuned for sportiness while also considering comfort. When driving on bumpy roads, the suspension effectively filters out most vibrations, maintaining a stable body posture without noticeable jolts. During cornering, the body's roll is well-controlled, and with the addition of the all-wheel-drive system, the overall stability is excellent.

In terms of fuel consumption, the official combined fuel consumption is 7.6L/100km. In actual driving, the fuel consumption in urban conditions is around 9-10L/100km, while it can drop below 7L/100km on highways. For a mid-size SUV with a 2.0T engine, this fuel consumption performance is considered average. The braking performance is also commendable, with a linear feel to the brake pedal and adequate braking force. During emergency braking, the vehicle remains stable, providing ample safety assurance.

Regarding driving comfort, the seats offer good support and wrapping, ensuring that even during long drives, fatigue is minimized. Noise isolation inside the cabin is well-done, with minimal wind and tire noise even at high speeds, maintaining a quiet riding environment. Additionally, the start-stop system for the engine operates smoothly without any noticeable abruptness, making it friendly for daily use.

Overall, the 2020 BMW X3 xDrive30i M Sport delivers a well-balanced performance in all aspects. Compared to competitors in the same segment, its handling performance is more outstanding, the configurations are relatively rich, and coupled with BMW's brand influence, it is highly competitive. This vehicle is suitable for consumers who value both driving pleasure and practicality. Whether for daily commuting or family outings, it can meet your needs well. If you're considering a mid-size SUV that balances luxury, sportiness, and practicality, this X3 is worth considering.

Previously driving Japanese SUVs always felt a bit underpowered; switching to this X3 M Sport finally hits the spot! On Malaysia's LDP highway during the morning rush hour, the 252 hp 2.0T responds instantly with power on tap, making overtaking and lane changes much smoother than before. The xDrive all-wheel drive is impressively stable on rainy highways. The safety features are quite complete — the automatic emergency braking once helped me avoid a car cutting in. However, the rear middle platform is a bit high, making it slightly cramped for three people in the back. On weekends driving the family to Genting, the handling on winding roads is precise, the M sport suspension provides firm support without being too harsh over bumps. But after fitting three suitcases in the trunk, fitting in a baby stroller is a bit of a squeeze. The interior materials feel solid, and the 12-speaker sound system is very soothing during long traffic jams. The only minor downside is that the wireless charging is a bit slow.

Previously drove a Japanese SUV, switching to this X3 M Sport proved to be the right choice! During the Kuala Lumpur morning rush hour crawl, the xDrive grip is incredibly stable, the 2.0T low-end torque is ample, making following other vehicles effortless. On weekends driving the winding roads to Genting Highlands, the steering is so precise it feels like an extension of my hands, minimal body roll in corners, much more enjoyable than my friend's Q5L. The M Sport exterior package is eye-catching; every time I park at Jaya One, people always steal a glance. However, the rear middle floor hump is a bit high, so when carrying three friends on long trips, the one in the middle tends to complain. Safety features are fully loaded; last time on the Penang highway, when the car in front braked suddenly, the automatic braking intervened instantly, giving me a scare but saving my bumper. Fuel consumption is about 10L in the city and 7L on the highway, with 252 horsepower, overtaking is thrilling. The 5-year unlimited mileage warranty provides peace of mind for use in Malaysia.

The following is the translation of the Chinese content you provided: Previously drove a Japanese SUV, switched to the X3 M Sport purely for its handling and looks - the blacked-out rims from the M package combined with the body lines make it a head-turner on the streets of Kuala Lumpur, definitely worth a 4-star rating for its exterior. Stuck in Jalan Ampang during morning rush hour, the 2.0T engine delivers strong low-end torque, making it effortless to follow traffic; taking it on Genting's mountain roads on the weekend, the xDrive's grip is impressively stable, and it handles corners way better than my old car. A 4-star rating for performance is fair. The safety features are comprehensive, had an emergency braking situation on the highway once, and the active braking system was a lifesaver, deserving of a solid 4 stars. A minor downside is the raised middle floor in the rear row, which makes it a bit cramped for the middle passenger when seating five people. Overall, for use in Malaysia, whether for urban commutes or weekend getaways, it's very comfortable and worth the price.

Although the Japanese SUV I owned before was worry-free, it always lacked driving passion. I tried the GLC and felt the interior was too outdated, so I finally chose the X3 M Sport. The interior is perfect; the Merino leather seats have incredible support, the central control touchscreen is very responsive, and in Malaysia's constant heat, the tri-zone air conditioning cools the rear seats quickly. Performance is undeniable. In the morning rush hour, switching to Comfort mode provides smooth driving, and on weekends driving along the North-South Highway, switching to Sport mode and stepping on the gas gives an instant push-back feeling. xDrive also feels incredibly stable on the highway in rainy conditions. I’d deduct one point for the exterior because I feel the taillights are not sharp enough, but with the 20-inch wheels paired with the M package, it still gets a lot of attention on the streets of Penang. A minor gripe is that the run-flat tires are a bit noisy at high speeds, but these are small flaws. With the 5-year unlimited mileage warranty, it's very reassuring to run the car in Malaysia. This car really grows on me the more I drive it!

Every morning during rush hour, squeezing through lanes and overtaking is super steady. The 2.0T engine delivers power quickly, and accelerating to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds is no joke. Three buddies sitting in the back seat won't feel cramped, and the trunk can fit camping gear. Just be cautious when looking for parking spots occasionally; scratching the 20-inch wheels on curbs would be heartbreaking. The safety features are comprehensive, making the drive reassuring.
